About the Draft

So if America did have to reinstate the draft, for those of us between 18 and 26, who would just join instead of waiting to be drafted?

I would just join, I'm guessing you would have more options if you volunteered. I did a little 2 year stay in the Army, got out early because I worked the system, wish I hadn't done that.

Just been thinking about this whole situation the past few days. I read they would start at 20 year olds and work their way up.

It would be kinda fun to go to Iraq and see my bro and my cousin and fight the good fight

Tough question, being in college I would love to finish before being drafted, but if it was a sure bet I would get drafted I would join in a heart beat.

didnt we find out that most of the overseas fighting was not all that necessary. due to the fact that the WOMD werent all that destructive??? and the stockpiling wasnt really stockpiles??? remember the big apology by Bush because Central Intelligence made it sound like the situation in Iraq was worse than it was, causing the deployment of troops. not that there fighting was in vain or anything, but maybe incorrectly timed. i dont think we need to worry about a draft. so my advice is to not worry... put down your weapons, boys...

let me tell you a little story about the draft.

When my dad was young and ripe in his prime. Korean war time. He had a real close friend. His buddy's mother said if you join instead of getting drafted you will not have to go to the front lines and fight in the war. They will keep you on US soil keeping everything going here.

My dad said if they want me they will draft me.

So they played it out. His friend joined, went to boot camp and got flown stright into the war.

My dad got drafted and was stationed in Colorado for 2 or 3 years what ever his draft time was. Then he got out.

Take this info for what you wish, but I know They would have had to draft me if they wanted me. Now this peice of meat is too old for them.

Umm. Iraq is done, Iran and Syria are next.

Why taco you ask?

We cant leave that region with Israel just chillin all alone. Iran will poke shit at Israel, Sharon will start launching ICBMs and we would be on our way back into a un-planned shitstorm. Iran is just waiting for us to leave so they can create a power vaccum in Iraq and toss rocks at Israel.

Draft may be necessary to put enough soldiers on the ground in both Iraq and Iran. Someone needs to nip this shit in the butt and take down the crazy, smelly, islamofreaks. We aint leaving any time soon, unless maybe Kerry gets in office. If our nation takes ONE more terrorist attack the retaliation will begin.

All out bombs dropped on Syria, Iran and more muslim nations. It will happen.

How can you ignore millions of crazy bastids taught to hate western civilization and kill the infidel? You cant, not anymore. You can only burn em out like cockroaches.

I think a lot of people don't realize that Iraq isn't the only thing happening in the world right now. Nation's all over the place need to be policed. Korea and the Phillipines come to mind.

I've already done my time but for those who are still eligible for the draft, I say join in now and have more options available to you.

Make sure you sign up as an Infantryman, because now, it seems like it doesn't matter what MOS you have, you'd still do grunt work. Might as well get the training.

Most of you folks are too young to remember that the draft was an everyday part of life for us guys coming out of high school back in the mid-fifties. My 1A status kept me out of a good job with IBM so I joined up. Best thing that I ever did. You get room, board, a paycheck, free medical, free food, and you learn how to grow up.

Six years later, I got my prize, not a 5A draft status, but a hell of an education.

'Course they never learned how to spell my middle name!

Before anyone goes volunteering for this sheeit, do yourself a favor and go see Ferrenheit 9/11...
Oh, and there is not going to be a draft anytime soon, so I wouldn't get too bent about the issue. However I don't think it is a bad idea...it may straighten out some of the younger-generation who have no clue about values such as honor, duty and respect *no, I am not saying all younger folks are that way*. Plus, I would love to see Congressmen's pampered kids out in full body armor, doing the most mundain tasks out in 130 degree temps...
Finally, I am leaving the Army after 16 years of service (four active and 12 in the reserves, and one combat tour as an infantryman back when I was much younger) because I plan on getting married to Missy and raising a family - and because the army reserves seems to get more f@%ked up with every day that passes. My ETS date is one month from today. However, I will still be here through the end of the year on force protection duty in the blast furnace of the earth courtesy of Bush and the Pentagon's use of "the fine print" (that little clause known as stop-loss) - thanks George Dubya - so I am waaay past worrying about a draft.
