View Full Version : MOAB, Finally
BoulderBronco 05-11-2003, 04:16 PM I am finally going to Moab tomorrow. I have been trying to get there for months but something always came up. I havn't been there in almost two years so am very excited. I'll have pics in a few days. Maybe some movie clips on Superford as well.
Dustin 05-12-2003, 12:05 AM awsome dude....you will love it thats for sure! cant wait to see the pics

BoulderBronco 05-14-2003, 10:50 PM Well I made it. Had a blast even though I only had a little more than a day. I have put some pics and videos on my superford page so check them out. I will get a pic or two here when I get the time. I'll give more details too but have to go.

Bronkzilla 05-16-2003, 03:49 PM i am the king of all that is lazy!!!!!
locopny 05-16-2003, 03:57 PM Better that than FLAT TIRES :D
BoulderBronco 05-17-2003, 03:19 PM Technically Lions Back is still open but they don't allow just anyone up. Not to say I'm the man (which I am)   They will not allow you to do it if you never have before. There is also a warning sign at the beginning along with a locked chain so you need to pay to get the key. It used to be $5 for the main gate now it's $10 for both. If you appear nervous he said he will immediatly say no. The guy said he turns many people away because he can tell they are nervous or not up to the challenge. You have done it right Dustin? Have any of you other guys done it before? It really gets the adrenaline going the first time you do it.
Dustin 05-17-2003, 04:18 PM no I have never gone up...Ive only been to moab once and that was last year. we walked back there and checked it out and hiked up to the four runner.
I think it would be cool to run up it
dsotmoon 05-17-2003, 04:27 PM damn, did the guy in the 4runner live?
Dustin 05-17-2003, 07:06 PM I beleive so....I have seen the video on the net somewhere and its hard to beleive he did
locopny 05-17-2003, 07:26 PM believe the vid is on POR somewhere. :???:

maybe this will work... no video only a sequence of photos
Dustin 05-17-2003, 07:27 PM yeah i think thats where i sa it now.
BoulderBronco 05-17-2003, 08:00 PM Yes he did live but he was not happy. The man a the gate said it was some kids that went up. They were drunk no less. Stupid. The passenger got out partway up and guided the kid into a crevice in the middle that knowone in their right mind (which they obviously weren't) would send someone. You are suposed to straddle the crevice. The kids passenger front end dropped and the drivers side/front end then rolled over. Needless to say and the 4Runner proceeded to roll backwards head over heals down the side. Must have been a hell of a ride.
TTBlows 05-23-2003, 01:14 PM Sweet dude. I didn't even see this post 'til now since I seem to never check this forum anymore.
What trail(s) did you run besides Lions Back?
BoulderBronco 05-24-2003, 06:17 PM I did Fins 'N Things and Hells Revenge :flipoff:  :flipoff:
I replied to the moab post on Offroad.com with some details. Check it out. I was not happy!!!

Dustin 05-24-2003, 09:09 PM what obstical are you refuring to on hells revenge? that trail was cool, and the tight section near the end is pretty cool too
BoulderBronco 05-25-2003, 03:40 PM Yeah that tight section is cool. The part I am referring to is right before you get to the top of the little hill to start driving out and to the tight section. I have a few pics but they are hard copy so I need to find a scanner. It is the toughest part on Hells Revenge and I believe that is what the obsticle is called. It is like two giant steps and severly off camber to the right. Hopefully I can get you some pics of that soon.
Dustin 05-25-2003, 05:25 PM i think i know what your talking about but its been along time since ive been there and cant quite picture it.

Dustin, when we were there last it was covered in sand and pretty slick at the bottom. Everyone walked their rear ends all over before getting onto it. But still not hard once you're on it.
BoulderBronco 05-28-2003, 10:31 PM Cake walk!!! No way. I have tried it three times and not made it. All three times were unlocked. I was in danger of rolling off it every time too. I am quite good and wheeling but had real trouble with this one. I probably could have done it eventually but thought to myself, "It's not worth rolling. You guys both have the SAS so I bet that helps you out. Even once I get up a little ways the tires just start spinning and I start bouncing which we no is no good. I am planning on going again in a month or so. I would love for you guys to join me to show me up.
Dustin 05-29-2003, 12:44 AM well I did it with the ttb before!! havent been there since he swap. I am locked front and rear and just walked right up it. I suppose if you didnt have the front locked then it may be harder. Only thing I did was drag ass at the bottom. you defently have to pick the right line tho otherwise it can get real tippy
TTBlows 05-29-2003, 12:29 PM I would love for you guys to join me to show me up.
We're going this weekend!! the 31st and 1st. You're welcome to come. This will definitely be my last Moab trip until fall, too hot and the high country is starting to open up!
Dustin 05-29-2003, 02:21 PM only if I lived closer....make it out in october and I will show you how its done
BoulderBronco 05-31-2003, 03:37 PM Wish I could go Keith. I probably could have if I had a few more days notice. No worries though. I got your email today so it's a bit late to go now. Hope you have fun. It's going to be real hot I heard. I agree with not going there until fall. I have been exploring some roads around here and the snow is starting to melt. I went up Tomboy Road last weekend and made it all the way to town. Had to barrel through some snow drifts and over a rockslide with a 2000 ft. drop on my right but it was fun. I was the first one up there this spring.
Rick3373 06-22-2003, 07:42 PM The obsticle in the photo is Tip Over Challenge. It's all about taking the right line. Air way down & just give enough throttle to move. If you start spinning a tire you probably won't make it. It isn't necessary to be locked, but it helps.
