View Full Version : Pismo/Oceano Dunes Camping trip October 12-14
steveG 09-12-2007, 03:41 PM The date is set, who's coming?
I'll be out there on Saturday for sure. If someone decides to show up Friday night I can do that too. As of now my wife and 2 daughters (14 months and almost 4) are camping as well, so bring your kids young and old. A few others are bringing kids as well so please keep that in mind (read watch your language, don't get belligerently drunk, etc.):thumbup
We'll have our camping trailer out there and a small propane grill. I also have a small charcoal grill I'll take in case we need it. I'll have a generator and a small microwave in the trailer if anyone needs it.
For those that haven't camped or driven on the dunes, it's a piece of cake, any truck and a lot of cars are more than capable of driving on and off the beach. Whatever you bring, air down to 15psi (unless you're in a really heavy truck). I air down my trailer as well so it's not acting like an anchor behind me.
What do you guys want to do about food?
If anyone has any questions post here or send me a PM.
Andy351 09-12-2007, 03:59 PM sounds fun, i'll try and cruise out there sometime on saturday.
flyinbronco 09-12-2007, 03:59 PM I'm volunteering my girl Amber to do Dinner Saturday night.:whip
Her camp fire culinary skills are amazing. She made roasted pork loin, red potatoes, and corn on the cob with a killer salad at the Baja 500 last June and was feeding the drivers as we fixed their cars. I'll try to get the menu up soon.
Steve; Do you have a fire wood hookup? Gotta have a fire.
California Monkey 09-12-2007, 04:03 PM Do you have a fire wood hookup? Gotta have a fire.
I have some pallets at my shop if you want them I'm in livermore and the pallets are over by the airport. Let me know.
I won't be making the trip (as far as I can tell) but you never know with some of these west coast guys. I might get kidnapped. :drinkbud
Andy351 09-12-2007, 04:11 PM pallets are a no-no out there. i have a local firewood hookup that i can probably use, but would require filling something other than the bko as it can't hold a lot. when my crew rolls out there its usually with a half dozen truck beds full of logs.
steveG 09-12-2007, 04:18 PM Andy what does the wood cost?
We have a small trailer I can use to pick up firewood.
California Monkey 09-12-2007, 05:10 PM I cut the pallets up to get rid of the nail section. Works well because when your done, the pieces are the right size for most fire pits.
flyinbronco 09-12-2007, 07:12 PM pallets are a no-no out there. i have a local firewood hookup that i can probably use, but would require filling something other than the bko as it can't hold a lot. when my crew rolls out there its usually with a half dozen truck beds full of logs.
Thats what I'm talking about. A six pickup load type fire. Burn baby Burn.
Thanks for the offer on the pallets there Cal. monkey but I'll be driving my Bronco down full of gear so no room for wood. I'm hoping some of the locals can make it happen.
Andy351 09-13-2007, 04:45 AM Andy what does the wood cost?
We have a small trailer I can use to pick up firewood.
nothing. i might know a girl who had a friend on the cal poly logging team. they almost always have a large pile of scrap eucalyptus logs, they get to cut down a lot of trees. nobody really wants those eucalyptus around anyway. we can just cruise by a day or two before hand and load up.
i will probably be out with a bunch of my college age buddies in their rigs as well. we do an annual friday night school kickoff trip this time of year and camp out in the dunes as we like to get a little rowdy and the rangers/dirt bikers don't bother us as much out there.
steveG 09-13-2007, 02:28 PM nothing
Awesome and thank you! I've found that free wood burns best!
If for whatever reason it needs to be picked up earlier let me know and I'll take care of it.
sorry guys but i am out that weekend, but i will be up for something in the beginning of the year.
steveG 09-14-2007, 01:34 AM Rick, I talked to John and as of now that weekend is free and he sounded really interested. It's your turn to call and bug him!
Brokenbronco 09-14-2007, 01:59 AM sorry guys but i am out that weekend, but i will be up for something in the beginning of the year.
Aww jeeeezzz Ollie! :cry
Brokenbronco 09-14-2007, 02:02 AM I think if we all bring all bundle of wood, that should be plenty. We do that on other group trips i have been on, and we allways have some left over.
What, are you guys getting John to come so he can also bag on my ride?:twak:smilie_slap:shocked
flyinbronco 09-14-2007, 11:04 AM Rick, I talked to John and as of now that weekend is free and he sounded really interested. It's your turn to call and bug him!
