1990 Ford Bronco listing...

Hi!

I owned a 1986 Eddie Bauer in High School and college from 1995 to 2001. I regret that I ever got rid of it and dreamed of having my baby back again someday, now that I am a working dad.

In dreaming through the internet, I found this listing. My father has restored my mom's original 1964 GTO over the past ten years so has some experience in the matter. He had concerns that this one lived most of its life near the ocean and had signs of rust on the wheel and bumper. It has also had a recent paint job.

I live about 9 hours away from the listing and would prefer not to buy site unseen. Wondering if it is worth the trip and any questions or thoughts you may have.

Thanks!

Z

That same dealer is advertising this on Craigslist for $6900, just FYI. https://gulfport.craigslist.org/ctd/6135643607.html

Ocean Springs is abou 3 or so hours from here. I saw it when I was looking for mine, but it's out of my price range. If I were closer, I'd check it out for you. Or get my brother in law to. But he works out of state now.

That truck could have 170k or 270k... no way to know since the odometer can roll over. Looks decent from the pics, but theres no substitute for a first hand look.

Thanks for the response. She mentioned that she had that red XLT for $6900 as well that is in the Craiglist post. They also have the blue/beige Eddie Bauer from the link asking $7900.

Seems like the low mileage/low price deals and quality listings are few and far between!

I agree... it is tough to judge as well if it is worth the drive to check it out or not and there are so few on the market.

From Carfax, there was a 13 year period where either 8,000 or 108,000 were driven.

Yo Z,
Check VIN for Model Year & Engine Type (for example; 5.0, 5.8, 4.9 or 351W CID 5.8 4 BBL Carb, etc.) .
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Decoder; for 81-86 & 87-96 Bronco & Ford Trucks
Source: by lmctruck @ Truck Parts and Truck Accessories

Ask for maintenance records.
@dash_cam offers very good advice on having an independent inspection done at sellers location!; seek out an ASE certified shop in area to inspect it for you.
Search ASE @ Shop Locator - ASE
Some results;
ASE Professional Collision Schillinger
1040 Schillinger Road South
Mobile, AL 36695
(251) 639-9545
Professional Collision ? Mobile. AL
Directions (~45.27 miles)
Professional Collision Highway 90
5240 Highway 90 West
Mobile, AL 36619
(251) 666-1956
Professional Collision ? Mobile. AL
Directions (~47.73 miles)
..
As craigslist advises, "Beware wiring (e.g. Western Union), cashier checks, money orders
A summary of questions to ask the seller;
* Do you have the title in hand and is there a lien on the Bronco?
* How do I get the title?
* Has the vehicle been in any accidents?
* Do you have all the maintenance records?
* How much tread is left on the tires?
* Are there any scratches or dents on the vehicle?
* Did this car belong to a smoker?
* Was this car used by pet owners?
* Can I receive close-up pictures of a specific area (miesk5 note, such as on 1/4 panels, tailgate, etc)?
* Are there any document or preparation fees?"

That kinda looks like what my 88 E/B should resemble. I agree with taking it to an independent inspector to check it out. The front bumper looks like it had a brush guard or something bolted onto it. They did a crappy job cleaning it up cause it looks like it's ready to hemorrhage rust! I wonder what the back side of it looks like. My 88 just turned 3,000mi on the way home tonight. I really mean is it turned 203,000mi! How can I be sure? Because it had 80,000mi on it when I got it back in 2004. My interior is almost that nice still. Don't jump on it without some further investigation. Good luck!

For that kind of money I would go over the body work and undercarraige with a fie toothed comb and a large magnet. Mine is an Eddie Bauer in the same color scheme. I have a factory tape stripe that separates the two colors. It also has chrome trim around the wheel wells. Looks like a full body respray, so the question to ask is why? Wrecked, rusted, vandalized? Just seems a little dodgy to me..

If they drove it the same amount of miles annually from 93-06 as they did from 91-93, that would put it at 261,150 miles on 9/18/2006.

Not saying thats the case, but it very well could be. My 85 has 70k on the clock, with the venerable 300 i6, that has .040 oversize pistons. That tells me they either ran the piss out of it before rebuilding, or its been rebuilt twice. With an estimated lifespan of that engine being 300,000 miles or more, you can guess my rig has a ton of miles. Its been repainted and mildly restored in the process. That was 15 years ago with an actual 12,000 miles on it since. Its a great vehicle, but expect things to need replacing: its 30 years old.
