Oh GAWD that pic up top isn't complete! <<<< FIXED! Thanks!

OK, here she is currently:

Specs:

1979 Bronco
4" suspension lift: Skyjacker front springs, shackle flip rear
3" body lift
1-ton axles - Dana 60 front, Sterling rear
4.10 gears
38.5 x 16 x 16.5 Swamper TSLs on Bart Super Trucker wheels
410 cu in Ford (.040 over 400) fresh rebuild with mild cam and Eddy intake

Truck is a toy. Used for offroading locally on some private land and events around the state. Sometimes even the occasional mud run.

Last year the original blue body finally rusted beyond my abilities to repair it so off with the old body and on with a rust free white tub. I haven't had the chance to take it out to play on the new body yet, so every action video and picture I have is blue!

Here's a slideshow of the trucks progression:

Some older action videos!

So I got her home finally and started to look at what I got.

Somebody was a dead head fan. Stickers across the windshield and on the center caps.

She had some issues for sure.

Notice the orange stuff in the photo? Ever here of the gap filler "Great Stuff", that's what the orange stuff is.

Parking brake was shot.

Had lots of sand and lots of bottle caps in it.

Seat was in good shape

I think you get the point. So what was my plan of attack with this thing. Stay tuned to tomorrow.

So the original lift was 2" blocks and 2" AAL, it didn't take long for the block to get spit out, on the trail of course. The axle wrapped and destroyed the slip yoke.

The trip started out with some great scenery and ended even better!
The axle wrapped about 1/2 up, I had to finish the trip front wheel drive, that was fun

My wife was kind enough to sneak some pics of me getting dirty, what a sweetheart lol

And the final destination, beautiful place to spend the weekend!

Eastcoaster up and at it before everyone else.

My approach? I figured I start with the holes in the body. There were a lot of them and they needed to be fixed. Out goes the carpet, all three layers of it.

Putting the little guy to work.

Looks like a hole lot of work ahead of me.

A wagon full of trash for Trey to haul off.

Wow, hats off to you guys for tackling these restorations with all that rust! Believe me, I remember what that's like. I live in sunny AZ now but spent my first 30 years in Upstate NY and dealt with trucks just like I'm seeing in this thread. Never again for me! And to those of you that have never had to deal with rust like that, let me tell you, there is a whole skill set mechanics back east have developed that guys I've met in AZ are unaware of. And nothing is more heart wrenching than putting your soul into a Restoration to know the second you are done, the rust clock starts ticking

Not to be a prick and rub it in but my dealings with rust consist of taking a fine wire wheel on a drill, chasing off the dust-like surface rust and painting I usually spend 30 mins on rust removal and paint whenever I am under the truck and it is all I need. For example, when I did the 2.5" lift I did this in a few mins when I was done:

I'll get back to the chronological posting later but we wanted to get the dogs out tonight and I figured I better grab some pics while I was at it.

We are fortunate enough to live right next to Cinder Hills OHV. It is a public off highway area covered in volcanic cinder. It is somewhat like driving in sand. Brought the dogs out for a run. The Sheppard is Henry (as in Ford!) and the heeler is Wrangler. Henry is still young and I let him chase the Bronco for exercise.

Here is Henry being handsome:

Briefly contemplating a hill charge..... nah, too early in May to roll the Bronco now!

The San Francisco peaks look awesome today with some rare cloudy skies.

OK, nothing amazing but here is a video (available in 1080! lol) of me ripping around in the cinders so my dog can get a good sprint in. You can kinda tell how the cinders act and hear my new exhaust. Nothing fancy, just a cat delete and 2 in / 2 out Dynomax. I didn't want anything over the top and my 302 is stock.

Some more wheeling pic from before the tear down, man I had some good fun in this Bronco, it kept up with the locked jeeps and yotas even thought it was open front and rear.

Win or lose I'm glad this month is back on track. I may not be able to beat the competition but it won't be for a lack of effort or pics. I'm just scratching the surface and have wheeling trips planned this month!

After the cinders yesterday we came home, fired up the grill and turned the horses out. The deal I have is I am only allowed as many Broncos as she gets horses. Not sure I agree but when the right Bronco comes along we'll test the rule!

Here are the ponies in the front yard together:

The next two days are calling for thunderstorms. It's either the garage or the top. I'm going to drag my feet, I try not to run the top anymore than I have to. Here's my stable with big brother in the background.

I'm kind of the noob to the bronco world but I'm a true blue Ford man as was my father before me. I picked up my 96 a year ago for $1,800 it ran and drove home but needed some TLC as they all do. I drive a few mustangs and got tired of having to run home and hide them anytime the weather here in Oklahoma would get a little rough. So my idea was to buy a cheap beater car/truck as my bad weather ride. I had no idea that I would enjoy this thing as much as I have. She is now rolling on 211,000 miles and has become my DD. Such cool trucks for sure. Anyways on to the pics... We don't have much to climb here in OKC so.... lol.

The night I got her... Her first trip to local bar.

Didn't take long for those crappy rotted tires to lead me to the tire shop.

Once I got the fuel pump fixed and a good tune up it was time to start cleaning up her look. For me and the chrome had to go.

throttle cable lol

Spark plugs where in bad shape. Broke most them getting them out.

Fuel pump was gone.

Quick paint job.
