Hi. I just recently finished installing a new engine in my truck after flooding the last one last January. By the time I finally got to the point of starting the engine, I ended up with a wire fire under my dash. The wire that caught fire was the resistor wire in the Painless Products harness that goes from the ignition switch through the fuse block to the coil. The wire was only burning in the resistor portion, not in the part that was regular wire. After determining where the wire went, I checked the coil and found some rust on the posts where the wires connect to as well as in the part where the wire to the distributor goes. Is the coil likely to be the cause of my fire or am I going to have to dig deeper into the wires to find the cause of my problems? Thanks.

Personaly I think you had a short somewhere else. I don't see how the coil would cause it. But I could be wrong as I usually am.

But hey, good to hear from you again!

Been busy lately. Had no idea this site even existed until I got an e-mail from someone about it after I asked this question in a couple of other places. I guess I should finish tracing those wires now to find the problem. Thanks.

Well, I finished tracing the wires and found two pinched wires, one of which is the one that caught fire. Looks like I'll fix them tomorrow and try to start the new engine again.

Good to be back and have some free time again. Thanks.

Alright, heres an update for ya Dave. Since I'm finishing my bachelors degree I haven't had much time in the past year to work on the bronco. It does have fuel injection now, and then it sat for a while after that upgrade. Then I got the engine flooded with muddy water the first time out. It sat for a few more months then. In January I finally had some time to swap the engine out, but then it got too cold to work outside. I had my hand operated on again soon after and now after 2 years have full use of my right hand again. A few weeks ago it got nice and I finished all the loose ends and had a fire when I tried to start the engine. Now I know my problem but it got pretty cold again tonight for the next few days, so hopefully soon I can drive it for the first time in 1.5 years. If not, I may have to start taking the new toy, an F-250, into the mud. Later.
