View Full Version : MEET ME IN CENTRALIA/PARAGON THIS WEEKEND!
TCRIMSONK 03-17-2004, 11:13 PM ***Edited due to scheduling conflict, and to save some money. We will only be wheeling in paragon on Saturday***
Hey,
This week is my spring break (I'm a college employee, so we get off too!)
If my locker comes Friday, I can install it friday morning, and grab my girlfriend, and head up to Centralia with my friend in his Grand Cherokee.
We will spend friday evening looking around Centralia, and spend the night somehere (maybe just sleep in our rigs) then Saturday head to Paragon.
We can ride the trails in Paragon, saturday, and drive back to Frederick MD on sunday.
I Just need to have at least one other vehicle meet us at paragon. He may not want to drive his GC in the park (he likes his paint too much) and Paragon requires at least 3 vehicles.
Comeon guys, you know you wanna!

drexelsteve 03-17-2004, 11:23 PM i wish it were that easy to pick up and head to paragon.
TCRIMSONK 03-17-2004, 11:37 PM Don't a lot of you live like 45 minutes from this place? I'm making a 3 hour drive each way. I might be able to get another friend to head up with his Wrangler. It would be nice to ride with a Bronco for once though.
drexelsteve 03-18-2004, 12:39 AM if i cruise at a comfortable pace it takes me 2+hrs to get there. plus i'm droppin at least $80 for the trip on gas alone. then there's beer, food, park entrance fee, not to mention where your gonna stay(reservations etc),beer, spare parts, etc. plus my co-pilot's goin away this weekend and i'm lost without her. If u could convince one more a-hole around here to go i'd be in. :thumbup
TCRIMSONK 03-18-2004, 01:33 AM Great! I'm sorry that this is such short notice, but I just realized that I was completely wasting my spring break here. I know how you feel about the cost of it all. I get about 7 mpg, so a 3 hour trip is definitely quite an investment.
TCRIMSONK 03-18-2004, 01:57 AM Okay, how's this? Anybody else who meets us up there, I will sell this LockRight to for just $150. It's for a PRE '87 8.8 31 Spline. Steve won't want it anyway, because he's got a 9. More info at http://www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15164
If you don't know if you want the locker, then you should come wheeling this weekend to find out for sure. If you dont get stuck, don't buy it. If you get stuck, buy it.
Either way, I'm bringing my 4+ inch tow strap, so anybody who gets stuck is definitely getting back out.
Kallure 03-18-2004, 02:38 PM I wish I could go but I've got a business trip to Cleveland, again, of all places! :uke:
Just a heads up, if no one wants to meet you up there, the Baltimore 4Wheelers will be there and while it may not be as fun as wheeling with us, you could definitely hook up with one of their groups so you could run.
Plus, you're gonna have to find a hotel or sleep in the truck because none of the campgrounds open until May.
TCRIMSONK 03-18-2004, 04:23 PM Thanks for the info! Sleeping in the truck is no problem. Can you tell me how to get in touch with the Baltimore 4Wheelers?

TCRIMSONK 03-18-2004, 04:57 PM Cool. Still would like to find an FSB guy to meet up with too.
Leonard 03-18-2004, 10:09 PM such short notice dude if i didn't have work i'd be up for it. with out a doubt.
TCRIMSONK 03-18-2004, 10:21 PM Check out this link, it's the Baltimore 4Wheelers thread about their trip. I will be meeting them up there on Saturday morning.
If anybody wants to meet up, call my cell. (240)285-8907

drexelsteve 03-18-2004, 10:46 PM :histerica hope u like rocks. good luck :thumbup
Kallure 03-18-2004, 11:08 PM Yea, just a heads up and not to burst your bubble, from the trails they're running, it's gonna get kinda rocky. The trails they mentioned - Whompun, Rabbit Run - they get real rockey. We tried to take two fairly stock trucks up Rabbit Run and ended up having to manually move rocks with our hands (well, I wasn't moving rocks :toothless I was redirecting ATV's). The locker'll help but just be aware that these boys don't seem like they're planning to run anything lower than a Blue 2. Bring spare parts and have fun!! :thumbup Sorry we couldn't be there but definitely in a couple of months ... May?
TCRIMSONK 03-19-2004, 02:13 AM Yeah, I noticed, these guys seem pretty serious. They said that they expect two groups though, one of which will run some easier trails.
At least now I will know how badly I need to build some sliders. (though it's best to find out how usefull they are AFTER you install them)
TCRIMSONK 03-19-2004, 02:14 AM BTW, what kinds of spare parts do you reccomend? I figure that running 33's, my stock axles should be able to hold up, right?
Kallure 03-19-2004, 10:34 AM They should be able to asses your truck and determine where you need to go. We've personally never run any of those trails listed all the way through - though I know reptillikus has been on Whompum. I'm not exactly sure how rough they are - you might wanna check with him.
Just feel them out. If you don't feel comfortable going into a trail or don't know what's coming, ask someone what it's like and if you'd make it through. Most of the trails do have bypasses over some of the big obstacles, but some of the trails themselve are obstacles.
Spare parts - not too sure, since I'm never the driver. Get with some of the other boys on here and find out. I know Steve carries driveshafts. Not too sure about the axles.
reptillikus 03-19-2004, 05:30 PM Whompum isnt that bad. It used to be 2 parts, but now they added a third. i hear the third is pretty wicked, but i havent seen it yet.
A locker, and a spotter will get you through whompum with no problems at all. Im confident i can spot a fulsize truck w/out lockers through there without getting it stuck...but i wont be there so i guess that doesnt help much. Id say if youre up to it just go for it, (youre already there, right?) just remember to stay to the right, especially at the fork near the end. i dont think there are any bypasses on whompum.
On 33s, i cant see you needing many spare parts. Carry some spare ujoints with ya just in case, but so far i havent blown any w/35s, so if yours are in good shape youll probably be fine. You might want to bring some wd40 or something in case you get your dist. wet in any water holes you might find.
TCRIMSONK 03-19-2004, 05:42 PM Looks like this weekend is a bust. My wheeling friend is sick and doesnt want to go out in the cold. I dont want to be up there when something brakes, and not have someone I know around to drive me to a parts store.
I will just have to test out my locker in the watershed near here.
bnkrtstk 03-19-2004, 05:50 PM If you are sitting waiting for another group to put some distance between you, don't try drivign up a hill 8 times, if you do bring a sawzall. :brownbag
But seriously, drive smart, trust yourself, and your rig, and most of all remember this fact; a stock FSB is better than most mildly modified smaller 4x4's. aka Jeeps. :thumbup
If you get in a jam, call me 215-605-7821 I'm about an hour and a half away.
