I use old socks, shirts or whatever else the ol' lady tosses my way for shop rags or paper towels if cotton stuff supply is out. If you keep 'em wiped off after every use... the never really get "dirty".

I use my shirt if it gets to oily to hold on to, then wash it in the shower once a month if it needs it or not.

Odorless mineral spirit works good also. For something cheap, simple green and purple power.
