View Full Version : Southwest Performance 1st MDR race= 1st win
mkiefer 02-26-2009, 12:29 AM :beer We raced our first race last weekend. It was a truly awsome time. I know its not a bronco, but it a svt lightning ( or at least was) :toothless Well we had a great race and didn't have to do anything to the truck. This served as a test for the first real race on my crossover steering kit as well. Other than a broken R&P on the way back to the pits averything worked great! The steering worked awsome and had 0 issues which is amazing because we stuffed the truck HARD on the drivers front tire against a 4 foot tall bank and allmost stopped the truck from 40 mph. Ready for production! It was a very fun time and we are going to try to race the whole series. I just wanted to share with you guys:beer

yikes 02-26-2009, 12:36 AM Awesome Mark!!! Truck looks great. Congratulations on the win. That has got to feel good. Especially for the firstr race on the truck. Your work is top notch, so it doesn't surprise me that there were no major failures. Got any shots of your new proven steering? Is the elusive pitman arm on there somewhere?
mkiefer 02-26-2009, 12:43 AM I'll take some good pics of it next week when i get the truck back up here. Yep ill get one to you.
MudMad 02-26-2009, 12:44 AM Congrats on the win and great looking ride.
418stroker 02-26-2009, 01:05 AM nice win! that suspension looks cray-gnar! how much travel and what kind?
mkiefer 02-26-2009, 01:12 AM twin ibeam front with 18" rear 3 linked with 28" ciolover, bypass and bumpstop per tire. All Bilstein for good reason. this is a pic of camp from the door of my trailer. They are awsome guys. they did service and shock tuning all weekend for customers. It probally helped that we had beer and carne for dinner!

TCM GLX 02-26-2009, 01:34 AM Congrats!! That is bad ass.
Can we get some details on that Lightning there...
mkiefer 02-26-2009, 01:37 AM Its getting their for sure. The shock tuning is 70% ish. its not quite there yet. We really need some motor too. alot of our comp is in the 400-500 range and we put down under 200. It all takes time though. Ill take a bunch of close ups next week and post a buch of good pics. I know you guys are all pic whores! lol i have to figure out how to embed movies too.
motoxscott 02-26-2009, 01:57 AM Looking good Mark!! Now that its race tested lets get that steering for my Bronco here :)
Whats the wheelbase of that truck? How do the linked bronco's you've build compared?
- Scott
mkiefer 02-26-2009, 02:09 AM 118. The truck is alot different then the Broncos. its 90 inchs wide and has more travel. Ive never driven the broncos as hard as this so it not a fair comparison. The broncos work suprisingly well and are really stable too, even with the shorter wheelbase.
what a great feeling, first race with no issues, well done mark!!!
Revenant 02-26-2009, 11:31 AM Nice stuff! I'll keeping looking at SouthWest's website for the day the products link works :beer

TCM GLX 02-26-2009, 12:03 PM Details, pics and specs on that white lightning please!!
mkiefer 02-26-2009, 12:15 PM The white one is mine. Its a 94 lightning. Converted to 4x4. Bilstein c/o's and bumps in the front 16 inches of travel. It uses my beams with uniball upgrades, radius arms, and brake kit that runs down the inside of the arms. The rear has a custom National Racepack, longer shackels and 5100 bilsteins. Soon to do list includes crossover steering, rear bedcage with bypasses, 2-link, and limit straps. The cage and tires will all fit under the flush mount hard bedcover of course. The black truck is a lightning too by the way.
