View Full Version : Phoenix area meet & greet/Box Canyon Trail Run(5/29) Switch 04-22-2004, 09:07 PM Just wondering if this happens here in the phoenix area. I would like to meet some fellow Bronco owners and see some of your rigs. James Dustin 04-22-2004, 10:11 PM we really havent had an official meet and greet yet, there are several members here but I dont know what the deal is with them cause you can never can get them together to go wheeling except for a select few. how about you start planning one? Im would say we should be able to get a few people to attend, I will for sure if you get something setup. or how about this....as soon as I get moved into my new house(probally by the end of next month) I would be willing to have everyone over there for a BBQ or something Copperpot 04-23-2004, 11:57 PM New Bronco owner, live in Chandler area, still haven't done any mods to it yet, but I'd definitely be willing to talk to some of you AZ bronco owners about your mods/trails. OL' HANK 04-25-2004, 08:34 PM Sounds like a plan to me, it would be nice to put faces with names. Let me know where/when :beer Switch 04-26-2004, 12:12 AM Well I'm lousy at setting these things up, so I was hoping someone else would be interested. :brownbag As far as wheeling together, I'm always free on Sundays, but I work Saturdays so I would need advanced notice to schedule some time off from work. I still have a stock suspension, so it would have to be some easy trails for my Bronco. :shrug James WhoaDammit 04-26-2004, 11:56 AM I'm game. I'm down in Yuma, and Dammit still needs some work, but I'm really tryin'. I'm slowly restoring the mechanical to "near" stock. I'll need about three weeks notice to make a run up there. ~Critter Dustin 04-28-2004, 11:36 PM well I will see what I can put together....any suggestions? places to meet? gearrat 04-28-2004, 11:41 PM we might be able to show up if there is enough advance notice.. gas is just stupid high up here... Dustin 04-29-2004, 02:12 AM its stupid high here too pal Andrewdrice 04-29-2004, 02:37 AM not as high in chino valley(tri-city area). If you all let me know about three weeks in advance, I will attend. I think it will be fun. ESC 04-29-2004, 02:04 PM Lets do it...I'm game since I have most weekends free now. :beer :chili: 94_chickentaco 04-29-2004, 03:12 PM Yup, im in. AND I CAN even put it in 4 wheel drive now. figuring is how half of us live in the E.valley and the others live way the hell out there, somewhere in the middle could be cool. like tempe maybe? or lets go to bartlett lake area, plenty of stuff for stock broncos out there, and its a great time to go. even sycamore is fun with a stock 4x. 2fastnaz 04-29-2004, 05:33 PM As long as my servers here stay up I can get away most weekends, just give us plenty of notice. I have a few buddies with Broncs and a few with F-150s that would probably come too maybe even an Air Force guy and his heep. Dustin 04-29-2004, 07:48 PM Yup, im in. AND I CAN even put it in 4 wheel drive now. figuring is how half of us live in the E.valley and the others live way the hell out there, somewhere in the middle could be cool. like tempe maybe? or lets go to bartlett lake area, plenty of stuff for stock broncos out there, and its a great time to go. even sycamore is fun with a stock 4x. christ Im always driving out there! tempe is still out there for me! if we go wheeling I say barlett lake, more fun than sycamore for less modified trucks. 90bronconate 04-30-2004, 01:52 AM if we go wheeling I say barlett lake, more fun than sycamore for less modified trucks. wow, first time in this part of the forum :brownbag i'd deffinitely like to get together and meet some of you guys. my bronco's pretty much stock so bartlet is good, plus it's about a 20 min drive for me. i'm open for pretty much any weekend. :thumbup gearrat 04-30-2004, 02:15 AM sounds good to me since the 94 is the only one we have up and running right now. OL' HANK 04-30-2004, 04:08 PM i've never been to either place, but it sounds like a good time to me lets do it :thumbup Switch 04-30-2004, 09:14 PM Bartlett sounds like fun, I've only been there on my motorcycle, so it will be nice to see what is out there off of the pavement. If we do this on a sunday, I'm free anytime. If it will be a saturday, the 15th of May is the earliest I am available. Let's make this happen. :clap James WhiteBronc 05-02-2004, 08:05 PM Ya I would to see this take off. Since I am out here now In Casa Grande :) Dustin 05-02-2004, 08:20 PM ok so does everyone want to hit some trails then? or would you rather meet up somewhere? and how soon? seems like we should plan it at least 3weeks out for everyone? OL' HANK 05-03-2004, 08:42 PM I'm open the weekend of the 15th,16th if thats not to soon. If not then, then not until the 29th,30th. If those dates are not agreeable for everyone then lets here more suggestions. I