we really havent had an official meet and greet yet, there are several members here but I dont know what the deal is with them cause you can never can get them together to go wheeling except for a select few.

how about you start planning one? Im would say we should be able to get a few people to attend, I will for sure if you get something setup. or how about this....as soon as I get moved into my new house(probally by the end of next month) I would be willing to have everyone over there for a BBQ or something

New Bronco owner, live in Chandler area, still haven't done any mods to it yet, but I'd definitely be willing to talk to some of you AZ bronco owners about your mods/trails.

As far as wheeling together, I'm always free on Sundays, but I work Saturdays so I would need advanced notice to schedule some time off from work. I still have a stock suspension, so it would have to be some easy trails for my Bronco. :shrug

I'm game. I'm down in Yuma, and Dammit still needs some work, but I'm really tryin'. I'm slowly restoring the mechanical to "near" stock. I'll need about three weeks notice to make a run up there.

Bartlett sounds like fun, I've only been there on my motorcycle, so it will be nice to see what is out there off of the pavement. If we do this on a sunday, I'm free anytime. If it will be a saturday, the 15th of May is the earliest I am available. Let's make this happen. :clap

the weekend of the 15th is bad for me. I will be painting and starting to move into my new house that weekend. I would venture to say the weekend after(22nd) but probably would be better the weekend of the 29th.

also scott,jerad and I are hititng up raw deal this coming sunday(10th) if anyone is interested.

ok I think Im going to have to rethink this a bit. After todays run 42 and a discussion with jerad about this I think this trail is a bit much for a stocker. The trails seems to be a little more washed out then recent trips so I think it will make it quite diffficult for a novice wheeler. I just dont want to get anybody into something they dont want to do or dont feel comfortable doing. I know it can be done with a stock rig but its going to be all driver skill to get through the whole thing. see my recent pictures of todays run in the picture post forum

so with that said does everyone want to still do a trail run or just a meet an greet somewhere?

ok well I dont have a problem with leading a run to 42 I just want to make sure its clear on what the trail conditions are. If everyone wants to do it thats great, just make sure you have some tow hooks installed and a strap ready just incase :toothless also be prepared for trail damage such pinstriping, bumpers getting bent and mild body damage. usally its just light pinstriping from low trees but I have managed to catch my body on a rock taking a hard line before. This is just typical arizona trail conditions and risks for damaging your rig. If you dont want to get dirty you better stay on the pavement.

When I bought my Bronco last year, it didn't have a single arizona pinstripe on it. Now it has tons of them. I figure the paint is 14 years old anyway.

If you want to do a milder trail and one that has some shade we could do Box Canyon. I know it's a drive for you North/West siders (not that it's a short drive for me) but that trail is stock friendly. Plus it'll give Jer a chance to test out his new front end on Fire Hole.

yeah box canyon is cool, and yes there is shade with the canyon. could also do the coke ovens and woodpecker while we are there. Its going to start getting hotter than fawk here soon so we would have to start super early no matter where we decide to go. if your out there past 12 you start to roast.

lets not even begin to talk about a long drive for you, your already half way there compared to me. christ I think it took me like 2hours to get out there last time and now it would be 200bucks in fuel

If ya'll want to run that we should meet up at a centeral point out East then head to the trail as a group.

A good place to meet is the QT on Greenfield Rd. It is just South of the 60 on the East side of the road (between 60 and Baseline). The trail is about 30 minets east of the location and there's plenty of parking.

If we go to Florence we should plan to meet at QT at 8:00am and leave there at 8:30am sharp. As to be on the trail by 9:00am.

Something to rememer, Box Canyon is on State Trust Land. I've never know anyone to be stopped and asked to produce a permit but...I highly recommend having one. For permit information call: (602) 542-4602. They're pretty cheap.

would it be wise to take this large of a group on box canyon? I recall the trail being super tight and other rigs trying to come up the trail. With having to turn around and come back the same way passing was a bitch. If everyone shows up from here we have 7 people then 2 more if dumb and dumber come with scott.

The AZ trail run/gathering will be on Saturday 5/29/04. We are going to run the Box Canyon trail. It's a run that a bone stocker should have no trouble running. The main obsticles are 2 drop off's. One has many options to get down but the other is in the canyon with no way around, but it's not that big of a deal. That said, if you do get a bump or scratch or a dent NO CRYING. You're offroad and things happen. Plus, "what's no big deal" to me could be an "OH MY GOD WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN INTO", for you. Remember you are the one that chose to go knowing there was a risk.

The trail threw Box Canyon is fairly short and we will enter and exit in the same spot. Meaning we will go threw Box Canyon then turn around and come back out.

