Vacuum line to transfer case?

I searched Google and FSB but didn't see any info. I noticed a "nipple" the kind shaped like a step-down bit, located near the top of my transfer case pointing towards front. A line that looked like vacuum hose about the width of the brake booster line was next to it and I reattached. It was loose so I'll need to clamp it. My question is what is this hose? What is its purpose?

It's probably the vent for the transfer case. (or the transmission)
