Need SAS shock help

I know, i know...the first thing everyone's gonna post is "SEARCH!! " but i can't remember who's got a setup like mine (besides Blaze) so i'll just ask y'all to bear with me and re-type the info.

I know how to measure for shocks, that's not difficult. The problem is that i have such a tight schedule, that by the time i get everything assembled, it'll be too late to order shocks and get them delivered before I have to leave for R.I.T.S. I need to put the order in now and have them waiting to be installed when i get to that step of the buildup.

I'm running a '79 D44 with stock '79 upper & lower coil mounts. I've got '79 6" Skyjacker coil springs and B&T radius arm extentions (if they matter). The upper shock mounts are the mid-90's F250/F350 style (with an eye-bolt). Lower mounts will be the stock '79 style and both are behind the coil.

Y'all can see that my setup is not exotic by any means...

Can anyone with a similar set up give me an approximate extended/compressed length, or even better a part # ? I really don't care what shocks I run, as long as i have a set up there for the drive to Arkansas.

If they're horrible, then i'll change them when i get back...

If you've got the room, you can't go wrong with the cage shocks. I like mine, #'s 1015. These are 14" travel, about 19" compressed and 32.xx extended. If you feel you don't have the room, the 12" travel should work well also. $38/ea. and if they still have the sale, it's buy 3 get 4.

i have the same set up kinda im running 6 inch chvey rear shocks from procomp with the tops cut off and a bolt welded on it cause i used ttb coil buckets they have tones of travel

this has been argues, but those of us with coils have been getting the longest travel 9000's (15" IIRC 9012) and mounting the upper mount so that 4 inches of shock cylinder is showing at ride height. This is leaving us with enuf up and down. Yes, its not the most scientific method, but leaves room for tweaking for more travel if you swap springs, or arms or something in the future.

oh, those cage shocks are very nice too. Im running them on my superduty and they are sweet.

this is what i did, and it works perfectly. the only difference is im running 5000's (5012)

92 bronco with lots o' goodies

here is my upper mounting.....shock isnt mounted on the arm yet.

I mounted the mount as high as I could on the passager side(the A/c box prevented going higher) and the same on the driver side. I know these pics are not exactly the setup you will be running but just to give you an idea how an 14" shock will fit. I dont use all the travel of the shock in eiter compression or extended

They make the Cage Radius Arms many of us are using.

In speaking with Jim about these, he told me he had a friend IIRC who is an engineer with Rancho/Tenneco, that's how these started. I believe they worked out specs with Jim, and then produced a limited run of several thousand sets in various travel options.

I was a bit skeptical since the shocks are so cheap. But I was lucky enough to live near CageOffroad and so went and visited. After spending some time there, I was convinced I would try them. You can't go wrong with the price. Or the actual origins. and of course I was already impressed with their radius arms.

As long as I can get some years out of these, I can't say enough about the ride of these shocks.

As a matter of fact, I don't. But I can shoot a couple if interested. Going to be very similar to Dustin. I did use F250 type uppers from Wildhorses, and like Dustin, they are mounted as far up into the wheelwell as it would go with no cutting. Just enough room to accomodate the 14" travel shocks. I am going to cut the cage lower mount off. I've made my own lower, similar to Dustin's again, out of 1/4" rectangular. going to weld it on about an 1" or so more toward the coil.

hey hey hey--my finger is still about 3 times it's normal size and i can't grip anything with that hand right now.....

The plan is to get back in the garage as soon as i can physically pick up a wrench again

just mount them as far up as possible. I cut my inner ener well to get mine up high enuf.

These are going to be my newer lower mounts, welded onto the cage arms:


EDIT:
I just noticed, for reference, see on the right where it says "top" (in the 2nd pic), that was a mark of where the old TTB coil top was (not top of coil tower, top of coil). the 78-79 coil tower and certainly shock mount, are all the way up close to top of the inner plastic fender.

That's right about 5" of rod showing.
