Theyre nice, but way too expensive. I built my one-tons for wayyyy less then those sell for, as have many others on here.

oh i'm sure. it would just be nice to have dana 60 stregnth and dana 60 front but keep the 5 bolt wheels. plus they just look bad ass. hell if we all had the money they spend on extreme 4x4 they wouldn't be a problem.

whats the point of keeping 5 lug wheels??

some people have spent a good deal of money for their wheels and tires. plus who the hell wants 8 lugs to take off to change a tire if you dont have to.

I'd buy rockwells before I'd buy those. I am doing just that because when I was quoted for my front 60 and rear 60, I hung up the phone and laughed my brains out.

what's the price?

Good god, 1/2 your house man cost wise!

With 5 lug, no locker included at that point, 1330 joints for the Dshaft (stock for most of us). yawn.

good point... but i've found using four works well enough on the 8 lug:toothless

i figure if i spent that much on axles i could probably afford whatever bling rims i wanted to and would be going for strength... and not worrying about my old wheels

dynatrac has been around for ever and your just discovering this?

I was quoted $3000 for a bare essentials front 60(no locker with 5.13 gears), and was quoted $2500 for the rear 60

i was quoted in the 4k's for both front and rear??? but your way better off building you own 60, plus you cant get kingpin axle instead of ball joints. (nothing against ball joints btw)

holy fawk i built both my D60 & D70 for less than one of those

Oh, and id rather have 8 lugs instead of 5; the more lugs holding the wheel on, the less likely i am to shear them off :toothless

Nothing wrong with ball joints, lot's wrong with the unit bearing hubs that come with them :doh0715:

Jojo had one of the high-clearance 60s in his rig. IIRC Kuss did too.

What happened to those guys? They had some of the most kickass stuff...

don't know about jojo, but he never posted much either while in attendance.

Kuss, didn't he wheel his and do a minor roll with the family, or am I thinking of someone else. He was mentioning how glad he was he had done a nice cage. but it did a fair amount of damage.

I think they start shearing off when the wheels are spaced further out than intended. I saw a toyota in Prairie city with six sheared and his wheels looked to be around 72-74 apart inside the tires. Looked like the wms was only in the high 60's.

ya I recall something like that..out at truckhaven I think actually ended up damaging his hand.

the price is not that bad when you sit down and think about it...
my d60 FULL FLOAT build estimates compared to that:
*D60 from the yard... $100
*35 spline shafts $300
*spindles to incorporate the larger shafts: $100 to have bored or $xxx for new spindles(prolly 300 for pair) and install fee
*detroit and gears w/ install kit: 90 + 500+ 200 = $790
*disk brake conversion with calipers, rotors and new bearings: $350
*HD cover $100 bux..

granted these are full float numbers but wouldnt be any different for semi float

The prices on some stuff is a little high
TOTAL $1740 thats with YOU assembling it... add at least 300 bux for someone else to do the work...
so 1740ish builds you an equivalent strength axle to the dynatrac...

Dynatrac axle.. unfortunatley semi float... optional 5 lug...
ITS NEW! No rusty tubes, no rusty center section, no scarring on the bearing surfaces, no burns from spun bearings, guaranteed straight(some JY axle could be bent from p/o), billet ends blah blah blah... it comes painted AND HAS A WARRANTY...

so the $500 dollar or so difference gets you NEW not used parts and a warranty over what you would build and spend hours on.....

there actually NOT that bad when you step back and look at it... now reallistically is there anything wrong with the 78 axle under my truck...no not likely... If i charged myself like $50/hr on labor time on my front D44 build plus parts etc... shit thats a 3000 dollar axle right there easy...

if you cant afford it cool... but you may spend just that much building a bulletproof axle... and when you go out first run and a bearing goes or an axle snaps you dont have to say oh chit and dig around deep in your pockets... you make a phone call...

same thingwith the front 60... i understand everyone here can build a 60 that suits them for cheaper than a dynatrac... but when you buy a BJ 60 and build it to match those specs you will prolly spend just as much...
BJ60 $850
Alloy 35 spline outer shafts with huge 1480 joints : Outers: $400 Inners: ???$200 at least 1480: 50 ea
The knucles arent cast on the dynatrac: machined knuckles ??? $500/pr at least..
r&P and install kit : $260 ish
im at $2310 want me to keep going??? Remember we dont have brakes or warn 35 outers yet
High steer arms: .... u starting to get the point???
cover, rotors and THE MAD EXPENSIVE warn 35 spline hubs: Yea i think youve got the point...
oh and there new parts that you dont have to build...

everyone here saves money by building there own and likes doing it... we build what we need... those axles are WAY overkill for me...
i built my dana 44 for cheaper than dynatrac...but i wont say that they are anywhere near comparible...

break it down into equivalent strength/quality/age parts, labor time, and add a warranty and youll see the difference...

That makes all the difference for me right there. I would never consider spending that kind of cash on a bling factory built axle that's not a full-floater. I don't see the point. If you break a shaft, your basically in the same deep sh!t you were if you had a stock 8.8 of 9", but you sure spent a whole lotta cash to be in that predicament.
