bronc_17113 08-24-2008, 06:56 AM man if i didnt have to work tommorrow nite i would be all over it
sampsin 08-25-2008, 12:26 AM Well I made it back in one piece:rockon...
It was a blast and me and my daughter had a great time:thumbup
I attempted this run 3 years ago with ZOZO (rob) his dad & Boulder bronc. Unfortunately that year it was totally snowed in at the top and I only made it to the base of bowling ball hill. This year we made it all the way to the top. Overall the bronco did good..I had a few carb issues that went away as soon as I turned the idle up a bit (unfortunately I didnt do this till I was at base of bowling ball hill). I still need to dial this thing in right. I would have liked to have the cage arms and superflex springs in though fer sure.
I was the only non-jeep, fullsize, carbed truck in the group. The cherokeeish xj yj fj lj mj jeeps (I don't know what any of those jeep designations mean):duh were locked front and rear. The wrangler and the comanche were open. I was hoping some of my fullsize brothers would show up so I wouldn't feel outa place:smilie_slap I think it's a little different wheeling this full size rigz.
Here are some pics my daughter took http://www.supermotors.net/vehicles/registry/8876/65850-2
Hefty 08-25-2008, 12:44 AM Looks like you had a good run. It was the perfect day for it too. I wish mine wasn't undergoing minor surgery so that I could have made it along.

Not yet. Still can't decide whether to keep my stock axles or just buy bigger 1tons don't want to throw away any money that I don't have to. I should have all of that done by spring though.
bronc_17113 08-25-2008, 07:16 PM 1 tons all the way if u can afford em or smaller tires
Wheeler lake is on my to-do list for next summer. Hopefully i'll have a few more things sorted out and an EFI set-up and the 4 speed in.
This is one of my favorite trails. some of the best views around.
Hefty 08-25-2008, 09:38 PM 1 tons all the way if u can afford em or smaller tires
I'm thinking 1tons cause smaller tires are out of the question. It is rather difficult to run trails like Holy Cross on anything less than 38's. Im actually looking at going up to 40-42's eventually. But these tire's won't fit (rim size) on the 1 tons and they are basically brand new. I was hoping to wear them out before I did the axle swap but broken parts have me thinking twice about that.
bronc_17113 08-25-2008, 09:51 PM look at a locker and u would be surprised what u can do with smaller tires(not that I would want to go smaller if i was u), what gears are you running?
Hefty 08-25-2008, 10:11 PM 4.56 right now. I havent gotten stuck yet without the lockers and I've been running this set up with 35's for about ten years. just put the 38's on last month and bang broke the front axle 1st trip out. I was waiting for it to happen just happened faster than I thought.
bronc_17113 08-25-2008, 10:13 PM ok well at least ur running fairly good gearing. you could upgrade your axles but to do it right it would cost you almost as much as putting a d60 in there
Hefty 08-25-2008, 10:22 PM Thats what I figured but I'm thinking that I can build a very strong 44 but I'm not sure I can build one that is strong enough
bronc_17113 08-25-2008, 10:26 PM You can build one strong enough for 38's but you are going to break things if you lock it
Hefty 08-25-2008, 11:04 PM Yeah I'm probably just going to put a 60 up front. Just looking for a good deal right now.
Just a light foot on the throttle and the 44 should hold up ok. I have been running 37's for 4.5years and haven't broke anything yet.(knocks on wood) I am still running stock shafts and u joints. I just try not to spin the tires too much. Only locked in the rear tho. 4.10 gears too so its ever harder.
Hefty 08-25-2008, 11:20 PM Yeah the shafts and ujoints were original so I may try and replace them and maybe go with a LS upfront first just to see how it goes. If I break again maybe full replacement. I'm not a throttle junky and tend to find a way up any obsticle without punching it to hard. We'll see. Gotta atleast get it fixed in the meantime I don't want to miss out on the rest of the season.
