More goodies, guns, anti stick poly powder, gravity cups and instructions. Hmm this looks complicated, might have to get my paint friend to help out on this one. I never took paint in high school or college, I took shop and home economics instead.

wear protective gear with that aircraft stripper. You dont want to get that on you at all. it burns. Wear a respirator too, a good one not no BS dust mask. A tyvek jump suit would be good too.

I got some chemical resistant rubber gloves and was gonna get some painters coveralls when I go to get the paint to tint the bed liner and paint the body with. Respirator was also on my list , was going to get the replaceable canister type that body shops use. The stripper and the bed liner is supposed to low VOC, water based and low fume but I do not want to trash my lungs so I am gonna wear a respirator anyhow, I am working outside too so lots of fresh air is not an issue. I also have a face shield to wear to protect my face from splashing goo and when I pressure wash. I have worked with meuratic acid before and want to use that to etch the metal, that stuff is strait up dangerous to breath.

Good!

I have used that aircraft stripper alot. That shit even ate thru the gloves I was using, burnt like hell. It works fantastic though. It will bubble up and turn it to goo in no time. Be careful with that acid. Thats serious stuff. Im a chemist and I know. I have been acid burnt more times than I like. HCL is bad, some of the others are worse. Nitric acid is so bad it kills the nerve endings immediately and you dont even hardly feel it. Sulfuric acid will turn your finger to black charcoal.

Poke me with a fork, I am done for today, 5:00 and no lunch. Gonna let'er soak overnight and flip her the other way tomarrow. Think I am gonna need some more degreaser too. Used about 7 gallons so far, the undercoat is pretty hard and it only got to 55 degrees so it is not real soft to start with.

I bet you are. It wears me out looking at the pics. Looks like you're making good progress though, looks like she's cleaning up real good with all that elbow grease! Keep up the good work.

It is really clean underneath, I was suprised once I started to get the goo off. The inside of the rear quarters are being a bitch though. Stuff does not want to break up, considering some other options like a toilet brush or wire boiler brush to clean that out. The wheel wells are totally shiny and rust free. I think I can ever save the rear crossmember and just patch it, it is the worst area ( actually the only area) that has rust underneath.
huck2080 and SRWillis like this.

Nice work FE. How are you going to get all the (gunk/diesel mix) Film off so the box liner stuff will stick. Thats going to suck.

MEK rinse for dewax and prep. Going to apply it with a siphon blow gun. Then a scotch Brite maroon scuff with a SEM epoxy primer base to make it stick. Might possibly use denatured alcohol first to break up the scuz. Right after the first pressure was I will spray it down with hot water and Simple Green in a lawn and garden spray jug to do a primary rinse, it works well for degreasing and oil rinse. Also the addition of the Gunk Super Clean aides in breaking up the diesel fuel.