just want this thing to happen, looking forward to meeting and wheeling with some of you finally. :beer Dustin 05-03-2004, 11:06 PM the weekend of the 15th is bad for me. I will be painting and starting to move into my new house that weekend. I would venture to say the weekend after(22nd) but probably would be better the weekend of the 29th. also scott, jerad and I are hititng up raw deal this coming sunday(10th) if anyone is interested. OL' HANK 05-03-2004, 11:56 PM 29th sounds gooe to me. gearrat 05-04-2004, 12:01 AM well go ahead and set that date for you guys and gals.. after that met lets start working on one for july.. that will give us time to get stuff in order up here dogonmut 05-04-2004, 03:47 AM 5/30/04 is good for me. Andrewdrice 05-05-2004, 01:53 AM we might need to do more than one, not that Id mind! Dustin 05-06-2004, 02:04 AM so is everyone ok with the weekend of te 29th and 30th? what day is prefered and do we defetently want to run a trail? lets get this planned. ESC 05-06-2004, 01:35 PM CRAP! I'm gonna be out of town that weekend and the next. Be sure to take pics if it ends up being one of those two weekends. Otherwise if it gets postponed, I'll be there. OL' HANK 05-06-2004, 04:07 PM the 29th would be better for me but i could probably swing the 30th if needed. also a time would be great, and i would need to meet up with someone somewhere as i do not know where either of these places is. thanks dustin for taking the initiative on getting this rolling. :thumbup 2fastnaz 05-06-2004, 06:44 PM Yeah May 29 or 30th is good for me too. Now if the servers will just cooperate. Good going Dustin this will be cool. Ol' Hank I know where both places are. If you need to follow some one. OL' HANK 05-06-2004, 06:54 PM Ol' Hank I know where both places are. If you need to follow some one. Thanks 2fastnaz I would really appreciate that. Where abouts are you at, I am now in Glendale. 90bronconate 05-06-2004, 08:14 PM so is everyone ok with the weekend of te 29th and 30th? what day is prefered and do we defetently want to run a trail? lets get this planned. 29th is what i'd prefer but either will work. i've never done any trails so this should be fun. (as long as a semi stocker can do it.) :thumbup Dustin 05-08-2004, 11:35 PM ok I think Im going to have to rethink this a bit. After todays run 42 and a discussion with jerad about this I think this trail is a bit much for a stocker. The trails seems to be a little more washed out then recent trips so I think it will make it quite diffficult for a novice wheeler. I just dont want to get anybody into something they dont want to do or dont feel comfortable doing. I know it can be done with a stock rig but its going to be all driver skill to get through the whole thing. see my recent pictures of todays run in the picture post forum so with that said does everyone want to still do a trail run or just a meet an greet somewhere? thoughts? Switch 05-09-2004, 06:31 PM Trail, trail, trail..... :rockon James 90bronconate 05-10-2004, 02:10 AM yes deffinitely a trail. big deal if it's a little difficult, i gotta learn sometime right? Dustin 05-10-2004, 03:04 AM ok well I dont have a problem with leading a run to 42 I just want to make sure its clear on what the trail conditions are. If everyone wants to do it thats great, just make sure you have some tow hooks installed and a strap ready just incase :toothless also be prepared for trail damage such pinstriping, bumpers getting bent and mild body damage. usally its just light pinstriping from low trees but I have managed to catch my body on a rock taking a hard line before. This is just typical arizona trail conditions and risks for damaging your rig. If you dont want to get dirty you better stay on the pavement. so have I scared anyone off yet? :toothless Switch 05-10-2004, 10:13 AM When I bought my Bronco last year, it didn't have a single arizona pinstripe on it. Now it has tons of them. I figure the paint is 14 years old anyway. James dogonmut 05-10-2004, 01:52 PM If you want to do a milder trail and one that has some shade we could do Box Canyon. I know it's a drive for you North/West siders (not that it's a short drive for me) but that trail is stock friendly. Plus it'll give Jer a chance to test out his new front end on Fire Hole. ...and Dustin, I now carry a spare power steering line. :toothless Just an idea...cuz it's the only trail in centeral AZ with shade :rockon 94_chickentaco 05-10-2004, 03:08 PM i dont believe the shade comment. there is no hiding from the fireball dude. dogonmut 05-10-2004, 04:12 PM i dont believe the shade comment. there is no hiding from the fireball dude. Ummmmm. O.K. If it's not 12 noon there's shade. Like I said it's the only place I know that has shade. The trail goes threw a wash with 40 - 60 foot high walls. Dustin 05-10-2004, 04:28 PM yeah box canyon is cool, and yes there