Was helping a friend demolish a building today, and saw this sitting over in the corner.

It's a Circa 1922 Walker Model 740 Roll-A-Car 2 1/2 ton mechanical floor jack in really nice useable condition.

That is pretty damn cool. Are you going to keep it? I know I would.

I'm not sure. I have way too much stuff the way it is, and it is pretty big.

I was hoping that maybe one of the local antique or historic car museums would be interested in it.

My dad has one that is a bit larger and from around that era. It looks quite different from what you have, but still looks like a floor jack and it's mechanical. It still works quite well.

Clean and paint it in original colors and then a musuem will want it........however by then you'll want to keep it.

I'm looking at the same dilemena with a 40's era gas pump. I want to restore and keep it but facing a serious space shortage right now.

Keep it!! I guarantee none of your hydraulic jacks will be around in 80 years.

I'd restore it. That would be the cats ass.

I've got an engine hoist my grandpa built in welding class in high school in 1937 and I still am using it. Of course the hudraulics have been replaced since then but everything else is original

I think if you're serious about donating it then you should take a little time and research it first. How many times have you seen "pawn stars" ( for those who don't know, it's a pawn shop tv show) and someone kills the value of an item because they try to paint, polish, or buff it out to make it look better. Then they find out it was worth 10 times as much if they had just left it alone to begin with, without all the effort....:doh0715:
Maybe call a few museums or a couple pawn shops to find out the skinny on that thing. Either way, I think it's "Bad Ass." If I had it, I would Chrome the whole damn thing, do the entire garage floor in Black & White squares, and stick it in the corner as a conversation piece...:thumbup -Kevin-
