Paul, just remember I gave you all my info if you need anything holler.

I just sold the JL subwoofer I had for sale for $100... 100% will go to this... Hurry and PM me, or text me your paypal address before I change my mind. I could use the money but I also believe in karma. Pepe` has been dealt a rough hand of cards, and if I can help turn it around count me in. I'm sure I'll see the return 10-fold in other ways in my life, and frankly, I could use the positive karma big time right about now.

OK, went poking around a little after work today, i was gonna crank over the engine but i dont have the correct sized socket, someone swipied my 1", but i did look around a little, there is a lot of auxiliary wiring and crappy splicing im gonna have to work through.

now about this block plate business, would i be able to see if it was or wasn't there without removing the trans, is it truly necessary? the inspection plate for the trans isnt there, on mine it looks like it is bolted between the block and transmission bell housing. correct me if im wrong here please.

some pictures

Well, it wasn't unexpected, and I'll be helping him with it. It's the fooked wiring that's gonna take up a good share of my time when I'm down there. Hopefully, the engine doesn't need any dialing in, or any ignition parts.

sweet paul... love the hood, looks great and Stinky looks much happier! :thumbup

bummer on the missing plate. dropping the trans again... in the yard doesn't sound like much fun.
At least it's cooling down again. Thanks again for all the hard work.

Handy_andy_cv64

Linking to this would, IMHO, be the best thing. And dropping the trans won't be that tough--I'm bringing down some gear to assist in its R&R.

That's awesome help andy... thanks man!

I learned that the offer to redirect and close was made before... but rejected. I'm just concerned about people conversing in both and getting confused between the two. That and we don't need to be hogging up the board... I find that a bit embarrassing but don't want to ruin any enthusiasm or seem unappreciative.

Ok, lets get a final answer of this Block business.

Crank it by hand, if it rotates your clear.

Gilla, have you tried this yet? even with a pry bar or a big wrench on the Harmonic balancer bolt?

I'm assuming that El Kabong and I were the last people to wrench on Stinky, and I think we did get it to turn to the position it is now, to get the torque converter bolts on, Then tried to use the starter to get it the rest of the way, but the battery was dead. And I did not get it done before it left.

Gilla, whats the condition of the battery? Have you played with the ignition key yet? Have you tried turning the engine over?

On another note, i would recommend all fluids be drained and replaced, especially the trans fluid, since I don't think it was topped off.

Gillamonster
08-29-2009, 08:55 PM
the engine did turn, but we still have to get the block plate in before i try getting it running, next weekend me and andrew are goin to pull the trans again and install that. the battery was shorted out, but i got an extra or 2 laying around.

I appreciate the offer but gonna pass on that for now. I went over your "test" thread on the body work and like what I saw, especially the paint scheme overall (orange and black have a special place in my heart :toothless) and the work detail you gave for n00bs to painting. I'm just can't see it on stinky, as she sits now... not sure how far she's gonna go as far as body/paint at this point either. Besides... these guys don't need any extra work, we'll save that for further down the road. ;)

Thanks again Tommy! Major score on those pieces and great hand-off to save costs with Andy! Awesome progress guys! :beer

*sigh*

cutting the fenders instead of lifting it will cut down on having to re-gear the axles because of course lifting the truck will require bigger tires and bigger tires require difference gearing...

so in tune cutting the fenders would've saved money...

but since its already lifted it shouldnt be a problem.

BTW ...... I have no idea why i wrote what I did..

My ol' FSB only had a 3" bod. and it was just a touch to close to the 35's but easy to get into. I had my ideal tire setup before with the 10x15/35 MT's, so whatever works best with that, works for me! ;)
As we discuss lifts, I should note... if it's 4 or 6, I'll likely need some sort of "step up". Everybody hates the old tubes but I loved mine. A little protection and a whole lot of help up/in. Someday... I'll get the FSB builders sliders, depending on who's still doing them when I get my grubby mits on this stinky beast!

remember... this is Pepe` (left) and Paul (right)

Well, I started out to run over to Jshnagar's place over in Issaquah, but the traffic backup started north of 145th, and was so agonizingly slow. An accident, my low gas sitch, the Seahawks and the Mariners all contributed to me just (literally) screaming "F&#% IT!" and turning around at Northgate Way to head home. I told you it wasn't worth the extra trip. I was at the Seahawk game watchin em kick the Raiders asses.