is shade with the canyon. could also do the coke ovens and woodpecker while we are there. Its going to start getting hotter than fawk here soon so we would have to start super early no matter where we decide to go. if your out there past 12 you start to roast. lets not even begin to talk about a long drive for you, your already half way there compared to me. christ I think it took me like 2hours to get out there last time and now it would be 200bucks in fuel 2fastnaz 05-10-2004, 05:31 PM Thanks 2fastnaz I would really appreciate that. Where abouts are you at, I am now in Glendale. I'm at 51st ave and Thomas Switch 05-10-2004, 06:36 PM Hey, I could meet up and follow you guys too, I'm at 83rd and Indian School. James 94_chickentaco 05-10-2004, 07:17 PM Ummmmm. O.K. If it's not 12 noon there's shade. Like I said it's the only place I know that has shade. The trail goes threw a wash with 40 - 60 foot high walls. sounds awesome. lets do it. 90bronconate 05-10-2004, 11:34 PM lets see. i'm at greenway and 19th st. where is box canyon? i'm curious how far it is from me. Dustin 05-11-2004, 12:34 AM florance junction......way way way WAY out there in BFE. damn I hate that drive..... :cry even more so on a differnt make tire for a spare on the rear with a rear locker.....can you say all over the road? :toothless dogonmut 05-11-2004, 10:14 AM If ya'll want to run that we should meet up at a centeral point out East then head to the trail as a group. A good place to meet is the QT on Greenfield Rd. It is just South of the 60 on the East side of the road (between 60 and Baseline). The trail is about 30 minets east of the location and there's plenty of parking. If we go to Florence we should plan to meet at QT at 8:00am and leave there at 8:30am sharp. As to be on the trail by 9:00am. Something to rememer, Box Canyon is on State Trust Land. I've never know anyone to be stopped and asked to produce a permit but...I highly recommend having one. For permit information call: (602) 542-4602. They're pretty cheap. OL' HANK 05-11-2004, 12:29 PM I'm at 51st ave and Thomas Hey, I could meet up and follow you guys too, I'm at 83rd and Indian School 67th ave and Northern that'd be cool to meet with you two somewhere. Lets plan on that. 94_chickentaco 05-11-2004, 12:50 PM did we decide on a day? 29th or 30th? OL' HANK 05-11-2004, 01:28 PM 29th is great for me. anyone else? 94_chickentaco 05-11-2004, 01:32 PM either is good, i like saturdays better. Dustin 05-11-2004, 10:02 PM would it be wise to take this large of a group on box canyon? I recall the trail being super tight and other rigs trying to come up the trail. With having to turn around and come back the same way passing was a bitch. If everyone shows up from here we have 7 people then 2 more if dumb and dumber come with scott. dogonmut 05-12-2004, 12:23 AM The trip plan I think Box Canyon will be fine. I'm going to jump in. I hope it's OK with everyone and be trail boss and make some final decisions or we'll never finalise this deal. Dustin, I'm not trying to step on your toes. It's just time to commit to a date, time and place. So that said... Hello and welcome to the 1st ever AZ Bronco ralley. I'm Scott and I'll be your trail boss. Sit back, relax and let the rocks reshape your body pannels. :toothless The AZ trail run/gathering will be on Saturday 5/29/04. We are going to run the Box Canyon trail. It's a run that a bone stocker should have no trouble running. The main obsticles are 2 drop off's. One has many options to get down but the other is in the canyon with no way around, but it's not that big of a deal. That said, if you do get a bump or scratch or a dent NO CRYING. You're offroad and things happen. Plus, "what's no big deal" to me could be an "OH MY GOD WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN INTO", for you. Remember you are the one that chose to go knowing there was a risk. The trail threw Box Canyon is fairly short and we will enter and exit in the same spot. Meaning we will go threw Box Canyon then turn around and come back out. The day should allow for a more aggerssive run threw Upper Woodpecker for those wanting to stick around and beat down their rigs. Bring lunch type food for you and your passengers as well as lots of water to drink. Please don't be "that guy" that brings beer and drinks it while wheelin'. It's not cool when I'm the trail boss so if you have a problem with that vote me off the island. If you don't own a CB It'd be helpful to get one before the trip, even a cheapie portable unit is good. As I stated above, the meeting place/ralley point will be at QT on Greenfield Road at 8:00am. I will pull out at 8:30am sharp. If you miss us there or just want to meet at the trail head I plan to be there as close to 9:00am as possible. The QT is just south of the 60 on Greenfield Road. It's between the 60 and Baseline. You can't miss