Well the past wekk has been one from Heck... for the truck side of the story.... i was driving in the rain from college station heading towards Lubbock to came back to school yesterday and i see the worlds largest cloud of smoke...and its coming form my truck. so i pull it over stop it and pull out the good ole fire extinguisher and pop the hood... on the way to the hood i look down and see all of this fluid pouring out to the ground and think great there goes the motor...i pop the hood to put out the fire and there isnt one just smoke from steaming fluids...

my 1st thought is that i trashed the rear main seal and the motor is gonna be Kaput... so i call a wrecker and have it towed....
the wrecker comes with a flatbed and loads it up and says he thinks that the crank is trashed because the front pully looks like it is pointed up so i think great i broke a crank oh well i have a new motor waiting to go in..
everything is fine i get home after hanging out at Baylor and then TAMU and fly out the next day while the truck sits in Waco Tx... i live in Spring and goto school in Lubbock... i get to school today after flying in to the snow and 19 degree weather, pops calls me and says that its the tranny... he says that he is watching it pour its guts out on to the gooseneck that he and a friend brought up to haul it home... so question is? do i need a better tranny rebuilder cause he cant rebuild fo nizzle...its the 3rd time hes had it and it dont seem to like him for some reason... or is it time to swap the ZF5 into The Beast for the 393W swap 1st thing this summer????

If you're looking to keep the E4OD, I would definitely find somewhere/someone else to rebuild that tranny. E4ODs are not the world's greatest transmissions by anymeans, but they are strong in their own right when built right. This is not to say that I'm against the swapping in of the ZF tranny either, it will allow better power transfer with your new engine than what the E4OD will. It's your time and money and the decision is up to you.

i say go with the ZF, it will be cheaper for you and it will be stronger also.

After an 84 with C6 rolled totalled, I chose a 90 with mazda 5spd and swapped in a ZF, no more tranny troubles, no trouble with C6, but I like shifting and better engine braking. It is personal preference, drive one if you can. ZF is strong, Granny plus overdrive! With a blown 302, I could spin the stock clutch, very similar in power to your 393 in power. Cooked flywheel! I am going with a Centerforce II pressure plate and clutch disk with new stroked, blown, bored to 349, engine. If the clutch don't hold, then I go with dual friction clutch disk.
Good luck with it! Lubbock is my birth place.

Blue, If your gonna do the install yourself and are gonna keep the E4OD, May I suggest to try a Jet Tranny for almost the price of a rebuilt....Just slightly higher but with better and stronger clutches and pinions....Just My .02

Ditto... what was the thing that you were selling from B&M for the tranny AC? oh the Tranny shop is paying for the rebuild too so i am happier now...