I called John yesterday and he sounded kinda ify. Is that a word? I was going to bribe him with Amber's cooking but you already let that cat outa the bag. We'll just have to stay after him.
And no Nick I doubt he'd bag on your ride.
steveG 09-14-2007, 03:34 PM And no Nick I doubt he'd bag on your ride.
At least not to your face, LOL.
Nick you know we love you and your Bronco. If it'll make you feel better we can have a group hug when we get out there.:toothless
BajaBronco13 09-14-2007, 03:58 PM At least not to your face, LOL.
Nick you know we love you and your Bronco. If it'll make you feel better we can have a group hug when we get out there.:toothless
If two grown man can't spoon hug...... uh I mean group hug, there's something really wrong with the world. :)
Brokenbronco 09-14-2007, 04:33 PM At least not to your face, LOL.
Nick you know we love you and your Bronco. If it'll make you feel better we can have a group hug when we get out there.:toothless
Aww shucks!:drinkbud
Ptack1 09-14-2007, 08:24 PM Man this is sounding like a great trip. Im gonna do my damndest to get out there (as long as the tranny holds out)
Blueblood 09-14-2007, 09:40 PM Hey Nick just because you dont have all Autofab stuff on your bronc doesnt make it any less of a bronc atleast yours is moving under its own power :) us non autofab guys got to stick together.
yikes 09-14-2007, 09:53 PM Hey Nick just because you dont have all Autofab stuff on your bronc doesnt make it any less of a bronc atleast yours is moving under its own power :) us non autofab guys got to stick together.
Yeah Nick. You could have a stocker like mine. :toothless
flyinbronco 09-17-2007, 11:24 AM Well Steve it looks like our work to get John out for some fun has worked. He'll hopefully be coming with our friends Tom and Julie. This is going to be a great trip. I'm offically excited now.:chili:
steveG 09-17-2007, 07:39 PM Oh man have I blown it!
My Brother reminded me this past weekend that October 19-21 is the weekend of the Oceano Dunes Beach Race & Festival. In other words, it's freakin' NUTS on the beach that weekend.
If you guys still want to do it that weekend I'm up for it, but be foreworned. The dunes WILL be packed and reservations are a must!
Let me know what you guys want to do.
Brokenbronco 09-17-2007, 07:50 PM Let's do it another weekend, i hate big crowds! I know Blueblood and some others said that jan would work, i'm up for waiting until then. Besides, i have to pay for the carnage from the last pismo trip. Blown drivers side hub, smashed a/c fan box, fubarred rear window...
steveG 09-17-2007, 07:59 PM Are other October weekends a no-go for you?
ruthless69 09-17-2007, 08:34 PM I agree, lets reschedule.
Last time I was out there with my family, I almost got in a fist fight with a volunteer who kept hitting the side of my truck with his fist while directing traffic (and I'm a mellow peace loving guy!)
With high tide and too many people, it becomes too dangerous - please reschedule, thanks.
yikes 09-17-2007, 09:11 PM Let's do it another weekend, i hate big crowds! I know Blueblood and some others said that jan would work, i'm up for waiting until then. Besides, i have to pay for the carnage from the last pismo trip. Blown drivers side hub, smashed a/c fan box, fubarred rear window...
I've got a spare hub if you need it Nick.
Howz' the following weekend work for everyone?
steveG 09-17-2007, 09:21 PM The last weekend in October is bad for me. What about the end of the 6th or 13th" of October?
Guys I'm really sorry about the screw up. I knew the race was coming but completely forgot about it when planning this. I was kicking and cussing myself all weekend after I figured it out. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get to a computer until a little while ago.
Rick, we need to talk to John to see if any other weekend would work for him.... sucks after talking him into it and getting him all charged up.
Grrrrrrr!:banghead:banghead:banghead
Blueblood 09-17-2007, 10:04 PM damn steve dont be so hard on yourself its not like anyone here can or would fire you.:)
Ptack1 09-17-2007, 11:52 PM Just pick another weekend, it'll be alright
and Parish, you almost got in a fight, that dude must have REALLY pissed you off.
Brokenbronco 09-18-2007, 12:42 AM I've got a spare hub if you need it Nick.
Howz' the following weekend work for everyone?
