I was thinking of getting some 1/4 inch sheets of rubber and trying to construct something that would contain my engine compartment(at least the bottom and the wheel wells) so that when mudding you don't have that damn horrible task of cleaning the engine off. I know it would still come through the radiator, but maybe it would help. Something that could be taken on and off fairly quickly. Anybody ever done this?

Nope but good idea. I was told once to spray some WD-40 on the undercarriage....Although that would be time consumming and over time very costly

I have seen a few trucks hang rubber from the front bumper, when you go through the mud it pushes back under the truck and keeps most of the mud out...

Go to a tire store, and ask for some old, huge tubes. Even one for a 24" wheel will be enough. Then, go to a hobby store, pick up yourself a couple packages of heavy duty snaps - see where I'm going with this? When the rubber is snapped into place, make sure it's tight, but not so tight that it puts obvious strain on the snaps themselves. You don't need to cover the whole engine - not a good idea too, anyway - you just need to cover the space between the inner fenders and frame, and below the radiator to the crossmember

couldn't you use magnets? It would be easier than snaps... :?:

i dont see why not but if they are not strong enough yoiu would lose them when wheeling

this last weekend i made a sheild/splash gaurd, what ever you want to call it. made it outta 22 ga. sheetmetal. folded the ends nicely so there are no sharp edges. it is bolted to the frame just below the radiator, and goes all the way back the the cross member. pretty easy to get on and off. its reinforced so it should take a beating. i made it to fit tight, and it covers everything well. i dont know how well its gonna work, but i'll try to get some pics on my superford page for ya.

have a beer on me, glad to see how well this site is forming!!!

I would be worried about air flow. When mudding you need all the air flow you can get.
