Tailgate motor madness

trying to replace the tailgate lift motor with one of these:

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...ier=41182_0_0_

it won't line up with the holes for the screws. there is only one position where the motor sits flat and the shaft is centered in the whole. if you try to rotate it it just falls off. it sits at an angle, maybe 5 degrees off horizontal. you would think altering the gear position by spinning the motor, or the window position by moving the arms, would allow it to creep to the right position. you would be wrong.

yes, I have read the thread

http://www.supermotors.net/registry/2742/12689-2

you got to be a bloody contortionist to work on this thing, then this crops up.

am I missing something?

I ran into the same problem with the autozone junk. I had to grind the hole open a little, but it will bolt up. Its easier if you remove the regulator.

First: stay OUT of the zone. If they sold you a motor that doesn't fit, RETURN IT and buy one from a decent store, or (even better) a junkyard.

Second: study this pic.

Some regulators are slotted for that screw; some aren't. If yours isn't and you need it to be, go after it with a round file.

Amazon delivers everywhere. Put your location in your profile. While you're at it, put ALL your truck's details in a signature:

I literally just finished installing pretty much that motor bought from napa. At first it was not lining up, but got the center pin in te hole and pivoted it so the screw holes lined up. From what I saw when I installed it, the gear on the motor had to line up with the window gear to fit right*obviously* but I still got it to work and now mine moves yay!! Lol

All you need to do is replace the bushings on the original motor. The last few yrs of these trucks have the window motors rivited together though.

I bought another motor from Long Motor Company. Identical in every way to the Autozone motor.

I removed the regulator, drilled the one hole that is spaced different from the others and put the motor in. Et voila - success.

in the future I will be one more voice in the "just remove the regulator" chorus.
