i am about to purchase a new sony marine head unit for the heep (cdx-h905ip).

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v99/jackhart/misc%202/p158H905iP-f-1.jpg

however, i am getting conflicting info about the appropriate sirius tuner to use with it. i called sirius and they ultimately referred me to some of their retailers. they were absolutely clueless about what to use, i called three separate times and got three different answers.

one of the retailers is crutchfield, who told me the old tuner, model sir-sny1, is discontinued and they are waiting for a new sony compatible tuner, but have no clue when it might come out. they said if i could find the old tuner it should "probably" work with the new head unit.

i called sony and they said the old sirius tuner "should" work, but i've read online about people having issues with it working.

any suggestions or anyone using that model sirius tuner?

I don't have any specific info for you, but I'd wait for the new tuner if it isn't going to be a ridiculously long time before they're released. Do you have an idea of how long the wait will be?

EDIT: BTW Jack, if you are getting rid of the factory sub, I'm very interested. Mine died, and the radio's not quite the same without it :toothless

EDIT2: Say, this thing looks pretty sharp (http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=221050&i=158H905IP&tp=1721); does it properly fit in the factory hole with no mods?

I was in a similar situation, from what the people at Crutchfield told me, it wasn't a good idea to use the old tuner. I also read a lot online about people having problems with it.

My solution:

I put the sony in the other truck and purchased a new alpine HU along with the sirius alpine tuner. Works great. The Alpine unit I have controls everything through the HU so I just stashed the alpine tuner and sirius receiver in the glovebox.

I think Kenwood makes a marine HU and I also think they have a sirius tuner that allows you to control it through the HU.

edit:
That unit does look pretty cool

Unless you have your heart set on the sony, here is an equally priced Marine Alpine and the sirius tuner:

I personally can't stand Alpine HU's because of how complicated the controls are. They drive me insane!

Here are the dimensions

Dimensions: The receiver has the following dimensions:

* Chassis Width: 7.097"
* Chassis Height: 2.029"
* Chassis Depth: 5.962"
* Nose Width: 7.773"
* Nose Height: 3.576"
* Nose Depth: 1.892"

Screw Hole Pattern: The faceplate has four mounting holes across the top, above the chassis, and two holes below the chassis for securing the unit to the bulkhead. The screw hole spacing is as follows:

* Top Row:
o Total Width: 6.085"
o Width Between Two Center Holes: 2.868"
o Width Between End Holes and Adjacent Center Holes: Left= 1.675", Right=1.542"
* Bottom Row Width: 5.044"
* Height (Between Top and Bottom Rows): 2.527" and 2.577"

I want that radio for the Bronco so bad. I've been waiting for my stereo in the Bronco to die.

I'll admit, my Alpine took some getting used to, but I love it now.

The problem with Crutchfield is they will tell you some certain HU's won't fit the dash, yet they will. They say it won't because it's too deep. When I inquired once about how much too deep one was...5/1000ths of an inch. yes, 5/1000ths. I said hell, that's virtually nothing. They told me yeah but some people don't want to modify their dash. I just laughed.

hopper, pm sent about the sub.

i doubt it fits exactly, but there is a dash kit for it. i have stang to thank for showing me this unit (well, this is the newer version of the unit he showed me, it's got a better ipod connection). i really have my heart set on this particular unit right now. it is just so different looking, i really like it. i've had alpines before, i like them alot, but never a sony head unit. i just think this will look better, especially since it isn't a DIN unit.

the problem is, no one is able to tell me how long the wait is for the new tuner. so i am tempted to just buy the old tuner and go with it, i spoke to an installer today who told me if i can find the old one, get it, it will definitely work.

well if you are going to use the head unit controlled tuner then I do not see any reason why the old one won't work.

If you aren't are hell bent on running Sony (I personally don't like their car audio) Kenwood's stuff is really good.

No offense, but do you have a reason or are you just on the "i hate sony bandwagon" Just curious. I hear SO many people say "i hate sony" but in the same sentence will praise alpine.

Just wondering. I've always run Sony and have installed them in MANY vehicles and love them. Good price, great quality, and awesome sound.

I don't hate Sony, I love their products...just not a fan of the car audio. Had some speakers of theirs that the cone seperated from it. (all four of them did it) Plus the red is just hideous....but I have given plenty of money to Sony (just my PS3 alone), and back many of their products...but car audio..I just dont like it, several experiences with sony car audio products, as turned me away from it.

And I don't like Alpine either. After seeing the trouble my brother had with his Alpine deck, and the fact they just don't look good, I wouldn't pay the high Alpine price.

Personally from my experience, I like Kenwood stuff. Through the many decks I have had, they have repeatedly been the best quality, best looking, and ease of use ones. Speakers have been good. But I will say I am a fan of Visonik when it comes to amps and subs.

I've had the opposite experience, I've only had 1 kenwood deck, and it was the only one of the many other brands I've had to give me any trouble. Was one of the ones in the late 90's with the motorized faceplate. After about 8 months of normal use it was FUBAR.

I've had good luck with Sony Head Units....I've burned up a few sony amps though so I don't go with them for Amps.

For decks I like Alpine and Pioneer Premier. For speakers it is all about Memphis, Infinity, and Boston. I don't have a preference with amps, usually depends on what I can get the best price on.

The last Kenwood I had (before I upgraded) was a motorized faceplate....The year it was in my truck it ran good. One before that survived my submarine reenactment.

I'll admit, I don't like their car audio speakers, subs, or amps. I think that their head units though are awesome. I'm all about them.

I personally love JL Audio's components etc. They make a great product. :thumbup

Hit menu, scroll through to "clock" then press "enter". From there you can use the control to change the time. Once changed, press "enter" again.

For the presets, select your desired channel, then just hold down the button that you want that channel set to. Hold it for about 3-5 seconds and you will hear a "beep" from the deck.

You can make the clock show up as well. Go to menu and select "D. Info" to "on". Once you do that, the clock will come up at least occasionally if not full time depending on what HU you have.

if you get lost let me know. I did that form memory so it might not be completely right. What HU do you have?