I sure could use it! I'll give ya a jingle. Thanks man!
flyinbronco 09-18-2007, 11:37 AM Well this is a fine how do you do:doh0715. I'm no longer excited. :cry
How about the weekend of the 13th & 14th. Who can make it then?
steveG 09-18-2007, 12:13 PM Yeah, it sucks. I know.
I can do the 13th & 14th. I'll call John in a bit and see if any other weekends will work for him.
Andy351 09-18-2007, 01:16 PM i'll still be out there
drj777 09-18-2007, 09:13 PM im trying to get my 150 into the shop for a LT kit up front...and a few other things before B1K in november...
so - if the trucks not still in the shop - id love to get a PISMO trip in before halloween...sounds like fun!!
drj
:thumbup
steveG 09-19-2007, 02:33 PM So is everyone OK with the 13th & 14th?
Brokenbronco 09-19-2007, 02:52 PM I'm out, the rest of oct is booked for me.
steveG 09-21-2007, 03:25 AM Interest has sure petered out since the snafu. :cry
Are we rescheduling or is the October trip a no-go?
Brokenbronco 09-21-2007, 04:34 AM I still want to go, but october is out for me.
steveG 09-21-2007, 10:54 AM Sounds good Nick. Whether we camp in October or not, I'm hoping we can still do a trip in January or February. There seemed to be plenty of people that wanted to come over then.
How about everyone else?
I'm still in
Andy is still in
Rick?
Ptack1?
Parish?
Yikes?
Blueblood?
BajaBronco13
Jan?
Anyone else?
flyinbronco 09-21-2007, 11:11 AM I'm still in. Have you had a chance to talk to John yet? If not I'll call him this week end.
steveG 09-21-2007, 12:11 PM I haven't talked to John yet. I sent him an email letting him know we were probably changing the date though. I have a feeling he won't be able to make it on the weekend of the 13th....
I'll PM a moderator to see if we can change the date in the title of the thread.
ruthless69 09-21-2007, 02:26 PM I'll still go.
steveG 09-21-2007, 02:29 PM Thread title changed. The weekend of the 13th is now official!
We can start getting excited again, LOL.
Glad to hear your going to make it Parish. You camping?
ruthless69 09-21-2007, 02:46 PM We'll have to wait and see about camping - I will be there at least duing day use though.
flyinbronco 09-21-2007, 03:02 PM If your sure Steve i'll start working on getting excited:chili:
steveG 09-21-2007, 03:05 PM LOL, now I'm all gun shy... but, it's done. I pulled the trigger. The family and I will be there whether or not anyone shows!
Ptack1 09-21-2007, 04:01 PM I will still try to make it, depending on teh state of the bronco. I may not wheel much, but id love to see all your rigs out there.
So i am a maybe, leaning toward no, but with a good chance of goin.
steveG 09-21-2007, 04:35 PM So you're a definite maybe!
Hope to see you out there.
Andy351 09-21-2007, 07:19 PM i'll be there
SandStallion 09-24-2007, 12:44 AM I can make it that weekend. How many people do we have so far?
BroncoD 09-26-2007, 04:19 PM I'll be camping this weekend and can prob. come that weekend too 75%. If I can't camp I can at least just come for the day if a *couch*Dodge is welcome.
Would be me and my little one.
Is any1 bring toys or mainly BKO's
HID Solutions 09-26-2007, 10:55 PM If I have my bronco still I will pull the top off and throw the dirt bike in the back and I will be there!
Garlic Bronco 09-26-2007, 11:15 PM ahh man, id love to head out to the dunes
but its my 21st birthday on the 13th and im having a keger so ima have to pass this time :(
steveG 09-27-2007, 12:44 AM It's good to see interest growing again!

All makes and models are welcome!:thumbup
Besides, at this point my plan is to take a stock 4wd Explorer.... The engine is out of the Bronco, partially disassembled and may not make it back in before the trip.
Blueblood 09-29-2007, 12:06 PM i will see if i can talk my wife into going out there. me and my monster(my son) would love to see some bronc's. i wouldnt be wheeling in the dunes(crappy street tire on are truck) but driving on the beach is no problem. what time is everyone planning on meeting out there and where? so i can plan alittle better.
Blueblood 09-29-2007, 12:45 PM just talked to my wife and i am in for 3 (me wife and son)
steveG 09-29-2007, 01:17 PM Nice, camping too? How old is your boy?
