Yeah - where do you get a cheap ram??? I'm going to do this mod with the SAS for safety and strength... And to take stress off of the steering box.

you need a double acting ram for hydro assist. My ram I am using I got from surpluscenter for $50.00.

Just curious if you had a chance to drive this on the street at all. How does it compare to the stock steering (sloppier/tighter, wander/no wander, easier to steer/harder,etc..). Also, where did you get the saginaw filler neck extension and heat shink tubing?

So this still uses the Powesteering fluid not Hydraulic fluid right? That is why you have the extention piece on top of the PS pump for the extra fluid and the fluid level raising and lowering due to the ram.

ps fluid is hydraulic fluid. yes, the extra volume to fill the ram necessitates the filler neck trick or the reservoir to handle the movement of the fluid

take a look at TRUCK my 79 custom. 6" front, 4" rear, 460, 37s, 8 lug conversion. F&R discs. this season, i will have the D60/D60 installed, rear detroit and front ARB with 4.88s and 39.5 IROKs on hummer double bealocks, hydro assist and crossover steering

Has anyone done this setup using the stock PS pump? Or do you need to go to the saginaw style as referenced above out of the Econolines....?

Also, when you got to Hydro Assist... do you run Power Steering fluid or will Type F ATF still work (Which is what I am running now...)

i tried it with the stock pump... didn't work very well, upgraded to the bolt-on sag. pump. also i run the type F fluid in it and it works great.

i see you know how to search.... lol bringin back a old thread like that..

We just got done tapping our box... and it looks exactly like the pictures (Except steel fittings instead of alluminum).... my question is, the fittings only thread in about 3 full threads (As you can see in the previous pictures as well).... is that normal? Has anyone actually done this and ran it? If so, how well does it work? Anyone spit a fitting or anything?
