View Full Version : Moab trip Feb 21-22
TTBlows 02-06-2004, 01:49 PM This will be an easy camping trip in a top-secret location around Moab :toothless
Seriously tho, anyone is welcome, a stock Bronco will do fine. This is just a get-away-from-it-all trip for me. It will not be gnarly, hard core, sick or otherwise bodacious.
What it will be is fun, relaxed, easy with beautiful views. Just a chance to get out.
We'll meet at Road 211 south of Moab on Hwy 191. Time not yet determined. If you're interested post up and we'll firm up details.
So far we've got myself, Beerman and Dangling Dave
EDIT: this is a somewhat remote location, and will be primitive camping. A reliable vehicle is recommended.
Dangling_Dave 02-06-2004, 05:29 PM Come-on chickins If I go then everyone should go.
OldBlue 02-07-2004, 01:52 AM if you knew how much know we have youd wait :-D

broncojared 02-08-2004, 11:57 PM Love to go but i am just at the roots of the frame up on my freshly crashed 96 bronco. want to help me find parts like 8" sky coils and sky extreme drop pitman arm i could maybe make it.
Rick3373 02-09-2004, 01:16 AM Sounds interesting. But I'd expect some snow & ice out there, maybe quite a lot. I'd go but I can't really afford it right now.
Dustin 02-10-2004, 10:19 PM oh god damit!, I want to go but want to put my bronco in 4wd if Im going to drive 7hours.
we need to plan a run again for the spring, when it gets a bit warmer. Even if its just a couple people it would be cool, the group we had when I went up there was awsome. Im having some seroius DTs and I need to get up there again asap!
BoulderBronco 02-10-2004, 10:23 PM You all know I would go if I were out there. Damn I am stuck on the east coast for another two months. :banghead Have fun :goodfinge

Stuck on the right coast for another two months??? Why would anyone stay on the east coast for two months? What are you carving your new engine out by hand?

I have a number of snowplowing contracts that naturally last all winter. So I need to stay around to honor those. It's excellent $$. When it snows that is. I'll be out soon enough and we'll hit some trails.
Dustin 02-11-2004, 07:24 PM Im in the phx metro area.....there are tons of trails around here. let me know and we can plan a run.

Little too far for me in Feb to go camping. The wife and I were talking about Moab in the late spring, so post up a thread if there is a group wanting to go then...
A buddy of mine and I are planning on playing on the north side of the Kingston Peak area either 2/21 or 2/22 for a half day if anyone else has the itch to dirty up their truck but can't make the Moab trip. It's about 20 min outside of Blackhawk, so not a long drive.... He'll have his Chevy PU and I'll have my Bronco to pull him out :goodfinge should be some good snow and mud!
godless 02-12-2004, 04:22 PM Yup, I am going also.
Hey its like a 4-5 hour trip for me but I am so ready to get away from the SLC
shithole I could scream.
Plus its an excuse to get drunk and pass out on the red dirt!
So we got Keith and Tanya, Dave and ?, and myself.
Come on pussies, put a coat on and come!
godless 02-12-2004, 07:08 PM Shit Keith I hope we dont plan on going on Rusty Nail, there is still a butt load of snow up there.
I just saw pics on the RME board from when a few guys went on the 8th.
Dustin 02-12-2004, 11:17 PM when does it start getting warm up there? April-May?
Dangling_Dave 02-13-2004, 12:17 PM I was there in March last year and the weather was great.

godless 02-13-2004, 05:04 PM If she doesnt, then i am riding shotgun in your rig. Dont want to take a chance beating up Keith work before the axle is on. LOL.
Shadofax 02-15-2004, 12:31 PM Well, if the spring trip gets planned with a bit more advance notice, this is something I would be interested in. Just need the time to plan the trip seeing as it's 1100 miles or so down there. This type of trip would be great though, mild/moderate wheelin' so I don't have to worry about how beat up the truck will be for the drive back.
Anyway, have fun
Drink Beer :beer
TTBlows 02-15-2004, 01:13 PM Well, the time draws closer. Let's say 10am at the intersection of roads 191 and 211. CB channel 10
I think we'll end up in camp early, which is fine with me. I'd love to get there a few hours before dark and have time to just relax, drink a beer and set up camp.
And things might be looking up; they're calling for warmer temps (nearly 50) over there throughout the week. They are forecasting a storm Sunday, but that's WAY too far out to be accurate. I never put stock in the forecast until 24 hours prior.
OldBlue 02-15-2004, 03:51 PM I wish I could make it down but I work from 2-10 on the 21st but have the 22nd off.
godless 02-16-2004, 12:52 AM Keith, I dont have a map in hand yet, but where abouts is that?
DO I pass that on my way through Moab on my way to yoru house?
Rick3373 02-17-2004, 08:41 PM It's roughly 40 miles south of Moab, the turnoff to go to the Needles District of Canyonlands NP.
TTBlows 02-18-2004, 12:20 PM Well, it's should be good over there. Tanya and I went over President's Day to ride our road bikes thru the Needles District.
Southern exposure is good:

North face has a bit more snow, but nothing to worry about:

Tanya with the Needles in the background:

Myself, note the contrast between the slickrock and the La Sals:

In order to be cool and gnarly (be sure to pronounce the "G", that's guh-narlee, if you want to be cool like me) we rode several miles of dirt road on our road bikes to get to the base of Elephant Hill. Here Tanya expresses her opinion on the NPS's no pets policy (that'd be the small sign behind her finger)
