View Full Version : Arizona Border Patrol Clean Up
Rubicon_of_Death 02-12-2009, 01:46 AM I've been thinking about this for a while after seeing pictures like this:
http://doctorbulldog.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/layup1.jpg
So today I stopped by the Regional Border Patrol office & spoke with an agent there and gave him my proposal. Basically I wanted to see if the off road community could help them out and clean up a bit of our precious desert and give the brave men & women of the Border Patrol some much needed help. Wheelers are great about doing clean ups for areas that we wheel in, so I figured this was right down our alley.
Here is where we stand so far.
1: I need to compile a list of people that are interested in helping out. I'm going to post this up not only here, but also on a few other Arizona boards (this isn't going to be vehicle make specific, just a bunch of wheelers of all kinds that are interested in keeping our desert clean) and get a rough head count.
2: I will forward that list & links to the clean up threads so the agent I spoke with can present it to his director.
3: If we get the green light to proceed, they will give us an location where our services are needed, (I asked for something somewhat remote so we can do a little bit of wheelin' & get the stuff that is harder to get to). Most likely it will be in the Casa Grande Area so it is easier for both Tucson & Phoenix wheelers to get to.
The date when the actual event will take place is pending response from the Border Patrol, but will most likely be within the next few months. I will try to coordinate a date that will allow the most wheelers to attend (most likely a weekend). I am also going to try to coordinate with local businesses to try to gain some support and help with supplies (rubber gloves, trash bags, etc. Maybe even some gas cards if I can). I am also going to contact the local media once we get closer to the event to help spotlight our cause & show the environmental impact that uncontrolled borders are having on our desert.
I think this is a great way to help show the rest of the world that the off road community isn't out tearing up the desert & that we actually care, plus we get to aide a great agency that is full of unsung heroes.
Let me know what you all think & if you would, please reply to this thread to let me know if you are interested.
Thanks,
Brian
stan the man 02-12-2009, 02:05 AM Good idea, but I think all of the illegals should spend a couple of days chained together cleaning that crap up... then we deport them after their hard free labor. :thumbup
Aislin 02-12-2009, 03:05 AM Sounds like an amazing idea, sadly im in Texas though... D:
Good luck, this sounds like it will be one hell of an event :D

Summertime in that area gets a little uncomfortable for us and the vehicles seeings how it gets so hot around there.. Not trying to take over your good idea, I'm just saying.
Spectre 02-12-2009, 01:32 PM A bit far from me, but I think that's an awesome idea..
Seeing that picture makes me hate the illegals even more. If you do go through with this and see some out there run them over for me.

That's why I'm trying to get it done in March or April, before it gets way too hot.

My suggestion, and I think your idea is awesome...
but...
Don't pick up all of their garbage, just rearrange it and let them follow the garbage trail back to mexico. :toothless
MudMad 02-12-2009, 10:40 PM Heck, pick it up, put it on hangers and then sell it back to them so they can look good going back across the border. Naw, heck of an idea and I hope you can get it put together. Heck, take the border patrol with you so they can catch some illegals and make it a dual purpose clean up. Good luck, I always like to see people getting involved for the off road community.
chebbykiller 02-12-2009, 10:46 PM That's a great idea. I'd be down for it depending on the state of my Bronco at the time.
Tony R 02-13-2009, 12:35 AM Awesome idea. Anything you do to help out I bet is greatly appreciated. There is a Arizona Ranch owner who is being sued for holding illegals "illegally". All over one radio station out here. I guess he has had this kind of stuff on his property for ten years. Now I believe it!
Rubicon_of_Death 02-13-2009, 01:32 AM Cool guys. Thanks for the responses. I'll be sending my email mid next week, so if you're interested, please let me know so I can give them an approx head count.
Thanks again,
Brian
Rubicon_of_Death 02-14-2009, 02:48 AM Cool deal. So far I'm looking at about 20 people interested so far from this & the other boards. I'll be submitting my email on Wednesday next week. So get in while the gettin' is good. The more people we have interested will help with gaining Border Patrol help. You can join after we get this thing rolling too, but the sooner the better.
Thanks all,
Brian
Dustin 02-14-2009, 10:55 AM Im in of course. I would count darby and scott too
wldlndfyrfytr 02-14-2009, 03:05 PM I'll give you a definate maybe. I'm down here in Yuma and we have the same problem, but not to the same extent. I've got a utility trailer set up for my canoe, it's tall and narrow. I'll need to put some new tires on it. My other trailer isn't finished yet, but soon. A few suggestions.......If possible seperate the aluminum, glass, and plastic. It'll help recoup some gas dollars. Also, the reusable clothes can be donated to charity. The reusable backpacks can be cleaned up and donated to underprivilaged school kids. Just a few thoughts. It might help to get more sponsership for the project. Wouldn't hurt to do it at least once a year. It might help other groups to get off thier asses and do something about this problem. I love the desert and hate to see this crap. Message me.
biggies92bronco 02-14-2009, 05:42 PM Hmmm sounds like fun if someone has an open seat id love to tag along....
Rubicon_of_Death 02-16-2009, 03:20 AM Awesome.
I'll be creating a yahoo email address specifically for this since I'm starting to get a lot of support from all the threads I've posted & other threads that have spawned from them. It'll be easier for me to keep everything organized that way. I'll post it up tomorrow.
Wednesday is the day I expect to send the head count & my proposal to the BP.
Thanks again everyone,
Brian

I'm sure I'll be able to find you one.
Rubicon_of_Death 02-16-2009, 03:26 AM I went ahead & created a yahoo group for this. That way I can post up messages & receive emails all in one location. You don't have to join, but it will keep you updated via email as to what is going on. Feel free to post up the link & email address on your own boards.
Thanks!

96GreenMonster 02-16-2009, 06:16 PM Awesome Idea!!!!
Wish I wasn't so far, cuz I'd love to help

Quote from members of the Nazi Party - "Seeing that picture makes me hate the Jews even more. If you do go through with this and see some out there put them in the oven for me."
Don't worry Spectre, you aren't the only misguided individual in this thread. Some of you guys really need to think about the garbage inside your head first. You know who you are, and you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Critter_Bronco 02-18-2009, 07:02 AM problem is most people think that way about ILLEGALS........... by the way they count for 50 points here !!hmmm just a thought :twak
AHeavyBronc 02-18-2009, 02:57 PM good idea, but I'm in Ohio, so I won't be able to make it...
Rubicon_of_Death 02-18-2009, 07:48 PM I just sent my email to the Border Patrol. I will keep everyone posted on the forums & via the Yahoo group. Thanks for joining in.
