1989 Ford Ranger 2.9 131xxx miles. 6in lift. 33's and 3.55 gears

He stopped driving it one day about 5 months ago because it all of a sudden didn't have any power after he went on a midnight ramble with a few buddies a few cities over. Brought it back home and the next day couldn't seem to get 3000 R.P.M out of it no matter what we did. So he quit driving it. I know a timing bump will help it out a little bit that's cheating and I really don't wanna have to do it. I've got a few things in mind but its gotta be almost cost defective, because my parents are getting tired of putting money in it.

Had a 302 in our hands but we were 15 minutes late with the money and the guy sold it. 100 bucks to.

He doesn't have a good job, probably makes 150 every two weeks, but he doesn't want to get up to look for one..go figure.

Distributor Cap/Rotor, Plugs and Wires, Ignition Module, Oil and Filter change were done today.

I'll try to answer any other question as good as I can. He just asked our mom to buy him another part just two seconds ago.

Tell him to man up, get a real job, save up some $$$, and regear those axles to like 4.56, instead of killing the engine & trans trying to turn 33" tires with that puny motor. Probably too late for the motor anyway. You also didnt say if it was a stick or auto? The autos that came in those trucks sucked, so mebbe theres something wrong with that, altho i still think its an internal engine problem.

IMO, junk it, tell him to 'Get a job ya bum' and then he can buy/fix his own beater. But then, i have no patience for moochers like that.

Yea, we've been telling him to get another job for the past couple of years, he's so lazy you wouldn't believe it. I think the problem is something internally in the motor, because a friend of mine had the same truck with a 2.9, 35's with no lift or gears, cut out fenders and it ran really well. Its got a manual trans.
