More flyin', more stops, more money.

Not sure why everything is on fire in this Africaland.

Morning traffic report shows clear dirt roads.

More fire.

Was hopin' to see some wildlife. Like a giraffe or somethin'.

Got the hookup of some local beer and cokes for 5 cents each.

Looks like fun! But not sure if I'd drink that coke or beerz. I had the stomach cramps w/the squirts for a week after a trip to Africa.

They're probably burning for agricultural fields or clearing brush just like we do over here in the States. Ancient process that's still alive today.

Everything has nearly been ate over there....too many civil wars...too little food.

Some of the crew did, but even the local food at the hotels we stayed at didn't bother me.

Truth on that.

By this part of the mission it just seemed like been goin' forever, and we had offloaded enough cargo for me to set up the ever popular hammock.

Normally sitting behind the copilot or pilot seats on takeoff, we'll watch for birds and such. With this brush runnin' right up to the runway we were ready to call out for lions...

By the next stop, look more fire...

Vast nothingness.

Normally when getting fuel from a pit, a pump truck helps things along and gas goes pretty quick. Then this thing rolled out behind a MF tractor.

No pump, a little sized hose, and a garden sized hose. Didn't even have enough pressure to open the fill valve to more than one tank at a time, and was so slow I wanted to take a nap.

Spray bombed myself with deet to keep the millions of bugs from attacking.

And with that being our last stop, made the long trek home. The jet was a rockstar and not a thing hard broke that I couldn't quick reset or rig. Amazing built Boeing bird fer sure.

Make sure that tank didn't have ACME on it anywhere. Be water they're pouring in.

Would be a bitch if you had to file paperwork for a 'lionstrike' on one of the engines....

Adding to the list of new places I've ever visited was Warsaw Poland and Lithuania a few weeks back.

Always like getting gas on USAF bases since two big honkin' high volume and pressure lines fill with a quickness.

Polish tanker trailer setup. Friendly guy, just slow goin'.

Didn't get to explore Lithuania.

Main TV tower.

Headin' back home through Poland, needed a near full load of 230k lbs of gas. Five trucks and 3 trailers worth through tiny hoses.

And lastly another first for me of seeing the northern lights. Normally don't cross the ocean at this higher latitude up from Iceland to Greenland.

Doesn't anyone check other languages before plastering something on the side of an airliner?

Great trip to the desert with the first time I've stopped in Italy.

Sicily

The most tastiest dessert I've ever had.

For every day of fun, gotta have the days of real work headin' to the sandbox.

Lil touch of angle of the dangle.

Too fast? How about 8 spoilers popping up for some speed brake action.

While we do have very complicated landing gear, they fall by gravity, so I'm always confidant of seeing 5 orange switch to 5 green, down and locked.

Nothin' broken, so time to pump gas at 130 degrees.

On the way home flew over Ciro Egypt, and we think the great pyramids are in the big dark spot.

Takes a lot to surprise me now a days, but did get gas from about the largest tanker truck I've ever seen.

Yeah, but where in Sicily? Or is that under OpSec?

Adrianspeeder,

I'm currently on r&r, but headed back to KAF at the end of the month. I'm a contracted rotorcraft pilot in a 46 (I'm sure you've got an idea of who that is). Be safe wherever you end up, and if you ever see us on the ramp and want to come say hey, let me know and feel free to come by. I'll show you around our 1950's technology haha.

Another trip finds a beautiful Delmarvalous day for flyin'.

The first airfield we stopped at had fire department asking if they could use a few minutes of our time to familiarize themselves with the C-17. Gave a full aircraft tour of opening and all exits, danger areas, crew seating, engine shutdown, battery disconnection, and any other situation I could think of so I don't die in a fire.

They do have some pretty bad ass rigs as well, but didn't have enough time to check out their toys.

Washington Monument down there.

Customer had us take a quick hop up to NYC. Never been there before, so this will be fun.

Now heading into JFK has the fishfinder lit up with all kinds of busy traffic. For sure will be fun now.

Make a hole. Inbound fat, dumb, and happy.

Third biggest airport I've ever seen. Very balanced takeoffs and landings with the same crews on the same routes over and over to be as smooth as can be. Then we show up, need escorted, stopped all kinds of traffic, had our pictures taken a thousand times from paxs, ground crews, and other flight crews on other jets.

Tower came back on and said we were lookin' good.

I think this was the jet that asked us to pause for a picture, and said welcome to New York.

Our captain said to watch out, Red Sox in town for the night. Might have to check that out.

Normally the customer is usually all business with a quickness, but their boss asked if we would like to take pictures with the jet. I think they wanted a set for themselves, but said I was good to take my own and post 'em.

Yankees time.

Great New York breakfast. At NYC prices... 43 bucks!

So one of the most interesting things I've gotten to see in my life is the WTC complex.

Standing at the South Tower pool, I mentioned to my crew that here is the reason we do what we do.

North Tower.

This tree survived the attack and was replanted among the new trees at the memorial. I was really moved by this whole visit, and for sure suggest everyone take the time to see it in person. The sons of bitches that caused all this destruction had the nerve to come into our house, hurt our people, and for what? I really don't know, but I'll be glad to do my part to keep them fighting far away.

Wandered over to Wall Street.

Another job done, and ready to ride home.