Blueblood 09-29-2007, 06:31 PM not camping this time. i just have a tent for a guys trip i wouldnt mind but with the family a trailer would be much easier. my son will be 2 in Dec. i know its kinda hard to make a guess now but any ideas where you will be camping (mile marker wise) also what would be a good time to meet up. damn am i a pain in the arse with all these ???? or what :)
ps cooking for lunch might be nice, if everyone bring meat or what they want to eat. i have a gas grill i can bring out there if this sounds like something everyone wants to do.
ruthless69 10-01-2007, 12:53 PM Just an fyi - I know a ranger that works at the Dunes and he informed this weekend that they are doing thier seasonal change of closing one part of the dunes down and opening another part of it up.
I believe they close it up in the back area (closest to the factory) and open more up by the water front?
Anyway, by the time this trip happens, we will be on relatively fresh sand and it may be pretty soupy. Make sure to watch your tire pressure (usually 15psi is adequate). Hope everyone has a great week.
Andy351 10-01-2007, 01:12 PM ruthless, is that your rig in your avatar? i saw you out there saturday, your bronco looks faster than mine...
Brokenbronco 10-01-2007, 02:06 PM ruthless, is that your rig in your avatar? i saw you out there saturday, your bronco looks faster than mine...
 Are you serious? That truck is a class 8 racer that some how got a liscense plate.
SandStallion 10-01-2007, 07:35 PM I've met up with Parish a couple of times out there. That bronc mobs!
steveG 10-01-2007, 08:05 PM BroncoD, How old is your little one? You camping?
Stallion, you coming alone?
Andy, do we need to make arrangements for wood?
Rick, haven't heard from you in a while, you still in?
Nick, you sure you can't make it?
Mike and Parish, you guys need to invest in a $500-$1000 camping trailer so you can take the fam camping!
steveG 10-01-2007, 08:30 PM Yikes, what about you?
ruthless69 10-01-2007, 11:00 PM ruthless, is that your rig in your avatar? i saw you out there saturday, your bronco looks faster than mine...
Andy, yeah that's my bronc in the avatar. we've met before back in 2004 at the dunes. you were talkin me into SAS. :) but i obviously had something else in mind. your truck has changed quite a bit since i last saw it parked at the home depot - very cool truck. look forward to seeing you out there agin. :rockon
Steve--- here's what happens when I mention camping to my wife -> :slap ;)
Blueblood 10-01-2007, 11:01 PM i hear you steve about getting a trailer , but thats 500-1000 less to get the bronc back in action
steveG 10-02-2007, 01:34 AM Steve--- here's what happens when I mention camping to my wife -> :slap ;)
LOL. is she just not into camping period?
There's a night and day difference between camping in a tent and camping in a trailer, even a cheap one. I know a lot of wives that wouldn't even entertain the idea of camping until a trailer came into the picture. We tent camped once after our youngest was born and that was the end of that. Now that we have the trailer, even with two it's a lot of fun and not near as big a pain in the ass.
Mike, I think barbecuing on Saturday sounds good. Like I said before, I'll bring a small propane grill and a small charcoal grill (whoever wants to use it needs to bring charcoal). Everyone bring something to cue and some fixin's and we'll cue it up.
How's everyone feel about chorizo and egg burritos for breakfast on Sunday?
Here's where we'll be crashing in:
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/435382/fullsize/grasshopper.jpg
Blueblood 10-02-2007, 09:30 AM damn it iam slow or i didnt read (where you said you had a grill) :)
my wife wants a trailer, as soon as my POS is running i will be looking for one
BroncoD 10-02-2007, 12:51 PM I can camp if that would make things easier. We'd have a stove, oven (I've never used the oven though in all the times we've camped haha) and a microwave.
The brushes in my genney went out on Sun (I was campin last weekend). The manuf. said they were shipping them out yest. So hopefully I'll have it fixed (need that for the microwave). And my son really likes his cartoons in the morning.:doh0715:
Looks like it will be me and my youngest one. He'll be 2 in Dec.
BlueBlood, I have plenty of room in the trailer for the boys to play too. And wait till you see my street tires, I have know idea what the PO was thinking. But I still take it back in the dunes. You shouldn't have a issue if your air down properly.
steveG 10-02-2007, 01:14 PM damn it iam slow
Well maybe, but we'll still need more grill than I'm bringing. :thumbup
yikes 10-02-2007, 01:44 PM Yikes, what about you?