If it was me I would grab them on your way out. You have to come down I5 anyway so slide down I90 grab the parts hit 18 back to I5. It's almost faster than straight 5 to Tacoma.

In the box is a set of headers, brand new set of ARP bolts, new exhaust crossover, a couple new left\right bends, almost new alt, power steering pump, brackets, 2 purple hornies and some other random stuff.

I also have rust\dent free doors and rear bench off an 84 but I don't think they will fit the pepe.

I also have rust\dent free doors and rear bench off an 84 but I don't think they will fit the pepe.

That wouldn't be a problem if I was heading down tonight, as I had originally planned. But because of circumstances, and holiday traffic, I'll be heading out about 4:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. So I'm going to make the run out to your place after work this afternoon, and I'll probably be there around 6:00 p.m. or so. See you tonight.

Sorry to be grumpy yesterday... minutes after I posted from falling down the stairs, I broke my pinky toe (according to my paramedic bro) on the only foot I have left. I hadn't realized the full extent of the damage falling down the cement stairs (only the pain on the tip of my stump had my immediate attention) so I hopped up to go get a drink in the kitchen and when the pain from my ass and my ribs hit me, I wavered and hopped my little toe right into the table. Once I make a move like that, I'm committed and what would have been a stubbed toe for most... well, lets just say I bent that poor little bastard till it was pointing at my heel. Today it's all black/blue/purple and swollen. Man... Hooper ain't got shit on me!

Maybe I should be more worried about a rollcage? :goodfinge Don't mind me... not sympathy bitchin here! I actually think this shit is pretty funny and wanted to share the laugh. It will all heal up in a few days and the way this summer has gone, a few more ain't gonna kill me. Now... I might kill me if I keep this shit up though. :toothless

1) I'll be heading to his place Saturday afternoon after work;
2) if anyone living along the I-5 corridor from Mountlake Terrace to Kelso (up to 15 miles East or West of it) has any donations, please post them up tonight , along with directions and a phone number in a PM, so I can plan accordingly. Bear in mind, that if you aren't able to post up tonight, there'll be other opportunities

Well, hello hello, We just got done with puttin stuff away for the night.

We didnt get as much done on the trans as first hoped.

It was raining off and on all morning, so in between the showers we went out and started doing wiring diagnosis and such, got alot of extra extraneous wiring out of there, alot more to go

then we went to dinner, and the sun came out so we hurried home and got to work, so right now the trans is out of the truck, flex plate is perfect, looks brand new, tomorrow we are gonna pull the flexplate, install the separator plate and put it back together, and if we got time, do some more wiring. Lots of stereo stuff.

You have 4 grille options, and i would like your input on asthetics, we have the one on it now, the one on it now painted black, we have a nice tube grille insert, or we could put the grill off the 75 on it for you, let us know, and let me know where you want your cb mounted, of the dash, up above on the roof ect,

glad things are going well. too bad you don't have my weather!

I thought I'd answered the CB question, but I must have lost it before posting. Anyway... I can't find dick on CB installs for the '78, but I thought that there was a good spot right under the ashtray. Easy to use, easy to install and out of the way... I think. Trying to find any pic on this year/setup I can. Same for the grill options... but right off the top, I'm thinking blackout or tube insert. Still need to take a look at one on a 78, 'cause my brains is fuzzy.

well, apparently SuperMotors is taking a crap right now... so I'll come back tomorrow and see what I can find to compare with. Have you got a pic of he CB? I ask because if it's small, it may be fine to the right of the ashtray, if it's a bit bigger old model, it may be best under the ashtray. Also thinking about the ant, but w/o a tire carrier, I'm not too sure. Either off the back bumper or off the passenger mirror...I'll see what I can see tomorrow.

INSOMNIA EDIT... one of my all time fav FSBs rocks the tube grill. I'd be down with that... works with the blacked out bump-guard too! :toothless

well, we got the trans back in there with the seperator plate and all, we needed a new gasket between the trans and tcase so thats as far as we were able to get today. but thats easy to finish up without andy here, we got the hard part behind us. Now, i dont have a jack so i put my spare 37's on the front, i think im gonna get all 4 put on the mag rims, they look perfect.

the grille insert, ill take it to work, sandblast it, weld up the tubes and paint it black, would look amazing, i did paint the headlight surrounds today, heres some pics, you need a new avitar pepe, that one is depressing.

