I want to rebuild my rear bumper and I think I found the inspiration for the new rear bumper.

Thumbs up All main construction done!

Alright I'm all finished up with the main fabrication. Here are some pictures of the thing installed and usable.

I'm still really wrestling with the decision on what to do for paint. Normally I'd just get out the brush and go for it, but since it's so cold out I have to do it inside which is a major pain as my garage isn't heated. Now I'm kicking around the idea of powdercoating it myself... At any rate I'll probably wait awhile to do it.

I'll have to keep an eye on this. Looks like the perfect 2Gen bumper there.

Thanks all! I really appreciate all the positive comments after the hard work. I'm about positive this group, and the 4x4 club I'm in are the only people who don't think I'm crazy (besides my wife ).

Really slick bumper. I like how tucked in the spare is. I would like to build something very similar.

Teaser!

Guess what...

I finally finished painting last night! It's hanging in my basement curing; hope to have it installed tonight!

Teasers of the painting process...

Working with Muriatic Acid to remove mill scale. Really nasty stuff but beats the hell out of angle grinders/brush wheels.

All clean after ~2hrs of keeping it wet

The bumper portion took for ever for the acid to work fully... But again, very easy process compared to manual labor.

Primer!

I can't believe I'm almost done! It seems like I've been working on this thing FOREVER. I started designing back in September I guess...

Finished!

Alright, it's all installed and finished! Just need to run hose for the air system.

Enjoy!

I ran into 2 small hiccups with the final assembly.
1) I didn't allow enough clearance for my wiring harness so I can only open it to the 90 degree position right now. If I opened it all the way it would get pinched. I'll need to relocate the harness to come out a hole on the back face of the arm.

2) My detent / hold open block looks like it may be a bit too soft for the steep ramp I have for the pin to ride up. A soft spot developed where the pin actually is catching/digging in so I have to lift the pin mannually. I'm going to try making the ramp much more gradual and see if it holds up.

It feels nice to be done! All in all i'm really happy with how it turned out. I like the way the paint looks too.

Thanks!

I already fixed the detent block issue. Made the ramp much more gradual and it's way better.

Also, got a chance to test out my new backup lights and they are BRIGHT! The fence far out in the background is ~45 yds away.

Great looking bumper. If the lock pin is still having a little trouble. See if you can put a small bevel on bottom of pin so it will help it ride up the ramp. Did you say you had drawings available?

I assume those are some places you have wheeled? SMORR is in my backyard. I sure don't get to go often enough with the work schedule I have now. I did pick me up a 94 Bronco to make a toy out of if I ever get the other projects out of the way. Have a Great Day, Bruce

Thanks Bruce! I appreciate the tip on the bevel; however it seems reworking the slope on my ramp did the trick as the nylon is holding up just fine now. I have swung it open plenty of times and no issues.

It is my plan to get drawings posted; but I'm taking my time to get those done. We just welcomed twin sons into our family, and I barely have managed time to get my new Holley Sniper EFI setup installed by working super late into the night

I love SMORR, it's my favorite place to wheel in the Midwest so far! I have also frequented the Branson/Ozarks area for vacationing / fishing trips as well. I hope you get time to work on your 94! We need more FSBs on the trails Have a great Easter weekend.
