interesting ...i idnt know ford got rid of the shitty connector on the pump... itd be nice to get ahold of a 96 setup like this one... ive got to reach on top of my tank to unplug mine on the 90...

hmmmmmm... i know where theres a 96 bronco in the jyard... maybe ill go pull the tank from it... prolly worth it... my tank sux...i bought one of those plastic ones from JBG... it doesnt fit... the skid plate isnt even tightened all the way up(its dangling by the 2.5" long bolts..the tank is too obviously) and the top of the tank was hitting the floor... my FP connector is broken i discovered today...causing the random FP shutdowns i was experiencing... turns out the pump was fine... thats okay im gonna replace it anyway and convert the crap NAPA one into a siphon pump

It might be a dumb question, but how did you flush the tank? Did you just slosh some fresh gas in it and dump out all the dirt, WITH the pump out?

hhhm, i just bought a $150 lifetime Bosch pump.......... daym.

i cant get the vent tube off thats dead center in the tank, ive pryed and pulled, shoved the smallest flat head between the rubber and metal lines and i still cant get it too come off..... any suggestions? \

and great writeup btw, i only wish i found it when my pump went dead on the 28th. then i coulda bought a different cheaper fp since im currently jopbless.

went from a 95 Bronco, to a 95 F150, both 5.0, e40d.

I left it connected and disconnected it at the frame.

I drained the gas that remained, left about a 1/2 cup or so and slushed it around and dumped it into a another container. It was rather clean so I left it at that and used fresh gas to refill.

Great and timely writeup, but I have a few quick questions...

I have an old tired 302 with 220k miles on it. I notice that you are using a 255lph pump, I should be ok with at 190lph right?

I cannot find specs on what the stock pump is rated at, does anyone have this info? ---> HUA problems, I now notice that the stock pump is 125lph...

You use a Walbro brand pump, what are your thoughts on Holley, Edlebrock etc? Are there any I should stay away from?

thanks in advance!

My OEM pump was 125LPH, 190LPH is more than enough as is the stock. I got my 255LPH for a really good price and it was a brand that was well known by the mustang guys as being reliable. I'm sure Holley and Edlebrock are fine, I would stay away from no name brands.

Tell the world DC

Every time another newbie asks about plastic tanks, let him have the facts with both barrels !

Nuthin' wrong with a new steelie for under $130.00 what more could you ask for ?

I clean the packing grease off em' and empty a whole spray can of clear urethane onto them, in 6-10 coats.

Keeps the salt and rust away for decades, all for about $5.00 !

Walbro makes a good pump. It's worked fine in my car for over a year (and the car's making 400+ RWHP)

I had the same exact problems with my plastic tank. I bought mine from JC Whitney. It didn't fit right and after fiddling with and unscrewing the upper harness limiting straps until they were maxed out it fit and then while filling the tank I discovered that there was a crack along the side of the tank about half way up. Hell of a thing to discover when you just put close to 15 gallons of gas in your tank and to have it start gushing out instantly. Luckily my garage wasn't far from the gas station so I drove it home spilling gas everywhere. Took it back and siphoned the fuel out, called JC Whitney and they're shipping me a new one free of charge even though they claimed to have never had this complaint before. I think I might sell it though and just buy a new metal one like you had. That or figure out a way to make spacers to make up for the extra height. I guess they had to make the tank larger in order to make up for all of that extra wall thickness, but this is a real headache.
