Well after the headers Im getting vapor lock, once hot and I shut it off it wont start unless I prime it. I bought a elec. fuel pump, and will mount it inline near the tank. Anyone running this set up? If so...pics?

Ok how bout you start out simpler, what intake you running... do you have a spacer between the intake and carb?? if you dont have an air gap and dont have a spacer... theres your problem

so, not having an air gap intake or carb spacer will result in vapor lock? hardly. Since the header install, it's likely the exhaust is getting the fuel lines too hot, causing the vapor lock. Consider re-routing the fuel lines farther away, or install some sort of heat shield over the fuel lines - even if you pop rivet or zip-tie some cut up scrap body panels to shield the lines from the headers

True I wasnt thinkin about the lines... but the underhood temp obviously went up. I was just working on nothing for specs besides the headers.

Put some vents in the hood to let some of that hot air out...I have noticed the 78-9 hoods can trap alot of air...

Your starter may also be getting hot and if you have a bad or weak connection it will also act like it has vapor lock or hard to start, I had to place a heat shield on mine.

Eggsactly. I experienced this problem a few years back and as David has
recommended, I re-routed the fuel line, added a small metal shield and
viola, the problem subsided.

Thanks for the replys, as for intake its stock at this moment, Bought an Edelbrock highrise to be installed later. I was running open headers for about a month (idle,30 miles) no starting probs. I had a situation where I had to retard and advance the timing in order to start up. Well thats fixed (was 40*, now15*, tooth off) since the exaust was installed been having probs. Sheilding the line is a cheap start thanks Dave. I already have the elec fuel pump so Ill install it too.

Darnit
you got me beat on the 460, Dual friction, and truck avenger... but just curious why you didnt go with an aluminum intake when you put together the motor?? saves money in gaskets that way!! Well hope you can get it fixed.

Time wise wanted to make sure the motor was good, traded a detroit for it. It was an original 460, 40,000 org miles out of a F-350. I didnt rebuid it internally. Now that I know its a good motor Ill throw in the edelbrok intake and change out the rods and mains. Intake leaks anyway.

yep, I'm with David on this one. 1/2 flex. aluminum conduit over the fuel line worked really well in my case. Lines were just too close the the exhaust.