I bent my driver's radius arm two weeks back (60mph unexpected jump) and I'm gathering parts to get it fixed. My Camburg's are out to powder coat right now and I'll be picking up the Mason C/T beams from Mark at the expo. I'm checking out a set of used Deavers right now as well, because I "wrapped" the rear leafs one too many times. The constant abuse is really starting to take it's toll. Just don't think I'll have time to get it all together before the trip. Hate backing out of things and making lame excuses, but I've got some work ahead of me. I've been dying to get out there too. I'll hook up with you guys soon. Have a good time!
flyinbronco 10-02-2007, 04:28 PM Dang it guys I'm going to have to bail on this trip. I was just reminded that Saturday night is our companies dinner party thats been planned for a year.:banghead I thought about blowing it off but I really don't want to piss off the owner of our company. He's a great boss and does a lot for me to keep me happy.;)
Hey Yikes I have a set of Camburg radius arms powder coated blue with no heims for sale if your interested.
steveG 10-02-2007, 05:39 PM Oh great Rick. Is this retaliation for your trans overheating while towing me out of the dunes? I promise this time I'll make it out under my own power! :toothless
No worries Rick, you're still part of the club. If you miss the trip at the beginning of the year though, you're out. Amber is still coming to cook dinner for Saturday, right?
Yikes, it's a bummer you can't make it. BTW, it sounds to me like you need a 2-link kit!
Blueblood 10-03-2007, 12:50 AM iam really looking forward to meeting everyone. BroncoD thank you for the offer i might have to take you up on that.
Rick- how did the Autofab guy get Burg radius arms? :) sucks you and amber cant make it down
yikes 10-03-2007, 01:11 AM Hey Yikes I have a set of Camburg radius arms powder coated blue with no heims for sale if your interested.
Thanks man. I've got a set ready to go. They should take a beating.
Yikes, it's a bummer you can't make it. BTW, it sounds to me like you need a 2-link kit!
2 link is right! ...among other things. Was looking at the F150 Deavers & shackles on RDC, but the owner doesn't know any details about them, so I think I'll pass.
flyinbronco 10-04-2007, 11:03 AM No believe it or not Amber is excited to get all dressed up for the company party instead of flyin through the dunes. I don't get it. :shrug
I'll do my best to make the next trip though guys.
I ended up with the Camburg arms after my first attempt at my front suspension build. It was a mish mash of parts that I bought from Baja Concepts. What a rip off. Nothing worked well together. Beams were widened near the pivot instead of at the ends and caused serious alignment issues. Had little up travel due to the differential hitting the bottom of the frame. I could go on and on but bottom line, I learned a good lesson. Just because a kit is cheaper dosen't make it better. Buy the best first and only cry once! It was John at Autofab that helped me get it right. Now my truck works great and I made a good friend in the process. Autofab rules.:rockon
SandStallion 10-04-2007, 01:10 PM Hey Flyin, I'm interested in those radius arms. Missing hiems? any other problems? How much?
Steve, I'm probably bringin my GF and my brothers if they want to go. 2 for sure at least but more might come. I'll be out there sat morning and stay all sat night till sunday afternoon. Did we have a time or place where everybody is meeting up? And were we planning on camping on the beach or back in the sand a bit? Ive found quads disturb your slumber at 6:45am if your too close to the water, but with the closure/re-opening thats going on I don't know how far back you can go now. I'll head out there this weekend and try to get an idear of the new territory.
steveG 10-04-2007, 02:15 PM No meeting time or place as of now. I'm open to suggestions. I like staying on the beach since the kids like to play by the water, but if the majority wants to go back in the dunes I'm up for that too. If we stay on the beach, I'd say toward the end so we can avoid a lot of the traffic.
I was thinking we should save the firewood favor since it looks like we'll have a larger group at the next trip. Unless, Andy, you think we can get that twice in a few months.
Maybe this trip we should all try to bring some firewood?
BroncoD, Let me know if you don't get the generator running, I've got 2. A 600 and a 2500.
