View Full Version : First time out with the new tires (now with pics)
stangmata 03-08-2004, 01:11 PM As you know i just got a set of 32" Pirelli Scorpions about 3 weeks ago. I love how the tires handle on the road!
Yesterday my buddy came over in his Jimmy. He has 2" of lift and 33" mud claws. He wants to go out and get muddy. I agree and tell him ahead of time that "my tires arn't for muddin'"...he doesn't care, "I'll pull you out" he says in a rather heroic voice.
We go out and the first mudhole we hit he puts his truck in 2wd and roosts the whole way through it.....I on the other hand, click my truck into 4WD, put the shifter in 1st, and crawl my way right through it.
We continue down the trail. Speeds are reaching 30-35MPH across the gouy ground with sploches of snow. We drive up on a huge field. On we go, Ben, cranking along in 4wd down the beaten path makes it through just fine....but me being the genius that I am had a better idea.
I drive to the right of the typical path right into clay mud. I make it in about 50 feet when I bury myself....I have no where to go. The mud is so thick that my tires won't even spin. I throw the truck in 4Low, slam the tranny in reverse, and I start on the skinny pedal. Furiously rocking the tank out of the mud.....it's no use. Ben pulled up to me and offered a yank, I declined to be pulled out by a GM....I can handle this.
After 5 minutes of rocking I free myself and in reverse, drive down the trail through my deep ruts. I spin the truck around and take back off towards dry ground.
Overall I was very impressed with how the tires handled the mud, especially for not being mud tires. I was worried that I would get stuck at first site of mud.....but now I have no fear :toothless .
I'll get pics of my truck tonight or tommorrow. She's all covered in clay. :thumbup

bnkrtstk 03-11-2004, 09:36 AM Looks like you threw the mud on with a bucket. If so , you missed the windows :goodfinge Come down next wheeling trip and we'll get that thing dirty for you. Just don't follow Jackhart, his truck is immune to dirt :shrug
stangmata 03-11-2004, 10:03 AM I really dont think my truck would have gotten muddy at all if i didn't get stuck. All the mud on the fenders and hood is from turning the front wheels back in forth so I could break my self loose.
And Andy....bite me.
94 XLT BRONCO 03-11-2004, 10:08 AM Nice lookin rig........ I'd remove the running boards though :thumbup

yeah, that looks like more, but ya cant forget that his tires dont stick out of the fenders like most of the bigger trucks on here do. I remember going mudding with my old 31 and 33s, and it never really got that muddy. once i got my 15*10 rims on my 35s, i could get mud on the roof of the cap :toothless

I've had mud on the roof in my 88 with 31's and the 79 with little 33's.
Come clean Stang, you threw the mud on it in your driveway, we can't help you if you don't admit you have a problem. :goodfinge
stangmata 03-12-2004, 09:21 AM The running boards help keep alot of the mud off the truck as well.

Not quite. It's bad enough I have to wash my truck....but to have to wash my driveway on top of that.....
I'm too lazy to come up with a scheme like that :toothless

Yea I go to RIT. There is an area around Scottsville called the pipeline that some guys hit, i haven't had a chance to get out there yet. There are a few fields out towards Brockport to play in as well. The only other place that I know of is Friday 4X4 in Ogden. That should be opening up here soon.
I'm assuming you go to RIT? If so the only rig around that I could picture being yours has something to do with a fire dept...it has a sticker, or a blue light or something? Anyway hit me back with some info. :thumbup :beer
jermil01 03-17-2004, 09:53 AM I'm just f**king with ya Stang man, as far as I'm concerned, any mud is good mud.. :thumbup ..And those are 33's on my rig BFG A/T's to be more presicse, they will throw mud given enough motivation from the skinny pedal.

It's cool man :thumbup
The 32's that I have will sling the mud too....but I'm not in to burying my truck if I can avoid it....especially when your buddy with a Chevy is laughing at you because your having a hard enough time making it through :brownbag

Raider 06-27-2004, 08:10 AM Unfortunately that place called the 'Pipeline' has been gated off .. Last time our club went down it there were some idiots riding around on 4 wheelers going in the protected land areas next to that trail, so the DEC gated the whole area off ..
The guys down at Friday 4x4 (Right near where I live) don't open their land up to the public really, you can only go there by invitation ..
It sucks now, most of the places we used to wheel here have been shut down, a lot of it is because of out-of-state college students that come in and wheel anywhere they see mud, even if its posted land, and end up getting everyone banned ..
Our club has a few areas we go to, but since most of the land got shut down, we don't release locations to the public .. We just lost a place down in Dalton where we held several open public events because the land owner decided to start charging an ungodly amount of money per person (Not rig) to wheel there EVERYTIME we go ..

Yea I know the pipeline is off...blows.
I've been down to Friday 4X4 with my old Nissan a few times. Everytime I went though it was all dried up. They keep telling me to bring the Bronco.
The out of state college students suck!
I heard about a farmer charging for wheeling out by Brockport. Is that what you are talking about?
If you live near Friday 4X4 then you have to be in the Spencerport area right? I live in Brockport!
