View Full Version : BuckShot Mudders
78Bronco4x4 03-02-2004, 07:59 PM Well finally I have made up my mind, Im gonna get some 235/75/15 buckshot mudders for the jeep but I gots a few questions for those who have them or have used them before.
What are they like on the highway? Noise, Steering Response, Braking......ect.
How good are they in mud?
BlueBronco 03-09-2004, 10:31 PM They are good in the mudd. Buckshots are also siped and threaded for studs. The sidewall is stiff so you don't want to try and pass a Porche. They are tough to beat for the money. They make a hum on the road. :drinkbud

Really, I had a set from the Co-op, on the 73. really did great in the mud, howl like a banshee, and wore like iron. Had manual steering so It steered like the titanic.
millpondmonster 03-10-2004, 01:11 AM they wear very well, they do alright in the mud as far as A/Ts go. not as good as a swamper in the mud though. If you look around you can find the same tire under another name for less money. They run high air psi. so they do handle well. :thumbup
78Bronco4x4 03-10-2004, 01:48 AM Well, unfortunatly I ran into some financial problems and ended up getting the cheapest All Terrain tire my dad sells, 235/75/15 Michelin Liberators, which isnt really a problem to me because I have had experience with them off-road. They are pretty damn good in mud for a A/T,they have fairly wide center tread and siped for wet roads and icy situations (they work great on ice). priced at $60 minus %10 with my dads discount card :thumbup compared to the $90 BuckShots + the price for shipping + tax.
Marauder 03-10-2004, 03:50 PM wait, so buckshots are considered A/Ts? Im looking at them right now and they look just like a super swamper LTB?
1982bronco 03-10-2004, 04:17 PM :stupid
i thought they were mudders? :shrug
and hence the name of the thread "Buckshot Mudders"
Marauder 03-10-2004, 04:42 PM Yeah they really look like a mud tire. I havent seen them in person but compared to all of the other pictures they look like an agressive mud tire.
92broncoman 01-25-2009, 02:44 PM you can buy nankang mudstars. thats what i have . same pattern and design as the buckshots. they were 150 a piece for 33x12.5
OzzyZig87 02-04-2009, 09:57 AM make sure you get buckshot mudders and not maxxis buckshot muddrs
kemicalburns 02-04-2009, 12:59 PM also consider the Maxxis Bighorns, they are cheap but so far a great tire according to others here. there is a review thread regarding these tires.
Hopper 02-04-2009, 04:04 PM I'm pretty sure that all Buckshots are made by Maxxis...
I've had both the Big Horns and the Buckshots. IMO, the Big Horns are better in pretty much every way.

They might be now, i'm not sure what the deal is really. I do know that a few years back they didnt physically say maxxis on the tire. Maybe a diffrent tire I dunno. A lot of the guys run them down here in SE Texas because they are supposedly made in La. Never ran them though, this is just from what i've heard.

X2!!!! Get the gateway buckshot tires... A very GOOD tire, I have ran these in the past, Q78 biasply and the tread is about 1.25'' deep. They wear very well also, alot of the local mud boggers around here run them still and the Q78's run about 800 buxs a set.:thumbup
triplesix 02-05-2009, 01:49 PM Didi you guys happen to notice the 5 year gap between post #8 and #9?
I'm sure he has his tires figured it out by now. :toothless

I thought the point of the reviews section was to give reviews for others to search up for later use :goodfinge

Maxxis has been the company behind Buckshot and are based out of Georgia. Interco is based out of Louisiana.

Ogeechee 4x4 02-08-2009, 04:40 PM Gateway Buckshot Mudder is an ooold school mud tire. They were popular around the same time as Ground Hawgs. Lately, Maxxis came out with a tire with such a similar name and everyone's been confused since.

MuddinBronc 02-08-2009, 04:53 PM That old school buckshot mudder looks like a good tire. How come they stopped making it?
OzzyZig87 02-08-2009, 10:45 PM I knew I was at least half right.
BlueBronco 02-08-2009, 11:35 PM These people still show the Gateway Buckshot.

Well damn; I've had some of the Gateway Buckshots (several sets in fact). After Maxxis came out with theirs, I assumed they were always made by Maxxis and just redesigned :brownbag
olmer2 02-10-2009, 11:54 AM I have had both types.
The Gateway Buckshot (co-op specials) are a TOUGH tire! I've found it hard to rip out the lugs. They're not to road friendly as far as noise is concerned but they handle well and have good wet weather grip. They also have a great wear life. They air down but have a really stiff stiff sidewall. I had the Q's (about a 36)
The Maxxis Buckshot Mudder is a great A/T-mud tire. They (as seen in a earlier post) have an aggressive pattern and shed mud really well. They have OK road manners but are a little noisy and spongy (for an A/T). They wear really well and have a tough sidewall. They also air out well too. I had the 33's.
I now have the Maxxis Bighorn which is very similar to the Mudder in design but it has side lugs which gives a bigger footprint whan aired down. They have about the same characteristics as the Maxxis Buchshot Mudder. I have 35's

They still make it, most Co-ops I have been to can have them to you in about a week. I'm not sure about the avalibility of all the sizes though.
BRONCONUT 02-10-2009, 12:12 PM I heard they discontinued the buckshots, not 100% sure about it. I did notice the time gap though and wondered why he was still getting advice on them.:haha
Snowman_87 02-11-2009, 02:13 AM Ive hade mine for about 2 years..... It will be time for new tires very soon though. Anyway, there not bad I guess. In 2wd turning sucks but in 4wd its no problem. In the rain there fine aswell just watch on cornering at highway speed. Off road there pretty good and as for sound the just make a humming sound- nothing too loud
Snowman_87 03-25-2009, 12:56 AM Ive been running the Maxxis Bighorn for about 30,000 miles. there still ok but kinda borderline on being safe. They were great! I paid 170 a tire. I was and still am happy with them all around.
What about the buckshot mudder? how are they?
Im going to be due for new tires soon so what should I go with? The bighorn tires went up to around 220.... so I dont know what to do. Im also considering the BFG mt km. any other suggestion on a tire?
Thomas21407 03-26-2009, 10:07 PM the old school buckshots are the shit!!no doubt!
maddog312us 03-27-2009, 12:10 AM i have some of the newer buckshot mudders on my bronco and love them.
