View Full Version : Goin' Wheelin'!
peteyg 05-14-2004, 11:03 AM Me and a buddy are taking our Heeps to Calico tomrrow morning. I know, I know, it's both Heeps AND short notice, but hey, we only finalized it last night.
Come out and show up our Heeps! Wheeling is wheeling :beer
We're leaving Temecula bright and early at 6:30 AM, which should get us to the gas station at the Calicoo exit sometime between 8 and 8:30.
The plan is to go up Doran and come down Odessa.
Not for the faint of heart, or the scared of body damage. One locker at least is strongly recommended, and two are better. I took my full size wagoneer through here once on 32's so it can be done by a full-size rig. It just takes a little work.
If you want to go but don't know to get there, just ask and I'll email or post directions.
locopny 05-14-2004, 08:41 PM you can even bypass the lower doran if you dont have a locker.
or are escared of damage :wacko
if'n i wasnt workin it would be fun :beer
peteyg 05-17-2004, 11:55 AM Well, we wound up going to Stoddard Valley. Goood wheeling. We had a lot of fun. The Bronco made an excellent tow rig, and I even got to put it in 4WD. I won't post pics of my Jeep here, but if you want to see the fun, go to:

bnkrtstk 05-17-2004, 12:10 PM Post the pics, wheeling is wheeling. It's not like you're bragging how your Jeep is bigger and better than the Bronco. :thumbup
peteyg 05-19-2004, 04:02 PM Well, my Jeep CAN out wheel my Bronco, but that's mainly because I built it specifically for rock crawling, and have a LOT invested in it. If I put the same amount of work into the Bronco, It'll do pretty much the same thing, although there was a sidehill I did last weekend that would scare me in the Bronco, with it's higher COG...

I'm just not sure I would feel comfortable taking the Bronco on that hill. Hell, I wasn't comfortable taking my JEEP on that hill...When I called my buddy saying I didn't like it, he responded back: "Yeah, my wife is talking divorce right now!"...LOL :rockon
MyFullSize 05-19-2004, 11:49 PM I'm just not sure I would feel comfortable taking the Bronco on that hill. Hell, I wasn't comfortable taking my JEEP on that hill...When I called my buddy saying I didn't like it, he responded back: "Yeah, my wife is talking divorce right now!"...LOL :rockon
Ya pu$$y! :toothless
peteyg 05-20-2004, 12:51 AM Yeah, yeah, yeah...call me a pu$$y all you want... :goodfinge
I've been on my lid before (and will be again someday, I'm sure). When I don't like something, I'll say it. I've been doing this long enough to not care whether someone else thinks I'm wussing out on something. I used to play the peer pressure game...many (many) broken parts later, I learned to trust my instincts :toothless
Any time you want to go wheeling, though, let me know :thumbup A bunch of us Jeep types are going to Los Coyotes for Memorial Day. I'll be there Saturday all day. yell for Pete on CB channel 5.
Bronkzilla 05-20-2004, 01:56 AM got anymore pics..
btw.. i hate those off camber hills..
peteyg 05-20-2004, 03:57 AM ok, You asked for it! :beer
Warning! These are pictures of JEEPS :goodfinge
When I start wheeling the Bronco, then I'll take pictures of it, but right now the Bronco is the tow rig. So here we go...
This is my toy:

It was an absolutely beautiful day there, and the views from the top of the hill were pretty cool:

And here is a perfect example of why BFG MT's and rocks don't mix:

And here is the beginning of our new trail:

There aren't any more pics of the trail because my buddy pretzled his front driveshaft right after that last pic was taken. The rest of it was recovery. We're going back next fall to build that trail right. Imagine a whole series of waterfalls that look like this (that's me trying and failing to climb the last waterfall on the Wrecking Ball trail at Johnson Valley):
