You pansy asses...part of camping and being one with nature is stinkin'! Why not just bring out a $400K mobile bus camper thingie with a microwave, plasma TV, and PS2? Spend some time in the military...we will teach you how to "rough it"... ;)

Okay I will admit that after a full day of muddin' with motherearth caked up to your buttcrack and your hair looking like ya got dreads...a nice hot shower would be nice!

It's also nice for hosing the mud out of the rad,or washing the crap off something you have to trailfix.

Bet it's a good way too get engine temp down quicker...

Davids78Bronco
03-03-2003, 03:02 AM
lol @ Dave...why would you want to try that, when you NEED the engine temp to heat the shower? ;)

SuperDave
03-03-2003, 05:21 AM
say you're crawling along really slow on a trail in the dead of summer. Your little fan or thin red just isn't cutting it.

You come onto a creek/puddle/ any water.
With the shower you could use the body of water as a really BIG rad to disipate heat.
Just my 2¢

Of course it doesnt help that my parents own one of those 400K(not even close!) mobile bus camper thingies.

I am a big camper and I dont usually shower because I dont have a camper, but that mod would not only be cool but like 2bit said ti would be cool for a lot of other things too!
Warm water is way better than cold when you get wet!

Anyone know how I can modify that to fit on my HOG!
In Sturgis warm showers are like GOLD!

When we went in 2000 we took some solar showers and they kicked ass, but this looks way cooler!
I did find one at the Outdoor store that was self heating, had an extended shower head on hard rod. The only thing it didn't have was soap, shampoo and curtain... but it was around $175.00 and too big to fit on the bike, even with the trailer.

What ever happend to the bar of soap in a lake idea? When I'm camping I take a dip in the lake every morning. The cold water washes away the hang over too!

first thing you gotta do is get one with a nice big radiator, like a vrod. once you do that, you gotta cut the shit out of it so you can find a place to cram a little heat exchanger...and by then itll be a cold day in hell so hot water will be the last thing on your mind.

Not sure I like the idea of runnin my rad fluid through a home built abs tube. I do like the shower idea though. I think I would just get a 12 volt pump and pump the water through a coil of copper tube that sits near the campfire. Do you guys think that you need the rad fluid to heat the copper? Couldn't you just make a coil of copper pipe and mount it on the underside of the hood so when the engine compartment gets real hot, the water heats to the engine compartment temp? Or how about sitting it beside the exhaust manifold area? Wouldn't that get it hot enough?

Whatdya think? Lets figure out an easier heat exchange system.

The coolant and shower water are separated, by the coiled tubing in the heat exchanger. Unless your coiled tubing has holes in it, you're not going to get coolant in the shower water. Whether the heat exchanger is ABS or copper tubing, it's still built the same. Coiling the copper tubing in the campfire can work... but your pump can't be too high of pressure, or you won't get any hot water at all

Nobody's getting any younger and a hot shower sure refreshes the old creakin' bones after a hard day on the trails. Helps you sleep better too.

David

did you consider the tailgate tent idea to get you off the ground ?

Nobs

great post. It's got my mind a spinnin' and thinking about Pepe's idea for the need for a shower stall/curtain.

David.. how far are you along on this project... just wondering if anyone on this board has done it...

I have my "showerhead" built and ready to go, and the heat exchanger is nearly finished. However, I'm going to re-do the HE, because my current one is entirely too large - 1/2" copper tubing soldered to fit inside a length of 4" ABS. Instead, I'm going to get a 20-24" length of 3" copper pipe, and 3/8" soft copper tubing, coiled inside. This will get mounted to the firewall, above the rear of the engine... or, to the fender, most likely close to the air tank

I still need the pump, hoses, "Y"-fittings, and other parts needed to finish this. Since it's taken me this long to get this far, I imagine it'll take me just as long to finish it :brownbag

Mark is using the R and M specialties kit out of Windsor Ca. nice kit, but $$$$.

You can get a self priming pump for an RV for about 80 bucks. i am using a refrigerant coil I bought for like 50 bucks. Then all I need is wiring and plumbing and its done.

i got the idea from the main page on broncodriver.com. A guy named marlon did a nice write up. Go look for it there, it cant be linked

Can't watch that show

To me, it's part of what's wrong with television. Might well be the original reality TV show, showing North Americans at their worst.
