IIISLACKERIII 02-10-2009, 12:43 AM ok my friend got another P.O.S bronco 2, this is the second, and we wanted to try to do a S.A.S on it b/c we broke the yoke sunday out in the fields...the truck was free but with the broke yoke its useless...do u guys think it would be better to replace the TTB yoke or swap the hole think to the d30(thats what we have not going a D44 b/c...well its a bronco II, enought said)...and yes i see that the site is called fullsizebronco but still,it aint from china.
rhauf 02-10-2009, 12:46 AM the bronco 2's front end is a dana 30, so another dana 30 will snap the yoke just as easily as the TTB dana 30... being solid doesnt magically make the same identical parts stronger. replace the yoke, or upgrade it at least to a dana 35 (the explorer TTB is pretty much a bolt in)
reptillikus 02-10-2009, 09:41 AM Bronco IIs have a Dana 28 front-end, not a 30.
But yeah, the 30 really isnt much stronger, just one less ujoint.
Shadofax 02-10-2009, 10:16 AM just fix what's there unless you want to go to all the effort of ripping stuff out and puting something else in.
jam0o0 02-10-2009, 12:03 PM half tons(D44) or fix the 1/4 ton that's there(TTB28). don't put a different 1/4 ton front in it(D30).

i have a rolled 1998 exlporer in the back, do u know if this year will be compatable with the 89 bronco II?

Thats what I had posted but I dont see it on here. I'd get the 8.8 out of the explorer & find a d-44 for it.
bronc_17113 02-10-2009, 02:38 PM depending on the yr it could already have a d35/8.8
i believe 90 started using the 8.8 rear and 91 had both

he said he had a '98 and I think it has a 7.5, he could find an older one though

I was talking about the BII I think you are referring to the rolled explorer. Sorry that I was not more clear as to what I was talking about.
IIISLACKERIII 02-10-2009, 02:55 PM can i just put the ttb from the explorer on the bII? that the main thing we need fixed, everything else wold be fixing something that aint broke.
bronc_17113 02-10-2009, 02:55 PM yes you can. It is a direct swap and common upgrade
IIISLACKERIII 02-10-2009, 03:00 PM will we have to change the gearing?
bronc_17113 02-10-2009, 03:06 PM that really depends on whats in the old truck and whats in the explorer
Hefty 02-10-2009, 04:30 PM Check the tags on the diffs to see if they have the same gear set. If they do your good to just do the direct swap. The rear swap should be a direct swap as well if I remember right. If the two truck do have different gear ratios just swap the Explorer rear in. I'd take the 8.8 over the BII rear it should have discs and possibly even the traclock.
Joe01Bass 02-10-2009, 10:05 PM uhhhh, i think your a little mistaken. The '98 xploder is a gen 2 explorer, which came with control arms, cv axles, torsion bars(CRAP) and such. It is NOT the ttb dana 35 (although i think it still is considered a dana 35, just not the ttb one). The suspension you are talking about is from is from the first generation of explorers ('90 or '91 to '94). Im not sure on the rear axles as much but im pretty sure my '97 mounty has an 8.8, but i dont know about the 1st gens.
Hope this helps :beer
IIISLACKERIII 02-10-2009, 10:47 PM ya ur right it is the d-35 but its not like anything i have ever seen...f-it were replacing the yoke...if it brakes again il take it off his hands and put a d-44 in it just to say i have a BA bronco2...if that could ever happen, lol, thanks for the help guys...and yes it is the 8.8 rear, and it is probly going on my 69 mustang so i wouldnt swap that into the bronco anyways...thanks again
Joe01Bass 02-10-2009, 10:51 PM Ya the torsion bars make everything a pain in the ass, and make even lifting the explorer a pain (not to mention expensive).

yep happens to the best of us, i figured thats what you thought, i know when i got my '97 and i looked underneath it i was very disappointed to see that, its great for drivin around on the street but less than ideal for off road use IMO

:duh
Joe01Bass 02-11-2009, 03:51 PM ya when i got my '97 i knew next to nothing on them, and the only suspension system i knew of on the ex was the ttb, but i got the truck for practically nothing so i wasnt complaining

There are several VERY knowledgeable folks there that can answer anything you want to know about modding a BII.
