:thumbup hey guys

I bought some parts from andrew (bones033). Specifically I bought the rear alcan springs, front superflex springs, and cage extended radius arms.:chili:

Do you guys think the install can be done in a day? I dunno if I bit off more than I can chew but I'm hoping I can tackle the install myself. Andrew was willing to lend a hand but his back gave out (ouch). What kind of tools do ya think I will need? I have some tools including a compressor and some air tools including an impact wrench. Any special tools I might need? Any tips you guys might have?

I was looking to go to wheeler lake on Sunday August 24 with some guys from work (jeepers). You guys feel like heading up!:beer

It's way too hard for you to do!! Dont even try!! I will give ya 100 bux for everything and you pay shipping, and you can thank me later...

Its not that hard if you have all the right tools and TALL jack stands. Air tools also speed things up. And a 1/2'' step bit for drilling the holes in the frame for the radius arm brackets. But yes you should be able to do it in a day. Make sure you look at alot of threads here so you can see what needs to be done and whats the best order to do things in and it will speed the job up!
Good Luck...

If you're wanting to go wheeling on the 24th I'd avoid doing this. That will put you rushing things.

You need new rear U bolts, the front springs will go in easily (or should having no idea what your setup is currently), and the cage arms are long enough where it may require a new tranny crossmember. You also need new C bushings most likely. Doing this by yourself will make matters worse if that's your plan. way better to have an extra body there, especially if trying to do this in one day.

thanks for the tips guys...I'll prolly need some tall jack stands for sure..(harbor freight ok?). Are ubolts and c bushings something I can get locally (maybe 4wheelparts) or are they special order.

Your right about rushing things shadow..prolly have to hold off on the trip:cry

I haven't been wheeling at all this year just itchin to get out there.

Driveline specialty is Colo Springs, Or any driveline/axle shop will normally carry a variety of u bolts in stock. The stupid things break and get cut off by idiot "customizers" all the time. shouldn't be hard to find though. Stay away from 4wheel parts they will order it in, get the wrong one, order it again, wrong again, order it again.........and so on. Idiots! Sorry I had too many really bad experiences with them

with the front axle dropped I would think the coil would be easy to slide in.

sampsin - Where abouts are you I would be willing to lend a hand as well. Bummer about wheeler it is a fun trail, but a long way from here.

They are (easy to slide in) if you have the front jacked up nice and high. Plus I think Andrew was running the 4" superflex coil (shorter)? I put my 6" ones in with no coil spring compressor, but....if needed I have them.

I swear you have all those expensive tools that make life SOOOOO much easier. We are going to have to keep you around.

And remind me next time I head over to the library to bring back your spindle wrench.

thanks for the offers to help.:whiteflag I will need it. I usually work on my truck myself :muscle071 and occasionaly my wife will come out and lend a hand. This job is a bit out of my comfort zone and don't think it can be done without an extra set of hands.

Wish I lived up north with you guys:duh....Unfortunately I live in denver close to I225 and I70.

I'm going to pick up the parts from Andrew tonight and then go from there.:D

edit:the coils and the leafs are the 4" and I believe that is exactly what I have on there now.(except I have add a leaf and block in the back)

its pretty simple. only thing is if your rear shackles have never came apart that will be a major pita. mine had only been together about 10 yrs and i had to cut em apart. otherwise its a simple job. I did my radius arms and springs in a day and a half with me and a friend.

rob...questions about your extended radius arms..

What did you do for the mounting location on the drivers side? It looks like the transfer case mount will interfere with the radius arm bracket.

Also what did you do for the mounts themselves? I already have brackets to the frame with these cage arms and was wondering what you did to support the tranny crossmember since the stock mounts they also help support the tranny crossmember.
I went to the junkyard (pull n save) and grabbed the brackets of a 79 F250 with front leaf springs. It looks like these will fit.

Also I take it that the stock transfer skid plate will not work?

Here's what I did so far..

1.Picked up parts last night. Cage arms, front coils, rear leafs
2.Grabbed a set of taller jack stands from harbor freight.
-----they didn't have the coil spring compressor---
3.Grabbed some PB Blaster and started spraying all the bolts.
4.Went to junkyard and grabbed some tranny crossmember brackets of a leaf sprung 79 F250.
5.Did some searching on how to do all this.
---Anybody know of a good writeup on cage arms install...leaf spring install...coil spring install?

thanks sam

For my set-up i used the factory brackets. My radius arms use the factory bushings on the back. For the tranny cross member i just cut some 1/4" plate and bent it to fit.

For the skid plate I had to build something that would hold the radius arm brackets too. It's all 1/4" plate.

thx for the pics..it definately helps..

you got skills!

Did your rocksliders interfere with your extended radius arms? I just got my rocksliders put on after a hella trouble and I'm hoping that I don't have to mess with em again...of course it's always something right !!??

nope. my sliders clear all. the exhaust was built to be on top of them as well. It's a tight fit but its in there. My radius arms are gonna come off again sometime this winter and get johnny joints put on the ends. Or I'll go cage and give these to my dad for his 74.
