By the time you bye all the tools to do the job (press, backlash tool, etc) you could have just drove the axle to some guy and had it done for a case of beer and $100.00

Most of the guys I know here locally will do gears for that price with a smile on their face.
Really?? I need better friends. For a case of beer and $100?? I would pay this anytime. Seems to me that a good shop will cost around $100 per hour and charge you for what, 8 hours or so to do do both axles. 4 Wheel parts charges around $1600 for parts and labor.

Don't expect him to answer.

You must have pulled that quote from about 9 years ago. godless hasn't been on here in about that time. But anyway, you're right a shop will charge around what you say for parts and labor.

ok. Im back with a couple more questions.. I,ve never messed with diffs at all so I don't know a whole lot about them.. I have the 8.8 in the back of 93 bronco and a dana 44 up front(i think). Im looking at gears and Im wondering if i need reverse rotation gears or not? and does the spline count on the axle shafts matter for gears?

Yes, you need the reverse spiral front gear set with a high pinion 44.

With 29" tires on 3.55s to get you to stock on 42's itd take 5.141379310344828s lol. So yeah 5.13s unless you want more power then deeper.

I'm putting on 37" tires and going with 4.56 gears. According to the original post my forward roll will be 25.5" which is the same as stock. So my question is will I need to change the speedo cable gears for the speedo to be accurate after all the swaps are made.
