View Full Version : Stubbing Frames?

ok so I see that most people use the TTB front ends for this go fast stuff. My 79 obviously doesn't have that. My question is this. How hard do you think it would be to stub on a front frame section from a 1983 F250? None of the current suspension is there anyway. It has some jacked up leaf suspension.

I figured since it originally came with TTB(it was a 2wd), and has a 460/C6 combo in it, that it would be easy to pull my 460/C6/NP205, cut the frame right before the firewall on both trucks, and then graft the 83 front onto the 79 frame. Then I could find a 2wd TTB front end that would be easier to work with than a solid axle.

I'm just not familiar with how much of a difference there is between the 80+ frames and the 73-79 frames.

I'm not gonna tell you to not do it....but may I suggest this if you decide to undertake the task....

swap the entire frame rather than just the front...I think you'll be in for less work.

You have seen the Moss Brothers Go-Fast Class 3 Bronco correct....solid axle and all..Champions in Class for all of recent history (5 years+ IIRC)???

I agree with Tom. Also, a 2wd is not a ttb.

2wd is TIB Twin I Beam

4wd is TTB Twin Traction Beam

I always call it TTB. I meant just a beam front end.

It would be hard to swap the frame. I'd be going from a bronco frame to a Regular Cab Long Bed frame. I dunno. I'm gona go take some measurements today.

I always call it TTB.

Now you know better. Stop confusing us!

I think you're best off leaving the stock frame and building a custom front end. Seeing as how you plan on stretching the wheelbase 8-12 inches, no bolt-on kit is going to work anyway.

Well the H&M kit from what I've read is supposed to be a really great kit.

I just wanted something to get a foundation from. This would be my first ever go fast build. I come from a rock crawlin background so I'm still learning all this shit.

it would be eaiser to move a couple body mounts or make spacers.

I have seen it done many times on street rigs but I'm not sure I would recommend it for something that sees a lot of dirt. Or if you anticipate hammering it off road. Hey Fate, what's the reason you want to get rid of your solid axle? I have to admit, it would be interesting to see a Gen 2 body style Bronco with a TTB. Good luck in whatever route you take. Keep us posted.

The reasoning behind the solid axle removal is because I want more than just 12-15 inches of usable travel. Switching to a beam setup I can get up to most likely 25 inches of metal to metal contact I wanted.

When I finnally take the plunge and get everything swapped in I'll probably strap the front @ 18-20 inches and the rear @ the same. The rear I should have no problem pulling 18-20 with the 64" leaf kit. From what I've read and seen you can get up to about 22 inches of usable travel out of it.

I would say what everyone else would say about getting rid of the solid axle would be because of weight, but I don't give 2 shits about that. The D44 don't weigh a whole lot, and the original Dynatrac 60 I was going to swap in doesn't weight much more than the 44. I figure the pig is going to be heavy anyway. I'll just make up for it in power. Hell thats why I have a 557 going in it eventually.

I just want something I can drive on the street to work, take out and beat the shit out of it, and then I could drive it back to work on Monday.

There is just one thing contemplating me in the back of my head, and thats whether or not to tackle this myself or make a trip to the west coast.

Hey steve thanks for the advice you gave me on here and on Dezert Rangers. I've decided to go with a Threat Motorsports front end and swingset steering setup. Thanks again.