Thanks again for the delivery and the assist Andy. I know that's gotta help with the motivation on Pauls end, not feeling like he's into this baby all by himself out there, like Jim had to have felt.

So gilla... are you talking about giving up your 37's for the long term? That's a hefty investment to loose to this project and as grateful as I am (and as sweet as they look... we sure about that lift or lack of now?) I don't want you cuttin' your own throat there bud! :doh0715:

Oh yea... that is SodBusters rig. I miss that crazy farm-drunk. Had a blast when I got to meet up with him for a farmers convention here in Spokane. I damn near had him talked into a trade... the old Stoned Bronco for his Tequila Sunrise. It fell apart from logistics and then he faded away from FSB. Never forgot that rig of his though... still gives me wood. It's not so much the paint (but it is cool) so much as the stance for that year.

I assume the roundy lights your talking about should mount/look the same as Sod's? Don't go gettin' me all excited now man... so far this project has been pretty ghetto and I've figured I'd end up with a ton to do after I got her here. You keep this up and I'll just jump in and rock this bad-ass FSB/Stinker on the coast with ya!!! :rockon

Hmmm... just occurred to me (I'm slow like that) we could setup the pickup down there to coincide with an FSB M&G at Sandlake or even at Gilla's, assuming he's down with that kinda group descending on his happy homestead. Sure would make for a great opportunity to meet some and take mass pics to get a better feel of involvment for everyone that's put in here. Hmmmm... food for thought? Booze for thought... oops, I farted! :goodfinge

OK, I'm heading up to my little womans this coming weekend. I'll check for stripping but anything left out there has to have been weathered to pieces by now.

then we went to dinner, and the sun came out so we hurried home and got to work, so right now the trans is out of the truck, flex plate is perfect, looks brand new, tomorrow we are gonna pull the flexplate, install the separator plate and put it back together, and if we got time, do some more wiring. Lots of stereo stuff.

well, we got the trans back in there with the seperator plate and all, we needed a new gasket between the trans and tcase so thats as far as we were able to get today. but thats easy to finish up without andy here, we got the hard part behind us.

Flexplate was donated by Mopar12373

how does it all fit now with the new plate? find the converter nuts?

Oops, I forgot to smoke black the side markers, and could have gone a shade darker for the front turn lights as well...

Easy, Andy
Hows this for a plate (and Paul already beat me too it...)

I have all three pieces, and will be contacting you, Tommy, either today or tomorrow for a good time to drop them off. We are going to use the starter, and we won't know if we need the ignition parts until I go back next month. Oh, and Jshnagar, I have all the exhaust parts, and will set up a time with you to deliver them back to you, as Stinky has a good exhaust.

How hard would it be to sand the rust spot on the roof and spray it black? Maybe respray the push bar black?

Not hard at all...just a plane ticket to PDX from Georgia, then a rental car out to Paul's place, plus some cash for the materials at a Portland supply house. Then some elbow grease on Stinky, and taa-daa! It's done!

not to sweat it Buff. Sheet happens and you had enough to deal with. Just becouse you got it started, doesn't mean you were expected or have any reason to feel bad about not getting it finished. Your efforts got it up here... hell, they got it to exist from nothing more than ideas typed out on a pc. Pretty damn cool if you ask me! :beer

so... hmmmm... road trip huh? yea, if I go down there... I'm gonna drag that bitch home when I leave! :toothless
haven't got the resources for a bunch of trips and I'm hopin' that when I do finally go down to pick 'er up, we'll be whoopin' it up all together at a serious PNW-Stinky Grad-Meet & Greet Bronco run! :rockon

yep... 22 months of the best relationship I've ever had with a woman, down the shitter.

Not a bad or mean break up... she just has too much to deal with and is much more used to being miserable and dealing with her families bullshit (mom, oldest daughter, ex-bf, etc.) than standing up and putting people in their proper places. I'm not one for taking shit and I can't handle watching her daughter make her miserable and destroy her granddaughters life. Obviously I could go on and on... but that's the gist of it. She may come back to me at some point in the future, but she knows I may or may not still be here for her.

"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts..." on with the show!

