What frontend do you have. The one with the welded c bushings brackets or the one that the c bushings are big cast peices that weld to the knuckles. hopefully the former. CrazyBRONCOguy 10-13-2007, 09:39 AM I'll have to look I do not know which C's it has on it. Were you planning to go over or under? ghglenn 10-13-2007, 07:55 PM Here's the Moss Bros. trussed d44. BEEFY:toothless http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/573509/fullsize/trussed-front1.jpg http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/573510/fullsize/trussed-front2.jpg http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/573511/fullsize/trussed-front3.jpg CrazyBRONCOguy 10-13-2007, 08:28 PM that one looks great. I see what you mean about the wedges now as that one had the cast ones instead of the welded ones correct? Brokenbronco 10-13-2007, 09:04 PM http://www.world-of-collectibles.com/images/advert/whereb.jpg Right Here! http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/573509/fullsize/trussed-front1.jpg http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/573510/fullsize/trussed-front2.jpg http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/573511/fullsize/trussed-front3.jpg mkiefer 10-14-2007, 12:42 PM Yes that one has the cast ends. Nice truss though. CrazyBRONCOguy 10-15-2007, 10:15 AM Mine has the Cast ends as well. Looked while i was cutting rust out of the floor today. I couldn't find any more info on that moss bros. truss unless i was looking in the completelly wrong places. It is looking like am I just going to make it. Ryan P. 10-15-2007, 01:17 PM Mine is much lower strength than the Moss Brothers! But then, I try not to get as airborne with my Brcono! http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/77188/fullsize/axletruss4.jpg Its just a 1/4" gusset with a 1" (or 1 1/4"?) 1/8" wall tube notched, beat, and welded on for rigidity, and as a round "break over" point for the axle bottom. CrazyBRONCOguy 10-15-2007, 01:44 PM that looks good but I think Mine will need to be beffier then that, somewhere in between yours and the one posted above. I do think going under will work good for me as it is soppose to be stronger and I don't mind the loss of ground clearance Archer66 10-17-2007, 08:42 PM Ok, this thread hits right where I needed. After the last trip to the dunes mine sits like this /---\ sad monkey. I was considering a 609 build but if I can truss the 44 that well... I already have a Sh** load of good internals in mine. I am thinking the Moss Brothers design would be the way to go, looks like if stock coils were to be run you would have to relocate the lower bucket. Perhaps to the truss plate. Has anyone got welding experience/advise for welding to the cast components? articles etc.?? moss2 10-17-2007, 10:20 PM Ok, this thread hits right where I needed. Has anyone got welding experience/advise for welding to the cast components? articles etc.?? No need to relocate spring mounting cup. It still mounts to the top of the radius arm. I think you are looking at the picks upside down. The truss is on the bottom. If you have it lifted a mile in the air and dont ever bottom it out you can think about putting it on top. We only have about 1/2" clearance to motor etc when bottomed. The cast ends and radius c mounts are all cast steel and weld fine with a little preheat. I dont know why everybody thinks they are junk we have never had a problem with that portion and thought it was stronger than just a piece of tube. The center pumpkin and where the tubes attach to it are the weak spots. If it is already pigeon toed check the long axle for straightness when you pull it. Archer66 10-18-2007, 01:31 AM Thanks Moss2 I was looking at it backwards... normal for me. Looks like 5/16 plate that you are using? In the jig pictured are the end pieces cut from the table to free the housing? Are you doing anything to stress relieve the weldment when complete? IE heating the entire assembly and then allowin' it to air cool. Thanks for the feedback. I've already invested in chrome shafts , CTM's and Detroit electrac etc so if I can make the 44 live that would be my preference. And I'll give the long shaft a hard look, thanks. CrazyBRONCOguy 10-18-2007, 10:39 AM Moss2- do you sell a kit to do this? I would be interested in that. I would just have you do it, but shipping it from here to you guys and back would be expensive. But If I could get the premade peices I could weld it up easy enough. Though I'd have to make a jig like you got there but that's no big deal yikesbb 10-18-2007, 11:17 AM Has anyone got welding experience/advise for welding to the cast components? articles etc.?? If you haven't yet, go to www.offroadfabnet.com. Great resource for this sort of thing. Archer66 10-18-2007, 11:33 AM If you haven't yet, go to www.offroadfabnet.com. Great resource for this sort of thing. Good source Yikes, Thanks. ghglenn 10-18-2007, 01:31 PM Crazybroncoguy, you need to hook up with a local fab/welder guy and take pics/ideas and axle housing to him. That truss looks to be one off, made of plate and some creativity. CrazyBRONCOguy 10-18-2007, 07:02 PM I could make the pieces but thought i would ask if they were avaible. Doesn't look to complicated but I am sure I am not seeing everything they did on that one. ToddACimer 10-18-2007, 07:34 PM why would they truss it on the bottom? CrazyBRONCOguy 10-18-2007, 10:33 PM They said on extreme (not that they know anything) that it is harder to rip the steel then to wad it up. So if your jumping all the time it is better to go on the bottom. yikesbb 10-18-2007, 11:03 PM why would they truss it on the bottom? Read post #12. Check out this thread (http://www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/showthread.php?t=104711)too. ToddACimer 10-18-2007, 11:07 PM I missed the 1/2" clearance is there any pics of the completed truck floating around? yikesbb 10-18-2007, 11:13 PM I missed the 1/2" clearance is there any pics of the completed truck floating around? ...or flying around. :histerica Yeah, check out this thread (http://www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95593). Note the number 300 on the door. Moss Bros have been SCORE class champs 5 years running. ToddACimer 10-18-2007, 11:24 PM I like that full droop pic. Would have been cool to see a pic of the landing http://www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=4849&stc=1&d=1179167038 |