it. If anyone needs to get in touch with me pm me and I'll shoot you my cell #. If you're planning on going please chime back in so we can get a head count. :chili: Andrewdrice 05-12-2004, 12:49 AM so, whats the date again??? I live upstate, so can I get some driving directions from say cactus and I-17? thanks, I want to try and make it down there dogonmut 05-12-2004, 01:10 AM so, whats the date again??? I live upstate, so can I get some driving directions from say cactus and I-17? thanks, I want to try and make it down there Directions The date-5/29/04 Meeting time:8:00am from Flagstaff take I-17 South to the 101 loop take the 101 twords Scottsdale Exit the 101 onto hi-way 60 heading East Exit 60 onto Greenfield Road Turn right onto Greenfield QT is on the left. or...do to road construction (thanks Jer) take I-17 until it ends. Once you're on I-10 take it to hi-way 60 Exit onto 60 East (it only goes East at that point) Exit 60 onto Greenfield Road Turn right onto Greenfield QT is on the left. from Tucson take I-10 West to hi-way 60 Exit 60 onto Greenfield Road Turn right onto Greenfield QT is on the left. from the west side take I-10 East to hi-way 60 Exit 60 onto Greenfield Road Turn right onto Greenfield QT is on the left. Here's the street address of the QT we are meeting at if you want to mapquest it. QT 1733 S. GREENFIELD RD. MESA, AZ 85206 :thumbup Dustin 05-12-2004, 01:38 AM hey bitch.............:goodfinge good you plan it since its on your neck of the woods and you know those trails. Ive only been over there once. suggestion tho we will have to bang through box canyon and shit to get to woodpecker before it gets to be 100 fawking degrees out, Im not going to change a tire in the middle of that damn fire hole again when the rocks are hotter than the face of the sun so whats the trail plan? box canyon, coke ovens, and woodpeckers? dogonmut 05-12-2004, 02:11 AM Activities good you plan it since its on your neck of the woods and you know those trails. Ive only been over there once. Some one just needed to stop the madness of planning and make a plan before it was to late. So I did. I didn't think you'd be butt hurt about it. :thumbup before it gets to be 100 fawking degrees out, Im not going to change a tire in the middle of that damn fire hole again when the rocks are hotter than the face of the sun See people...this is the stuff I have to deal with all the time from his royal magisty evey time we go wheelin'...oh, it's hot :cry ...oh, I popped a tire :cry ...oh...oh...oh.... :cry :goodfinge Just kiddin'. Dustin's one of my favorite wheelin buddies and a good friend so be ready to hear us give each other $hit all day. so whats the trail plan? box canyon, coke ovens, and woodpeckers? Well, I was thinking we'd be to the enterance around 9-9:15am. We'd air down where we did last time we ran Woodpecker, since there's more room then right at the start of the trail head. I figured we'd all stand around and kick tires gettin' to know each other a bit and start in at it around 10:00am. We should be able to make it to the other side of Box Canyon by noon so we'll eat lunch there because there's actually trees on that side...at least there used to be. Then head back stopping at the enterance to Upper Woodpecker. Anyone that wants to run it can go but it is a level 4 out of 5 trail (35"tires and a locker are needed IMO) Or we can run the Lower portion as far in as we want. That way the stock guys can hang and take the lines they want and the "out for punishment" guys have tons of optional obsticles. I think the Coke Oven trail has gotten a little ruff on the last couple of steep climbs. A stock FSB could do it but there would be some major sheet metal kisses and rocker pannel scrapings. The last time I ran that trail (which is worth it) there were some unavoidable mogals that swollowed my 35" Boggers and I drug my rear bumper a fair amount of times. I don't know if any of the stock guy would be into such activities just yet. Plus the other down side to running the Coke Oven trail is time. It does take quite a while. It's pretty long and there's no shade at all. It takes about 2.5 hours each way to really enjoy the run. So we'd have to be at the trail head around 7:00am to make it worth doing. That means you'd have to leave your house on Friday night to make it there on time. It's really best as an early Spring or late Fall trail. I hope this sounds good to everyone, cuz that's the plan. Dustin 05-12-2004, 02:33 AM Some one just needed to stop the madness of planning and make a plan before it was to late. So I did. I didn't think you'd be butt hurt about it. :thumbup See people...this is the stuff I have to deal with all the time from his royal magisty evey time we go wheelin'...oh, it's hot :cry ...oh, I popped a tire :cry ...oh...oh...oh.... :cry :goodfinge Im not butt hurt about anything so piss off