The day should allow for a more aggerssive run threw Upper Woodpecker for those wanting to stick around and beat down their rigs.

Bring lunch type food for you and your passengers as well as lots of water to drink.

Please don't be "that guy" that brings beer and drinks it while wheelin'. It's not cool when I'm the trail boss so if you have a problem with that vote me off the island.

If you don't own a CB It'd be helpful to get one before the trip, even a cheapie portable unit is good.

As I stated above, the meeting place/ralley point will be at QT on Greenfield Road at 8:00am. I will pull out at 8:30am sharp. If you miss us there or just want to meet at the trail head I plan to be there as close to 9:00am as possible. The QT is just south of the 60 on Greenfield Road. It's between the 60 and Baseline. You can't miss it.

Well, I was thinking we'd be to the enterance around 9-9:15am. We'd air down where we did last time we ran Woodpecker, since there's more room then right at the start of the trail head. I figured we'd all stand around and kick tires gettin' to know each other a bit and start in at it around 10:00am.

We should be able to make it to the other side of Box Canyon by noon so we'll eat lunch there because there's actually trees on that side...at least there used to be. Then head back stopping at the enterance to Upper Woodpecker.

Anyone that wants to run it can go but it is a level 4 out of 5 trail (35"tires and a locker are needed IMO)

Or we can run the Lower portion as far in as we want. That way the stock guys can hang and take the lines they want and the "out for punishment" guys have tons of optional obsticles.

I think the Coke Oven trail has gotten a little ruff on the last couple of steep climbs. A stock FSB could do it but there would be some major sheet metal kisses and rocker pannel scrapings. The last time I ran that trail (which is worth it) there were some unavoidable mogals that swollowed my 35" Boggers and I drug my rear bumper a fair amount of times. I don't know if any of the stock guy would be into such activities just yet.

Plus the other down side to running the Coke Oven trail is time. It does take quite a while. It's pretty long and there's no shade at all. It takes about 2.5 hours each way to really enjoy the run. So we'd have to be at the trail head around 7:00am to make it worth doing. That means you'd have to leave your house on Friday night to make it there on time. It's really best as an early Spring or late Fall trail.

I hope this sounds good to everyone, cuz that's the plan.

This run is easy. The trail is a 1.5 on a scale of 1-5. The .5 is for the 2 drop off's. The rest is like driving on a really cool dirt road...for the most part. The worst possible damage is dragging your rear bumper...unless you do something really, really dumb. Plus Dustin and I will be there to help. All will be fine. This is a good intro trail and after you see what your rig can do and what Dustin's and my rig can do you'll want more...guaranteed. :clap

Or if it turn's out you don't feel comfortable runing the trail you can park your truck and ride with someone...it's O.K. to do so...but we'll rib you quite a bit, but it's O.K. :toothless

a river, you do not want to be there during a flood cause your not getting out unless you can scale rocks like spiderman. once your in the canyon there are at least 40ft walls on both sides so you have to watch out for getting stuck in the rain

As much as I hate this, I have to back out. My oil pan gasket shit the bed this weekend and I'm on double shifts for 4 weeks. No time to fix it before this weekend, as a matter of fact I don't know when I'll get the time. Life sux then you die, I'm just counting the days.

I'm going still unless I break something between now and then, don't think anything will since it would have most likely let go at saguaro lake yesterday but you never know. I'd like to but the Bko is my DD and if I dont fix it Sat. I'll have to drive it this way for another week. I'm using (leaking) a quart of oil to get to work and a quart to get home and it's only 8 miles. Moooching a ride Sat. would mean having to mooch a ride to work and school for the kids all week. I'd hate to lose pressure (due to lack of oil in the pan) and spin a bearing or something equally as nasty. I should have stayed home this past weekend but wanted to shake her down, I hadn't locked the hubs since Quail season.

Ahh gotcha. Maybe we can get together another time after you get it fixed. :beer

hey dustin, i still have just under a half tank of gas. Still from the morning I fueled up before FR42.

im not topping it off this time, only 3/4 tank.

hell I will have to top mine back off by the time I get to the GT on greenfeild

it gets driven to Circle k, lowes, home depot, sub shop, all within a stones throw.

Sounds like it was a blast, sorry I missed it. I wussed out 'cause my Bronc started acting up earlier in the week and I wanted to "play it safe" or whatever. Ended up painting the house instead, woo hoo.

me too, I really wanted to make it, but I had other obligations that i could not break. Maybe keep us filled in on the next one, and I will try my hardest to make it.

So, when's the next one?

I hope to have the 390 and homemade Dual exhaust on by then.
