The blue push pins will be for unconfirmed ORV trails. This means that I, or somebody else recently, has not confirmed it's existance. The little jeep icon is for those I know exist.[edit: The Jeep icon has been changed to a Bronco for obvious reasons - TCK] The red flags were sites listed as ATV only.

I have a few leads on area trails, and a few trails listed. If anyone wants to take the time to follow up on them, start with the information in one of the "Possible Leads" links, and see what you can find. Also, please list any good wheeling spots that people can go check out in your area. Links to any writeups are also always appriciated.

Thanks Guys! Ultimately, I want to use whatever information is found to mark trail locations on one of the Maps (http://www.aikidokatech.com/Bronco/ORV/) being maintained by Adam (Aikidoka)

Here is a good list of writeups: http://www.offroaders.com/album/album.htm

Adam (aikidoka) just sent me a link to http://www.mpjai.com/index2.html?http%3A//www.mpjai.com/trails.php which has several listings.

The Central PA Offroad Park: It was located just outside of Altoona, PA. Unfortunately, last we heard is the owner, David Walls, was in the middle of a very ugly divorce. He wanted to keep the land for a 4x4 park, but his wife wanted it to sell to a company that was developing other land nearby. I have found two phone numbers that should be David's, and I will continue to call him until I have more info. There is a great writeup of how this place used to be here: http://www.core4x4.org/trips/102100/Altoona102100.shtml

Be sure and check out the writeups at http://www.core4x4.org/TrailRides.shtml to find mentions of many nearby trails.

Two new places called Trichlers and Nesquehoming, let me know if you can tell me where they are, or how to get to them. Info at http://www.xjfanatic.com/gallery.php UPDATE: Might be spelled Nesquehoning, PA.

Mt. Misery, check out the thread at http://www.the-jersey-devil.com/bbs/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=2420&page=0&view=expanded&sb=5&o=&fpart=1
Any additional info is appriciated.

Kingsdale, PA: http://www.ec4wda.org/events.asp?ID=368 (it is also mentioned at This Club's Site (http://hometown.aol.com/pinecrk4x4/myhomepage/personal.html) so I emailed that club's listed contact)
Kingsdale is located on the PA/MD line just north east of Frederick. so far, it looks to be a sand drag, and possible 4x4 race track.

Line Mountain: http://www.lm4w.org (I also emailed these guys, looks like another race track, but that could definitely be cool to check out)

Friday would not be a problem. However, as of now, I am scheduled to work that Saturday, and I would have a hard time getting out of it, unless we can find someone willing to work the saturday shift here as a part time hourly. I will have that Monday off though, so I could start driving west when I get off work on Saturday at 3:30. I just think that by the time I get there, everyone else will be ready to leave.

I will be sure and let you know, but as of now, I have to work. I am still working on it though.

FYI, a friend and I also have a project going to map the trails in the frederick watershed and see what is still not gated off. We have topo maps of the area that also show the fire trails. we just have to go record where there are, or are not gates.

But they have a truck in their image on the entry page. Well this is from their rules and regulations.

"3. Off Road Vehicle is any type of vehicle prohibited from being operated on a roadway by state law and any vehicle deemed off road by NJORVP’s insurer."

They also have Truck events scheduled.

what is painfully obvious is the lack of off road options in the great state of NY...i did a search recently and aside from some atv stuff, there really isn't much out there. i know long island is a little too crowded, but upstate i would have thought there was some wide open territory just waiting to be found. guess not. :brownbag

"3. Off Road Vehicle is any type of vehicle prohibited from being operated on a roadway by state law and any vehicle deemed off road by NJORVP’s insurer."

To me, that doesn's sound like any of us because almost all of our vehicles are legal to be driven on the street (well, almost legal, right kev?! with your what 7-9" left, depending on where they measure!) :histerica

I think what they considered trucks there are trailer queens and buggies, stuff like that. It seems as if all the truck events close the park for general riding the day they are scheduled so I don't think we'd be able to cruise down there with the Broncos and play on the tracks.

TCRIMSONK
04-29-2004, 05:11 PM
I don't know if their definition of ORV requires that you meet EVERY qualification to be an ORV, or ANY qualification.

Kallure
04-29-2004, 05:24 PM
I would clarify it with them before we put it on any map, just so we don't have newbies stumbling upon it and thinking they can go down there and then finding out they can't. :toothless

Well the "and any vehicle deemed offroad" by their insurer part that still leaves us the possibility. Although they could have just goofed on their wording. Maybe it is supposed to say "and deemed offroad..."

dont you mean 11"? :toothless (they count lift from tires ya know)
ive heard of it, and looked into it a while ago (mebbe a year or so) and all i came up with was that it was for quads/atvs, its expensive, and everyone and their freakin mom goes there cuz theres nowhere else to go, meaning its usually quite crowded.

