On a 78-79 Dana 44 is there a way to swap in the ttb lower coil mounts instead of the std. 78 version?

WHy would you want to do that. It's going to be much easier to just use the 78 stuff? I think it would take some major grinding and welding skills to accomplish the swap...

yeah why?more hassle than its worth

the 78 uses 2 7/16th bolts or something like that to hold the lower bucket in. the ttb uses one big stud that comes up from the beam

Question for a buddy.....Can you use the TTB coils on a 78-79 D44 bucket/bracket?

I don't think you can. The last coil at the bottom of the coils on the TTB have a tighter diameter than the 78-79. I think those coils have the same diameter all the way through the coil. Anyone know for sure?

yes you can

yes you can
Top or bottom ... the two coils are swappable at the top end but differ too much at the bottom. I'm using 78 coils/81 upper buckets/76 f-150 axle but then i just scrapped the ttb coils without trying cause they were much too short.

On a 78-79 Dana 44 is there a way to swap in the ttb lower coil mounts instead of the std. 78 version? you can fill in the rear hole then drill and tap the arm.then you can grind any angle you like into the mounts to keep the coils from bowing out. there's a few coils outs there with a softer spring rate that have the pigtail end.

I always thought that the TTB coil was somewhere about 2 Inches wider than the 78.

Do you know anyone that did that and has a webpage?

My first Idea was to buy http://broncograveyard.com/products/fabritech/fabarmfeature.html those Radius arms.
They come with that tiny Tapered block.
Use the Block to adapt the TTB coil mount (that small circular pos) to those blocks

What do you guys say?

i'm planning to mount the TTB coils onto my solid D44. instead of mounting 78/79 upper coil mounts forward one inch like most people have done, i'm going to reuse my TTB upper coil mount and leave it where it is.
on the lower coil mount i'm just going to weld up a new bracket with a large grade 8 bolt, which will be aligned to the upper ball joint like how its like on the TTB setup. this way the axle should be in the right location and i get to weld alot :)

if i could mount the coils farther out to the sides, would this make the bronco corner better? coils would look like this //------\\

I did it on solid dana 60 but I moved the axle 2inch forward

both dave and I are running ttb coils with the 79 coil buckets, top and botom.. It makes using the lower retaining ring a litle tough, but it does work. nothing a BFH doesn't fix. Ultimately i will either use the stock ttb lower or make a different retainer made of 1" square tube for a spacerwith a 1/4 x 1 flat piece to act as the retainer, but that remains to be done.
so YES YOU CAN

It was done on my '92 F150. I didn't do the swap but a plate was welded over the '79 coil bucket and the coil retainer from the TTB was attached to it. It allowed my to gain about 1" with my 6" coils that I just reused to keep costs down.

Sorry I don't have a link, but it's on my Superford account site. Search under "Harvey Wong"

How about one of theese spacers? http://www.superford.org/registry/vehicles/users/33/139/DCP_0697.JPG

That looks flimsy. Instead of that you could weld some box tube on the axle leaving a 1" gap over the radius arms.and weld a nut in there for more thread bite.

LOL that's in wrong!
The part the coil is sitting on top of, acutally goes inside the coil to Hold it down, Right now the only thing holding that coil down is th weight of the truck
