thank you guys for the support...i have taken a step back for a day or so to heal my sore joints but wednesday i have a guy down the street from me, who has a auto repair business, coming up to the house with his hoist to assist me in finishing this job..

i will get thru this stupid repair. and i would miss not riding with you guys anymore...me or my bronc isnt ready for any graveyards yet...lol...this is just one of the most frustrating repairs i have done on this truck.

if Ford is such an engineering master why didnt they design a 2 pc. oil pan system ??
i mean really !! a thing like an oil pan you're gonna make accessible by lifting the freakin motor ??? idiots.

there you go.. I knew you'd come around...no way a guy that's spent years hunting bigfoot can be put off by an oil pan gasket...

Because it would cost more and leak.

You should see what they do on newer vehicles. To do any internal engine work on a 97+ f150 you have to lift the body.

Ever seen a 6.0 getting heads done?

And it's only getting worse. Blame consumers.

Yeah, nobody cares about servicability or longevity anymore, they just want the cheapest they can get with the most space and gadgets. And with all the new emissions engineers have even more crap to deal with. They don't worry if you can get to anything anymore, just cram it into the least amount of space possible so there's more room for touch screens. If something has to be done at 150/200k who cares, it'll be out of warrenty by then anyway.
Chevy does it too.

You don't wanna know what its like to work on the new crop of FWD crossovers either. Got an oil leak? lift car, drop engine, subframe, and suspension. You'll need an alignment afterwards too.

Check out the timing chain on these things, they're already having problems.

you could take a 1-piece pan gasket and cut it to a 2-piece. then use RTV where you cut it. gotta get creative

my issue is the damn truck is blocked with a 4x4 chunk of wood on driver's side and two 2x4's on the passenger side and the pan ain't no where close to clearing oil pump...forget putting the pick-up tube in it, that just holds it back farther...this is perplexing, and i can usually figure what to do and even make new paths to solutions, but i am pooped...hope the hoist and a fresh set of eyes on it can see this project through...

kingfish, i should be able to get this done but stay by your cell, i forgot you are just down the road a little...i may still need somebody with more bronco experience...

Frank, if you disconnected the exhaust, and pulled the upper intake, you should be able to jack that engine up enough to get the pan down...

post some pics so we can see what you're working with.

last night i noticed what my problem is...and it shows itself in the last pic labeled " view from rear looking forward"...look where the location of the motor mount hump is on the left of pic in relation to the oil pan bolt holes just above....the motor is cocked to one side....s.o.b.....

just waiting on the mechanic and hoist to come over today and bail me out of this one...

So you go from this....

After 2 days of working on the truck and staring at it...then fiddling with it then sitting and staring again, I came to the decision to get rid of it.

Jeremy made a very true statement awhile back...."you have to pay to play"...I have reached a limit where, between what I lack in physical ability and financial drain stops me from being able to keep up anymore. In just a few months I pay my dues at the first of the year for my real estate business to begin and then the money bleeds in a new direction. I aint got enough bandages and first aid cream...something had to give.

That being said, I will be posting it here as "parting out" but I have it right now on cl for $1000 before parting to take as a project truck...

Sorry guys...I had a blast ...
to this....

good stuff

The problem is, the engineers that design these things are told to make it servicable in this fashion. that way its more likely to keep the work done at the dealership. Its what keeps those dealers alive.

wow...what a job...here's what was changed;
new oil pan, new premium fel-pro gasket, new motor mounts, new oil pump, new oil pick-up tube n screen, new pcv valve, new crankcase breather, new plenum gasket, new front driveshaft u-joints, and in a few days some new spark plugs...

my ass is beat...but i will say this, the new motor mounts feel great, truck pulls alot smoother now...so far one test ride / no leaks.

tomorrow i am taking a run for a longer time...ty, everyone for the words of support and pushing me a little there, everyone needs a kick in the butt sometimes...
