One Sunday morning, about 9:00 we all (me, two of my sons and about eight of their friends ) headed out to go play around for the day at a local favorite place to get muddy. Its called Brinsons Hollow, and it has minor to just plain nasty, nasty, nasty mud holes. We thought we had a ample number of rigs, if somebody got stuck, it shouldn't be a problem..... We were hittin some of the minor holes and playing for a while. Then when the small holes started gettig boring, we decided to go to some of the bigger and better runs. It wasn't long before we went down this one road to the "backside". This is a place we were familiar with about the first mile of, with dense brush and tree's on both sides of the road. It stays wet and muddy for a long time because the tree cover is so thick that the sun can't get to it. It is a very steep down hill, narrow, deeply rutted road. After that it was new territory to us. We thought we better walk a ways a check it out. Well it flattend out and had a few corners and hole but nothing worse than we had already been through,so we got the rigs and headed on down the road. when we got as far as we had walked to we thought we should be fine. My second oldest son Allan (18 at the time) was up front in his 77 s/b F-150 on 36" Thornbirds. He disappeared around the first corner, and everyone came to a stop. Walked up to see what was going on ad there he was high centered big time. Someone with 44"s had dug the hell out of the road. He had tried to straddle them, slipped in and there he was. We filled in under his tires with anything we could find and after about an hour got him on through. Then it was Travis's turn. NowTravis is 20, has a Bronco II with a very built 302 EFI in it, setting on 38" Super Swampers and a very heavy right foot. He took a run at it and bounced, slid and RPMed his way through. Next was Joey and his mid eighties Toyoyta on 35"s half an hour later we got him through...then the rest of us got on through. Finally after three hours everyone was on the far side of this hole. We were off and running again and have some fun in the mud. About 2:30 in the afternoon we got to the bottom of the hill. My youngest son Nathan in his 78 Bronco on 36" Super Swampers, (better known here as 2-1/2 ton bronco, but his bronco was still on the half ton running gear) just buried himself in this deep slimey swamp. took about a 1/2 hour to get him yarded out. We played for a long time down there in the swamp and had a good time. Finally around 7:00 its time to head home ( I had to go to work at 4:00 the next morning ). We start back up the hill I was in my 80 Blazer with lots of lift and setting on 39.5 Super Swampers, spool in the back and a locker up front, I didn't want to be blocked in if someone else couldn't make it so I went first. I was able to claw my way out past the hole that everyone was having problems with on the way down. I was the only one that did.
:banghead One by one they all got stuck either on the road coming up or in the hole. Where this was at, was so steep that I couldn't do much to pull them up. We decided that the best thing to do was for me to go home and get more chains, cables and snatch blocks. I got back with all this stuff, one 300 foot and one 200 foot peices of 3/8 cable, nine or ten 20 foot chains and five snatch blocks, ( all this was barely enough to get the job done ), some food, pop, and coffee about 9:30 or 10:00 PM. We get everything set up and start bringing them out one at a time. Travis was the first one to come up. He made it out relatively easy with a little help. Then it was Allan's turn, he was making good progress until he ripped a tire open on a big stick that was poking out of the bank... So he borrowed a spare form Nathan and out he comes. Most of the rest came out easy enough but it took a little time, well in the mean time Joey got bored and went back to the swamp and ended up breaking a U-joint on his front drivline. So I had to go retreive him, and take him on to the top
:twak
From there on everyone was able to make it on their own. I got home in time to take a much needed bath and go to work.
:slap
these are the only pic's we got that day. It was earlier in the day in some of the medium difficulty holes. Allan (77 F-150) was pulling Joey (mid eighties toyota) out of this hole and back to "dry land", as Nathan (2-1/2 ton bronco) watches on.....