Not yet. I usually start with a state's Department of Natural Resources site. Sometimes they will list Off-roading as a recreation in some of the parks. I've been sparadically following leads lately. Haven't had enough time to hunt stuff out. Send me some women and I'll be sure to get back to it. :imp Oh, so far the second source of trail locations has been clubs in a state that have their own forum.

It's the same you find in Paint. 0-255 in RGB and it also has the Hue, Lumination, and Saturation controls.

You want the new icon, go into Paint's color selection and calculate the bit depth that selection allows you. :toothless

You mean he'd actually take that thing on a trail with trees on the sides? :histerica I was thinking of icons for a map that only show one trail. Like, here's a creek crossing, here's a mud pit, here's some rocks to climb, or here is somebody using a logo like your off-road clubs chasing you down.

Yes, it does. You can access it off Long Run Rd. ( Long Run Trail is now gated thanks to some yahoos that tried to tear it up). Rt. 33 West, right on 612, left on Forest Road 72(Long Run).

1. Drive over Large Culvert into trail network. Currently blocked by large tree: N39” 29,724’ X W77” 28.524’

2. Nate’s Place: N39” 30.294’ X W77” 28.776’

3. Good Trail Access: N39” 29.606’ X W77” 28.495’

4. Abandoned Picinic Area / Trail network: N39” 29.086’ X W78” 28.023’

5. There’s no lable for this coordinate, possibly a trail head: N39” 29.400’ X W77” 28.392’

6. Logging Trail, might be blocked by tree: N39” 29.149’ X W77” 28.141’

It will be great when we finally get this map together. I gotta get a GPS Reciever for my Axim.

In the harrisburg area theres a place called tower road. went down once with some guys on FTW Pa chapter. nice place, kinda boring but fun.

also out in treverton theres supposed to be some badass wheelin. never been there but i heard there are some holes 4 feet deep.

BTW, i live 5 minutes from Centrallia and want to give a friendly warning, stay off the trails around there. the coal companies dont take kindly to tresspassers.

Don't worry about it, I'm really more concerned about the EFI351, and the E4OD. I was driving around on the bent TTB for a few months, it's probly the last one on the list that I'll worry about.

Basically the only thing that makes my bronco worth keeping is the fact that it's already passed MD inspection, so I can throw tags on it whenever I want... so long as it will still pass emissions.

Hey guys- 2 quick questions if I may.

1- Anyone been to Paragon Adventure? Its about 2 hours from me and wondering if its worth the drive or not.

2-Anyone know any places where you can pick up, ride until you feel like stopping and set up camp for the night? Ya know, deep in the woods backcountry stuff. We usually go to Shanendoah National Park in VA, but I'm pretty sure you can ride down there its only foot.

I should probably mention that I don't wheel my Bronco (its my DD for the moment and don't have the $$ to screw around, so I'll be wheeling my ATV. Thanks in advance.....outstanding thread by the way. Definitely gonna check out some of these places.

I just got an email about a place in PA called Michaux. Ever heard of it?

"As for Michaux, it is a State Forest up in PA, just west of Gettysburg. There are some legal ATV trails out there that look pretty fun. My buddy and I went out there in hopes of taking his new Jeep Rubicon on them, but there are gates across them with entrances only big enough for ATVs to squeeze through. There are signs there saying the ATVs have to be less than 700 lbs so that rules out the Jeep. We were disappointed, but I knew of some fun dirt roads around there from hiking there. We hit some of them, and stumbled across a few pretty good 4X4 trails. Are they legal? I don't know. It is on State land, and there were no signs saying not to drive there. On one of the trails, it was obvious that somebody had dug a few big holes to keep people from driving back there, but it was pretty easy to get around them (with the Jeep anyways - I don't think my Frontier would have made it).

But the other good trail that we found might actually be a real trail. It was nice and muddy, had some creek crossings, and was sorta marked. We never saw a sign saying what the name of the trail was, but there were spray painted yellow rectangles on the trees every 100 feet or so...."

For those in driving distance of Northern Delaware, there is a pretty decent size area for Off-Roading in my area. It's a big mud pit that is on State Park land. It appears to be either built specificly for Off Roading, or possibly a pit for dirt for construction. Either way there are no signs, and is very well known by 4 Wheelers in this area. I have been there several times, and it is pretty fun after a good rain. I've never heard of anyone getting told to leave or fined or anything, so I think it's safe. I've even driven right past a park ranger while driving in there and he didn't even give me a 2nd glance.
Mostly stockrigs can handle it if they have some good Mud Tires, and bigger rigs can take full advantage of the deeper mud holes and steeper inclines.

This area is several acres and is pretty fun for me, I would like to see if any of you out there in the are would like to come down there some weekend. I'd like to see some of the bigger Broncos take on the deeper pits and hills, as I currently can't.

Just drop me a PM if you are interested. I promise a good time to be had.