hey lets not start about bitching mister I dont have any power steering... oh the fun...... :histerica Im fine with starting early cause it wont be hot....I get up at the crack of dawn anyway,so leaving early for me isnt a big deal. personaly I would prefer meeting an hour earlier but Im game with whatever everyone else wants to do. dogonmut 05-12-2004, 02:49 AM Im game with whatever everyone else wants to do. Good. I'm glad. Read this "Mr. I'm going to be FOTM twice and your not". I hope this sounds good to everyone, cuz that's the plan. Oh, I can just hear it now... :goodfinge ...and BTW, I do have a spare high pressure line :clap Andrewdrice 05-12-2004, 03:30 AM dont make me come down there you two!!! Dustin 05-12-2004, 11:03 AM hey I havent won anything yet, still got to beat the butt plug first, hey lets not forget who nominated your pos. if you get pics up of that pile you will be pulling in the votes next time. now that you have the extra line you will never have a problem with it again, Im still amazed that repair worked 94_chickentaco 05-12-2004, 12:03 PM take the 101 towards Scottsdale Exit the 101 onto hi-way 60 h Take caution, you may want to run I-17 south to the 10 east then east on the 60. Southbound 101 will most likely be shutdown for the rubberized asphalt project, it was down last week from indian school to the 60 pretty much. and going down pima at 2mph sucks. dogonmut 05-12-2004, 03:07 PM Take caution, you may want to run I-17 south to the 10 east then east on the 60. Southbound 101 will most likely be shutdown for the rubberized asphalt project, it was down last week from indian school to the 60 pretty much. and going down pima at 2mph sucks. Good call. I've updated the direction post to add that route. :thumbup dogonmut 05-12-2004, 03:10 PM The trip info is on page 3 of this thread. There are 3 posts with the bulk of the info. The rest is like driving on a really cool dirt road...for the most part. The worst possible damage is dragging your rear bumper...unless you do something really, really dumb. Plus Dustin and I will be there to help. All will be fine. This is a good intro trail and after you see what your rig can do and what Dustin's and my rig can do you'll want more...guaranteed. :clap Or if it turn's out you don't feel comfortable runing the trail you can park your truck and ride with someone...it's O.K. to do so...but we'll rib you quite a bit, but it's O.K. :toothless dogonmut 05-14-2004, 04:17 AM Another freindly reminder... I highly recommend getting a state land trust permit for this run. I won't be held responsible for you if you get stopped. Look into it. They are cheap and the right thing to do. For permit information call: (602) 542-4602. Switch 05-14-2004, 10:31 AM Thanks for the pictures... I'm really looking forward to this. Also thanks for the number for the state trust permit. James a river, you do not want to be there during a flood cause your not getting out unless you can scale rocks like spiderman. once your in the canyon there are at least 40ft walls on both sides so you have to watch out for getting stuck in the rain Slide427 05-14-2004, 11:04 PM List 3.0 1 - me (dogonmut) 2 - Dustin 3 - 94 chickentaco 4 - OL' HANK 5 - 1990 Ford Bronco 6 - 90bronconate 7 - 90bronconate's dad (cuz he couldn't get a permission slip) in a mullet 8 - 2fantnaz 9 - Copperpot (still on the pot as a maybe) If you got room for a new guy you can count me in. My oil pan gasket shit the bed this weekend and I'm on double shifts for 4 weeks. No time to fix it before this weekend, as a matter of fact I don't know when I'll get the time. Life sux then you die, I'm just counting the days. OL' HANK 05-24-2004, 08:34 PM Dang that sucks bro. Slide427 05-24-2004, 10:40 PM I'm going still unless I break something between now and then, don't think anything will since it would have most likely let go at saguaro lake yesterday but you never know. My little brother might tag along in his dakota depending on when he works. Anyway till next time I got to finish changing my oil. Slide 2fastnaz 05-25-2004, 05:26 PM Dang that sucks bro. You're welcome to ride with me if you like let me know. I'd like to but the Bko is my DD and if I dont fix it Sat. I'll have to drive it this way for another week. I'm using (leaking) a quart of oil to get to work and a quart to get home and it's only 8 miles. Moooching a ride Sat. would mean having to mooch a ride to work and school for the kids all week. I'd hate to lose pressure (due to lack of oil in the pan) and spin a bearing or something equally as nasty. I should have stayed home this past weekend but wanted to shake her down, I hadn't locked the hubs since Quail season. OL' HANK 05-25-2004, 08:58 PM Ahh gotcha. Maybe we can get together another time after you get it fixed. :beer 2fastnaz 05-27-2004, 11:29 PM Will do guys I hate to miss this trip but......
