I dont know who or where to go to for the best advice on beefing up my '90 E4od :shrug
Can I put in E4od from a 95 or 96 bronco & have all the upgrades the earlier ones didnt come with ? :shrug
Will the computer be the same ?
I want the tranny to be strong yet give me good fuel economy.
right now I dont have much money :cry
But I want the best! I cant just throw in a stock tranny or a used one. If I have to I could go with out the bronco for alittle while & drive one of my mustangs
Do I need a trick converter?
What should I make sure to do while the trans is apart?
You know things I cant do later, that I'll kick myself for not doing . :banghead
I was planning on a trans cooler with external filters & plumbing a better vent line to a higher place for crossing creeks & stuff
Is a shift kit a good idea on a bronco?
I drive the car alot on city streets but also plan on driving alot in mud & articulating trails
What about computer control shifting? can I add that later or does it half be done when its apart?
Like I said money is tight so I want to do the most with the least .
Thanks for all your input :rockon

You should post this in the general repair and tech help section, but I'll tell you what I know.

Yes the computer will work.

You want the best yet you have no money? Well that ain't gonna happen then, Prerunner Bronco just rebuilt his E40D with shiftkit and it cost near two grand.

I don't think you need a beefed up converter, couldn't hurt.

A transmission cooler is a good idea, with stock tires you don't need to worry about it overheating that much, but when you install your 6" lift and bigger tires it'll help.

Yes extended breather lines for your differentials, Transfer Case, and Transmission is a good idea, Andy351 did a great writeup on it in the Tech writeups forum. It's cheap and works.

I don't see how a shift kit would hurt, once again it costs alot more money, but at the same time will help your tranny.

Computer control shifting? Not sure, I thought the E40D did that anyways.

Thats what you get from my limited knowledge, you should double check with others rather than going off just this information.

Yes its computer shifted but , I thought the tranny shop told me to upgrade the computer unit during the rebuild. As if its something you need to do while its apart.
I know I could put a shift kit in later , with the tranny in the bronco . The kit cost about $100.00 or so.
Its suppose to be easy .I think I could do it myself.
Theres a shop in north hills that told me they would charge me about $1600.00 for a rebuild including the r&r.
Is that a good price?
They are going to upgrade the planitary gears & a center support. I think that all they would do for that price.
What else should I make sure to do While its apart :shrug
I just want to make sure I do all that is important while its apart.
I could always do the other stuff like shift kit later after its done when I could afford it.
The other shop In thousand oaks sounded(on the phone) very knowledgeable about the E4od and the quoted me about $2700.00
I hate to do But I was just aproved today for a new credit card , Its only got a $1500.00 limit tho.
I hate to spend $2700.00 that I dont have for something I really dont need .
