Even though this is for a 96 with signal mirrors, the install would be the same for all year broncos with this flag style mirror.
The mirror on the drivers door meet an unfortunate fate, finding a replacement proved challenging. My 96 Eddie Bauer Bronco comes with what they call signal light mirrors, a cluster of LEDS behind the mirror form an arrow. What’s interesting is the mirror has a laminated optic over the LEDS so the driver does not see the LEDS when illuminated, but is visible from the side and back of the bronco. I soon found out these were discontinued from ford and no one made an aftermarket replacement with the built in signal light.
It wasn’t so much the coolness of the signal light as it was the uniqueness to my bronco that I wanted to preserve – only 96 Broncos had this option.
After much searching I found a site http://car-part.com/
and after searching for a drivers side mirror with signal it came up with a few sites and on in particular Alpha Automotive, Inc. Reporting they had a new one in stock. I emailed for more information and gentleman named Wade replied back confirming he had what I needed, I called to close the transaction and found out not only did he have one but 38 in stock!
Today my new OEM drivers side mirror showed up.
Lets begin the install.
#25 Torx bit
Large flat tip screwdriver or upholstery tool
Drivers door with the broken mirror, you'll want to start with the window down.
There are a total of 8 screws to remove before the door panel can come off.
There is 1 screw in the arm rest
1 in the upper right hand corner
5 along the bottom
rug covering might be hiding some of them, but they are there so find them and remove them
The last and 8th screw is in the switch pad
You may remove the switch pad all togeather or you can tuck it into the panel as i did.
The vent latch need to be out of the way, open the window only slightly
Using a flat tip screw driver locate the plastic clips holding the panel on.
Pry them free and work your way around the panel till it hangs freely.
After you remove the panel you will need to unhook the light, 1/4 turn and it pops out.
This is what you should be looking at, great time to upgrade the speakers.
Locate the 8mm bolt that supports the mirror
remove the bolt
The mirror wire harness connector is located below the speaker
With a 25 Torx bit remove the 2 torx screws holding the mirror, support the mirror so it doesn't fall out
Slowly pull the mirror and its wire harness out
The new and old mirror
Clean up the surface where the mirror mounts.
Install the new mirror:
Start by feeding the wire harness from the mirror in the hole in the door
Care must be used so the support bracket doesn't pinch the harness
Apply Anti Seize to the new screws that came with the mirror
On the bolt use some sort of Loc Tight, you don't want this to work its way loss or you have to take the panel off again to get at it.
With the harness hooked up its time to test the mirror, this is a view to other drivers
What the driver sees - just a mirror.
Before reinstalling the panel, apply some grease to the window track
Panel install is the reverse
And heres the end result
