Can't post stuff???

Certain aspects of the site has stopped working for me or is acting weirdly.

1) Replying by clicking on "Post Quick Reply" does nothing. I have to go Advanced and then submit from there.

2) Top black bar menu no longer drops down, offering the forums, new post options, etc.

3) The formatting options in the reply/new post box are now missing. There is nothing but a bare text box to type my post.

Using latest Chrome stable on a laptop

Hi there SuperDuty, sorry to hear of your problems!

First what would "but weirdly" mean? When you successfully posted this thread, what was out of the norm?

Secondly, would you mind telling us what browser and device(desktop, tablet, phone) you're using?

The very first thing I would suggest and the most simple is clearing your browser's cache(saved style files) for this site. While you're on the page that you'd like to make a new topic or post a reply from but can't, hold down the shift key and click the refresh icon at the top of your browser. Once the page reloads, see if it has solved your problem.

The next common solution is clearing the site's cookies to see if that resolves your issue. I can't give you specific instructions without knowing the browser and device you're using but in the event that you're using Chrome:

Click the three dots at the very top right of the browser window

In the dropdown, hover over "More Tools" to open the next dropdown

Click "Clear browsing data"

Check "Cookies and other site and plugin data and click the "Clear private data" button.

What this does is deletes the "memory" of all the sites you visit, requiring you to log in again. It doesn't just affect this site, but every site you visit. I can provide instructions for deleting private data for just this site if you'd rather not get logged out of all the sites you visit if you'd like once I know what browser you're using.

Looking forward to hearing back from you. If for any reason you're unable to respond in the forum, feel free to shoot me an email and I'll play the middle man until we can get you back online.

@fullsize

I've discussed the issue with him over the last couple of days via PM(due to his inability to post in topics) and it seems as if he's viewing certain aspects of the mobile site(no auto dropdown menu, stripped post input box, etc.).

I've noticed that the quick reply button quit working on my Chrome mobile browser around the time that the fonts got updated in the template(about a week or so?). I can not duplicate the stripped text box, however.

We have cleared his cache and cookies, forced a refresh, changed templates and looked for a "desktop view" option in his settings(but it wasn't present, so he's already viewing desktop). Nothing has worked so far.

To summarize, the only thing I can duplicate is the inability to use the quick reply on a mobile device. The rest of the issues he's suffering don't seem to be widespread.

Can you help this gentleman?

might help to know of possibly even change the site skin you're using.
problem sounds similar to some of the site skin issues we had when they were being worked on... although they all seemed to be working fine last time I checked.

He's on the default template although we did try using a different one and refreshing after.

I agree that it sounds like something caused by changes not being adopted but all the things that should have helped that didn't

@SuperDuty6.0 was set to "standard" text editor which explains the missing options when replying. This was changed to enhanced.

As for the other issues:

Which browser / OS / Device is being used?

Which skin is used? Has Enhanced mobile view been tested or is this on the 'desktop' view?

Did you clear cache and cookies as schwim suggested? did it help any?

Any additional information you can provide is helpful.

Thanks,
- JB

JB,

Using a laptop (Windows 10) with Google Chrome.
Skin won't change from FullSizeBronco (FOTY 2016).
Cleared cache with no change.
Today I see one notification, click on it...and "Subscription" page opens?

Wondering if I should uninstall any recent updates that laptop automatically installed?
Cold those be causing my issues?
Don't want to mess the thing up tho...I'm no computer wizard! Lol

Thanks for help, Andy.

Hi there Andy,

OS updates should not be affecting this issue at all. I'd hold off and let them force a template change for your account to see if that fixes you up. Hopefully that will resolve the remaining issues you're experiencing.

so there was a template issue with the site over the weekend. Users could not post, their images were missing, the page was lagging and several functions were not working BUT that was happening only in the newer skin. The classic skin however is did function normally. Now I assume this affected mobile browsers on desktop mode as well.

This however should have been fixed. Let me know. and as always, clear cache and cookies first.

aha... knew that sounded familiar. might try switching skins again. If nothing else, might be a temp fix or at least verify the issue.
cache might still be holding onto the jacked up skin and a reset may resolve it without the cache hassle.

I assume I'm doing this right?

I just emptied cache again (3x)
Signed in.
Went to bottom, left corner of FSB page and see it's still on "---FullSizeBronco.com (FOTY 2016)
I double click on any of the others...and nothing changes...no auto refresh...I assume page would refresh automatically, if I double click on one of the others?
Then go to "Go Advanced" to be able to post this message.

Hi there Andy,

With all the issues you're having right now, I'd probably give the "quick theme change" widget at the bottom a miss, since it uses magic to make the form submit and you're already having problems with that type of thing. I would try to make the change in your User CP.

1) Visit this page in your CP and scroll all the way to the bottom.

2) Under miscellaneous, find the section titled "Forum Skin" and choose one of the other themes that aren't mobile. 2017 is a good place to start.

3) Be sure to click "Save Changes".

Let's see what that does, if anything, to resolve your remaining issues.

Let me know where we stand once you've done that and we'll go from there!

"Miscellaneous" wasn't there...found it in "Settings and Options...then Edit Options"

Changed to "...2017" and no change except skin colors and photo at top of screen.

Hi there Andy,

My next WAG is that you may have somehow disabled your javascript. A lot of your issues are with features that rely on it(liking posts, attachment additions, quick theme changer, quick reply button all depend on it and will act like you're describing when it's disabled).

So, let's find out if it's disabled, either globally or specifically on this site.

First, visit this page and let me know what the site tells you about javascript. It will either tell you it's enabled or disabled: Is Javascript Enabled In Your Browser?

If it's enabled, we need to figure out if you've somehow inadvertently disabled it on this site, or whether an addon or security suite has done it for you.

If it's disabled, let me know and I'll tell you how to re-enable it in Chrome.