SandStallion 10-04-2007, 03:29 PM From what Ive heard the end of the beach is now around Guad somewheres about. they closed the area by unocal and opened it up clean to the guadalupe beach. Will still verify this weekend.
steveG 10-04-2007, 03:36 PM I meant near the man-made end the fence.:thumbup
Edit: We should try to stick somewhat close to a restroom too.... In all honesty though, it doesn't matter to me where we camp. I'm up for just about anywhere.
SandStallion 10-04-2007, 08:40 PM Good point. I forget not everyone can whip it out and whizz anywhere. My chick will appreciate the convenience of a portapotty close by too. So... How bout the last bathroom back, close to the corner of the fence by the whoop section?
Blueblood 10-04-2007, 11:15 PM hey so what would be a good time to meet up at the camp site . i dont want to get out there and everyone be out playing in the dunes.
P.S. not that my opinion matters because iam not camping out there, but closer to the beach would be cool my monster (son) likes to play in the water.
steveG 10-05-2007, 04:12 AM Don't worry Mike, I won't be playing on the dunes. :cry I decided to replace the engine in the Bronco and while it's out I might also tear down the front end to do some cleaning, painting, etc. Needless to say, it's going to be a while.
Back to camping. Since the date change the trip has kind of fallen apart. As far as I can see only BroncoD, SandStallion and my family and I are camping. Mike's in for the day and I don't know if Parish and Andy are still planning on coming out since there aren't going to be very many Broncos or toys in general out this trip. All this begs the question... Do you guys still want to do this? Or, should we hold out until the beginning of the year when more people, and trucks, can make it?
Brokenbronco 10-05-2007, 05:54 AM I vote for holding off till after the new year, That gives everyone a chance to fix thier rigs, and get time off to go.
ruthless69 10-05-2007, 12:56 PM As I indicated before, I won't be camping. But since I'm local to the dunes, you just say when I will most likely be there.
Set a date, time and where to meet and let the sand fall where it may! :thumbup
SandStallion 10-05-2007, 01:10 PM Might not be a bad idea to wait. I'm down for whatever though.
flyinbronco 10-05-2007, 04:11 PM Oh brother you guys are killing me.:smilie_slap
steveG 10-05-2007, 04:19 PM Oh brother you guys are killing me.:smilie_slap
Whatever Mr. Company Party! :goodfinge LOL
EDIT: So Rick, lets throw out some dates for early next year.
Blueblood 10-05-2007, 09:42 PM well i was looking forward to hanging and talking bronco's but either way. well steve if you need help on your rig let me know.
Andy351 10-06-2007, 04:58 PM Andy, yeah that's my bronc in the avatar. we've met before back in 2004 at the dunes. you were talkin me into SAS. :) but i obviously had something else in mind. your truck has changed quite a bit since i last saw it parked at the home depot - very cool truck. look forward to seeing you out there agin. :rockon
did your bronco used to be a different color? i remember meeting you, but could have sworn you had a red one. unless the red one was the one the chick following you was driving:rockon
does anyone know where to find the rules for the different classes? ie what constitutes a class 8, class 3 etc. i am unfamiliar with them
ruthless69 10-06-2007, 08:25 PM andy,
the bronco you saw back in 04 was my red 90.

Now it looks like this:

The one on the avatar is 96. That "chick" driving it is my wife with our 3 sons - they love the 90.
yikes 10-06-2007, 11:08 PM does anyone know where to find the rules for the different classes? ie what constitutes a class 8, class 3 etc. i am unfamiliar with them
Cam has the Class 3 rules (http://www.class3racing.com/showthread.php?t=1)posted at C3R. You'll have to purchase a rule book for the other classes. In short, Class 8 is open production full size utility vehicles, 2 or 4 wheel drive; wheelbase +/-2" of stock; factory engine type and location +/-1"(600-700hp motors can be built within the rules); factory frame; etc. I believe track width is open, but wheels/tirees have to tuck up inside the fenders.

hell yea:rockon
ruthless69 10-08-2007, 02:45 PM Just fyi -
was out at Pismo Dunes Sunday and cruised around the newly opened area. The back by the factory is still open (which I thought they usually close by now?) and there is much more area open at the end of the beach. :chili:
The sand is a weird mix of hard pack and silt. I can't say it's harder by the beach and more silt in the back because it is not - its a mix everywhere. :whiteflag
One moment you are speeding along at 60+mph on swishing sand, the next thing you know your molars are flying out of your mouth from the hard packed stuff. And since it has been windy, all the dust bowls are sharp on the tip which makes for launching jumps straight up, rather that straight out. :toothless
I've noticed the rangers are kicking people out of the area where there are still live shrubs and plants (even though that area is open). So stay out of there unless you plan to camp. They need to some porta johns out there.
