View Full Version : Howdy.. picked up bronco for $300
helpcomputer 03-31-2008, 01:52 AM My brother and I just picked up an '87 grey FSB, 96k miles for 300 bucks. new tires, no rear quarter rust whatsoever, front fenders are discolored and have quite a bit of surface rust.. bumpers good, runs fairly decent, im sure it needs a tuneup, a fuel filter and some seafoam. back seat is good, headliner, carpet and front driver seat is destroyed. Rear window glass works correctly from the dash, but probably needs a new key solenoid(?) on the tailgate. tailgate is in pretty bad shape as well. few dents and gauges around the body, nothing some bondo cant fix. haven't really gotten the chance to check under the hood, brother is hiding it from his wife in the backyard :thumbup
will try to get pictures and more info when i can. i'm a FSC owner, is there a label somewhere on the vehicle with the production codes of the options and equipment it came with?
thanks, and great site!

helpcomputer 03-31-2008, 04:15 AM Just remembered it is an XLT, and 4wd on the floor. what is the most likely engine/trans/equipment combo in this truck? it's at my brothers place over in jersey so i doubt either of us will have time to look at it when the wife isnt around until the weekend. ill see if he can snap some pics for me, its crammed in a carport with numerous other 'toys' as well, so not much room for good pics. nonetheless pics definitely by next weekend.
BIGT2317 03-31-2008, 09:43 AM Welcme to the site. The engine is probably a 302 w/ the AOD auto trans, NP 208 transfer case, and 8.8 rear end. Look up the vin and it will tell you a lot about the truck.
uncle.stosh 03-31-2008, 10:01 AM I wish I could find a Bronco for $300, and a solid one too? Nice find.

I'm not too sure on it having that t-case? Maybe.
If it has a 351 it will be carbed and the transmisison will be a c6 auto.
if it is a 302, it will be efi, and have a AOD transmission w/ overdrive.
if it is a 300, it will have a c6 transmission, and i'm not sure when they changed over to efi.
Look on the door sticker, if the code under AXLE has a number and a letter it is limited slip.
zmonster72 03-31-2008, 07:01 PM I recently aquired a 1984 Bronco with a 300 six banger and a stick for $400. It has the typical rust but not to worried about that as I plan to enjoy southern Utah in it. My question is should I bother trying to rebuild the 300 or bump up to a 302 or 351? And if I do, will i need a new tranny? I plan on putting a 6 inch lift on it and some bigger meats, but as this is my first off road rig, I kinda wanna do it right and still save a little money in the process.

What transfer case is in those? I have an 82 in my driveway that I know nothing about.
Great find and....