Thanks Tommy! Unfortunately I've got other projects going that are currently demanding my time twice a day, minimum.

So heading south as I'd hoped isn't going to work for another couple weeks for me. I'm thinking that maybe the first weekend in November, I might be able to head down for the weekend to visit Paul and I'd really like to get as many people who've been involved in the project there as possible.

I'm serious about this one. I need to come down and show my appreciation and I need to have a talk with some of the major players in this project. :beer

things we need, if anyone has em layin around.

Radiator with a trans cooler

I donated a trans cooler already, it's laying right there on the floor.

we got the cooler scott, the radiator is a little crusty so if someone had one with a trans cooler it would be nice

needs alot of wiring diagnosis, then we can fire it and go from there

theres alot of spliced in accesories, so im pecking at that for now, stereo, lights, the aftermarket ac, ect, then the headlights, turn signals dont work, still gotta figure out the ignition circut, just tracing wires and time

Unfortunately, due to car and health problems (and parts not arriving at Paul's place in time), I'm not down there this weekend. Sunday and Monday, the 1st & 2nd of November, would be doable for me; I'll have the Taurus' brakes taken care of by then, and a bit more healing on my knee.

wonder how we sit now... compared. may be some important details here... :thumbup

ok, Pepe, here is what you are getting. I won't leave anything out so there are no surprises.

First, it sat in the high desert for 4 years. The motor (supposedly) only had 1500 miles on it when parked. I know this guy personally, and I believe him. But, it sat for a long time. It was parked because the radiator blew. It has a brand new radiator that I installed.

Rats ate the underhood wiring harness. I went to a junkyard and found a replacement and mocked it in good enough to get it started, but it really needs to be finished. The cap that goes over the coil is broken and I have just been jumping wires to the coil. The battery is nothing more than a paper weight. It will not hold a charge, and it will not start the truck.

The tires are so-so. 3 are ok, one is wasted. I will throw a 32" spare on it. 4wheels match, but the spare is different.

The interior is in pretty good shape, but the door seals are loose. They just need to be re-glued. The seats and headliner are all good. This truck is pure 80's. It's all velvet, including the door panels. I actually think it's pretty cool, but I'm weird like that.

The paint on the hood is almost completely peeled off from sitting in the sun for so long. There is surface rust, but nothing structural. This is So Cal. Nothing rusts here.

The gasoline filler tube is cut. Some idiot decided they needed whatever gas was in the tank and instead of popping the locking gas cap, they cut the tube. I patched it, sort of. it doesn't lose TOO much when you put gas in it.

Those same idiots decided they wanted the stereo. They broke the trim to get it. I got replacement trim but never installed it. The truck also has a bad rear panel. The panel was made of plywood and they broke it trying to get to the amps.

I also have square headlight buckets and lights for it that I took off a 79 that me and a buddy parted out.

The truck has a 6" Rancho lift and originally had 35" tires on Outlaw II's. Sorry, but I kept the wheels. They're going on my Jeep. I got a set of Ford Aluminum Spoke wheels and those are on the rig now. I think they would polish up really nice.

The motor had a bad knock when I fired it up, and I discovered this to be a stuck valve and bent pushrod. I unstuck the valve and replaced the pushrod and lifter, and all is well. I'm fairly sure I got the distributer off by one tooth when I reinstalled it. It fires up and runs smooth, but has no power and I can't time it. Everything is there, though.

It has an Edelbrock Performer 4-barrel intake with the 2-barrel EGR plate. New CAT and a Cherry Bomb glasspack. Grant steering wheel (I hate it, and got a stock Ford wheel to replace it but never installed it; it'll go with the truck). It has Carr Hoop II Steps and a Carr front push bar. I believe I have mentioned previously that it has a factory roll bar.

Hmmm....what else.....

The tailgate window works. It has an AC compressor and all of the AC parts, but the belt is off and I can't verify that it works.

ok, here's some pics:

one thing I did forget to mention and that was a BIG THANKS to Tim aka: Crazed for picking up a serious piece of memorabilia for me.
He got the painted fender off the old Stoned Bronco from the dike that trashed it. It was awesome to see it sitting on Paul's porch and it's going to look awesome on the wall at my garage, when I get moved. Thanks Tim, that was super cool of you. It will have a place of honor, wherever I may roam! :thumbup