The area along the fence by the beach is longer and a few shorcuts taken will give you a longer run at high speed. Ok, that's your current Pismo Dunes beach report - the weather is supposed to be moderately neato with a small chance of showers. Pack accordingly.:paper:
BroncoD 10-08-2007, 05:49 PM If there is only a few camping I think I'll hold off on the trailer. I think I'm camping the following weekend for sure as the races are then.:doh0715:
SandStallion 10-08-2007, 08:55 PM Well Ruthless pretty much summed the new beach conditions up perfect. Its also a little easier to get lost out there without the usual boundaries in position so... don't pull a me and haul ass when you "think" you know where you are. :) My dad was right. Thinkin hurts sometime.
Blueblood 10-14-2007, 12:42 PM this weekend would of been a good weekend to head out there i was out there on the beach at about 6 (PM) and left at about 7:30 (PM)and there was almost no one at the south end of the beach. oh well
ruthless69 10-14-2007, 01:26 PM Yeah, I was out there too and pretty much had the lay of the land to myself - a bit windy, but thanks to the wind and the rain the sand was great. Oh well, maybe next year?
tmwalmart 10-15-2007, 12:40 AM I was out there this weekend from Friday to today with quads. It rained on Friday but not til after we were able to go for a nice ride. Saturday was awesome except for when all the wind came in and tried to flatten my tent. lol At least it smoothed out the sand alot. Wish I could've stayed an extra day but I have class tomorrow morning. :banghead
I saw you out there, ruthless. Your bronco looks so awesome. :thumbup
steveG 10-15-2007, 04:01 AM I agree it would have been a good weekend. The family and I ended up going out there Saturday evening. We picked up dinner on the way out, ate on the beach next to a camp fire, roasted some marshmallows and played in the sand for a few hours. I would have invited you guys to join us, but it was a last minute decision.
It was a little windy when we first got there, but the evening weather was great.

For what it's worth, I was pretty bummed out about the trip falling apart. I had been looking forward to it. I hope everyone was ok with calling it off, I think I said what everyone was thinking when I suggested postponing.
When do you guys want to start planning for next year?
flyinbronco 10-15-2007, 11:08 AM I can't belive you all bailed on this trip. :smilie_slap
If I didn't have the company party to attend I would have been there. The party was fun though. It was casino night and my girl Amber beat em all in Texas holdem. Funny as hell.
Somebody start throwing out some dates for the next trip preferably after Jan.1st.
Blueblood 10-21-2007, 06:26 PM i am glad this trip that had been this weekend (19,20,21) was changed because it its been wind as hell and the race down didnt help.
ruthless69 10-21-2007, 11:51 PM I was there today (Sunday) and I have to say it was pretty nice - actually it was a bit hot (87 degrees) with a little wind. The sand was excellent!!!
I agree with not camping on that weekend though, pretty crowded - decent day trip though.
Sad news: There was a death at the dunes though - please keep this family in prayers as they mourn the death of thier 17 year old son - see news article: http://www.sanluisobispo.com/news/local/story/172238.html
steveG 10-22-2007, 12:23 AM I went out there today (Sunday) and had a good time. I watched the jet-ski competition for a bit then hung out with a few friends and watched the pro race at noon. I all but side-swiped Parish trying to get his attention but he totally snubbed me. Maybe he's ignoring me until I'm driving the Bronco again? :cry

haha, ya, he won't see you until your right up on him.;)
ruthless69 10-22-2007, 02:39 PM BroncoD and SteveG, sorry about that! :histerica
It's not intentional....when I'm driving I'm in the "zone". You pretty much have to wait for me to quit my run or drive right in front of me and wave like a madman. :wowcb:
BroncoD knows this firsthand! :toothless
Not that I'm clueless when driving, I'm just trying to find safe lines and keeping distance from other riders.
SteveG, what were you driving/riding? My cell phone came out of it's harness somewhere in the middle of it all and landed under my seat - good times! I did not notice you called until I was airing up on the way home - left you a VM.
Again, thanks for the laugh guys - have a great week! :rockon
