The worst rust hole on the whole thing

tailgate is almost perfect came off a arizona truck, Might be selling soon, has good window motor in it.

Its got a 460 in it and a 4 inch lift with cheapo 33"s
It made the half an hour trip home at least.

It won't be too bad. The first thing on the list is a tci tranny, then a s&w cage and some decent seats. I bought it for a beater so the sheet metal doesn't really bother me any

Solid looking truck

and a 460 to boot ! Nice ! How'd it feel on the way home ? The motor feel strong ?

Know anyone who welds or are you gonna learn ?

It runs great, best part of the truck. I think one of the lifters is making some noise ever once in awhile but I am changing the cam soon anyways. It doesn't burn oil or smoke or nothing. Supposedlly its been bored 30 over and the heads have been gone through.
Also the 460 was out of a car so it has the wrong oil pan on it. I happen to have the correct one laying around though just have to swap them out.

the tranny was acting a little wierd but I want to rebuild one anyways, or just throw that tci one in there and not worry about. It acted like it was sliping while it shifted, or it took forever to shift. Once it went into gear it was fine. I am thinking that vacum modulator might need replaced The vacum hose going to it needs replaced too.

I can weld fine, however I'll probably have a friend do the cage as that's pretty important to get right and he builds sandrails for people so he's used to doing tube.

I can do all the other stuff no big deal though. I got another set of axles I will probably rebuild to throw under it, I cannot get the little snap ring to go on the driver's side front. the inner locking hub won't go back far enough so its loose.

Sounds great

Check the modulator and think about blowing $30.00 on a remote trans filter, before you even change the internal filter or fluid. Just slap it on and let it work for a week.

Then change the spin on filter and I'll bet she shifts better. Had a 727 out of a beater and thought it was dead the way it shifted. Slapped the remote filter on and it's still running strong.

Yeah, I was thinking the bands might need adjusted too, which is easy enough. It wouldn't hurt nothing to get the trans filter though eithier.

It started missing yesterday too when i was mesing with it, but its got cheapo plugs on it and the cap and rotor needs replaced, had white build up on it.

I could find it but do you have a link to the tranny filter you usually use?

Summit list this remote filter housing under Perma-Cool number 5021 and at $20 it's a lot cheaper than any kit available. I bought it to replace my Fram one because I want to hook up a trans temp gauge.

Don't change in the internal filter and fluid until you let this do it's job for a week or three. Sometimes the sudden change is too much for older trannies.

Being an AOD owner I keep forgetting about manual band adjustments. Definitely worth a shot.

Good luck

Thanks

I think I am going to get that, a filter, and the offroad jets and seats for the edelbrock carb that's on it ATM.
Also is that summit kit with the hose and filter Junk? or would it be good enough

It's just fine

I already had barbed fittings, hose, etc from the Fram remote I'd had on it before. All I needed was the remote housing with the temp sensor provision.

The Summit kit is great except it looks to have the provision in the pic, but several guys have told me it doesn't.

Good kit for the money IMHO. You'll love that carb !

Ok thanks for the help I'll get that one then since i don't have anything and it has the fitting else where for the tranny guage already. I think I am going to order the performer cam and lifter set too, and maybe a new timing set.

I think that carb will work too, Its a 750 on it and I've read those seats make it work good on the trails. Anybody have any good links for tuning the edelbrock carbs?, i haven't ever messed with them much.

Alls I can offer you is the Mopar tuning guide for maximum performance and mileage. Don't listen to Chevy guys they do go hand in hand if you follow this tuning method;

For $30.00 the Crane adjustable vacuum advance canister may be the second best $30.00 you'll ever spend.

I know you don't give a $h!t about mileage on the trail, but this really can dial your carbed engine into the sweet spot and let you have your cake and eat it too.

Sixlitre

p.s./
If you're looking for tuning info look Mopar. These Edelbrocks are really just improved Carters and Mopars used nearly nothing but for many years (including Hemis, 440s, 340s, 383s, 426 Max Wedges, 413s, etc).

Thanks for the info. I got the manual off of edelbrock site and I am going to do some stuff this weekend and see what I can come up with.

Yeap, It already is/has been actually, had to make sure the transfer case and all that worked.
I don't care the 92 is a street queen I mean it does have 18" wheels on it. It has at least been up to silver lake at least twice a year for the past 3 years.

I haven't driven mine enough yet to say if I like it more then the '92. So far it is more fun to work on. I've got a lot more to do before its road worthy though. Should be done by next spring.

I was working on fixing the floor today and went to start it but it won't go. I think I fried something welding on the floor. I did have the battery disconected though so I thought i was fine. Its wierd it only gets spark right when you let off of the switch. I am thinking maybe the coil? or the ignition module?
