I am not sure if there is a sensor or something. If the truck is in park all lights come on but it will not start. I have to put in nuetral to start. Why is this?

not sure if you have one but check the neutral safety switch...it would be bolted on the side of the trans where the shifter is attached.

The NS switch is the problem. Might need to be adjusted or changed.

Mine does that some times also. Itll crank in park and stop suddenly like it hung up. Putter in neutral and will crank fine. Mines finicky like that.

so after almost getting ran over by my own truck I cant figure out what to do with the NS switch. I know I can just put it in neutral to start it, but if it as easy as I thought it would be I would love to fix it. What do I do with the switch?

1. read the instructions
2. get a buddy to sit in the truck
3. use a drill bit or scribe or whatever to line it up right

i just did mine and the hardest part was routing the wire harness to the conector on the firewall. its pretty easy

I adjusted mine, then after a few days it stopped starting in park again. I just went to my parts store and just got a new one, no problems since...very easy to install. I think it was around $40 though.

the neutral safety switch also controls the backup lights.

donohoe, sounds like your switch is going out

nascar88 is on the drivers side where the shifter linkage is hooke up and the wireharness goes yo to the firewall on the pass side
