Need header help for my 351W swap

I thought for sure my 351W headers from my '89 Bronco would fit, in my '78 Bronco, but they don't.

Now I need ideas on what to do.

I prefer full length, but if I must go shorty, then I will.

Not many put a small block in a 78/79.

You'd probably have to post up pics
of what is interfering for anyone
to give good feedback.

I took the headers back out. Forgot to take pics. Then borrow a pair of shorties equal length. Drivers side fits, passenger doesn't seem to.

I'm a little confused as to your problem. Are you trying to put the headers from your 89 351W on your 351M and they don't fit the heads or won't fit in the engine bay? I have long tubes in one of mine a matter of fact the are OX1 old headers. Please clarify.

Once again, it is hard to even start with a suggestion unless we know why they don't fit and what they are hitting. I know many shorties don't work in early broncos, so that is one place to look for something with different routing. What about 302, 2WD headers from an F150?

The drivers side this the front drive shaft, and the passenger side hit the frame and motor mount.

I have no idea about the 2wd headers, no one has any to try.

78-79 passenger side is tight!

Sanderson makes a set for the 60's mustangs that might fit. They have some dimensions here:

Don't order on my advice, measure and find out!

FWIW, manifolds vs headers is moot below 5000 rpm

I haven't seen or heard of a header that will work for your app. The only thing I can think of is get a pair of shorties and pipe it or look for some fenderwell exit headers instead of chassis exit.

Early bronco might be the way to go, look at these headers.

They had very tight frames, so headers have to hug block more, you
can see on pass side how header tubes run backwards quite
a bit before going downward (vs std 302/351W truck/stang headers).

Early broncos also had the same mechanical clutch linkage and solid front axle issues that 78/79's had.

That may be your best bet.

X2 Wild Horses is pretty good, I bet if you call them up they can give you some dimensions.

Let us know what fits....I seriously considered a 351W E4OD swap for mine

thanks guys. This has been more of a headache then first thought.

I was also looking at full headers for an '81 bronco on broncograveyard.com

#30046

those almost look like they will fit, but not sure on the drivers side driveline clearance.

if you have a 351w you have to get headers for the 351 cause 302s won,t fit

Are there such thing as high flow manifolds? If so maybe look into those if you cant find headers that fit?
