Dual-Action Shifter

Can someone explain to me what a dual-action shifter is?

Tried googling it and couldn't find what it was.

I was googling stuff about the C6 and came across a kit to mount to a C6 and couldn't find any information regarding what was different about it.

Most likely it is able to be put in D still or shift manually. I know kilduff makes a few like this. So that is how they get the dual action.
custom automatic ratchet shifters

Wouldn't that hurt the transmission?

Isn't an automatic transmission supposed to be left in Drive and be good?

They can be modified with a manual valve body which requires them to be shifted manually.

A c6 with the correct valve body will hold up just fine to manually shifting. Mine gets shifted manually more then it does automatically.

Do you have a dual-action shifter? Or do you simply start in first and shift up?

Can you down shift also?

I have a B&M ratchet shifter in one Bronco and a Art Carr (winters) shifter in the other. Both of these have a Broader performance valve body in them. And yes start in first and shift up. Mine will still work in auto also though.
Yes downshift as you please at any time. The Broader valve body will also hold any gear as long as you tell it to, the stock one will not do that, even when shifted manually.

Wow - I've heard of people manually shifting an automatic before, but I didn't know that there was a safe way of going about it.

Thank you all for the lesson and clarification!

Its also fun, somewhat of a 4 speed feel. If your off-road a lot the winters setup is better as its really simple and very robust. The B&M is nice but is prone to getting stuff in it, which can make it be hard to work.

I could see maybe getting it because I prefer manuals - specifically for pulling, hauling, and winter driving.

How much to convert to a dual-action? I have a c6 - which sounds like it's robust, and only 3 gears, so would it even be worth it?

The ones I have shown are.ratchet or consol shifters. A dual action u can pull to the side and shift, or use the button... I have not seen one of those used in offroad application. Cost varies I think around 200 though

Auto Shift Valve Body - Broader Performance
You want that one, I would also suggest calling them and talking to him. He will get you setup. The difference is he sends you the whole valve body and you just swap it. Where as those kits you modify your own valve body.
I like getting the whole valve body as its a faster install and he also goes through and polishes and cleans up the needed surfaces, so they are better then new. I have had both and much prefer the whole valve body over the kits.
